It was interesting to me, as an English speaker, to see the differences and similarities between some words in Filipino. It is probably of niche usage but fairly pleasant.

The illustrations are wonderfully done and how the words they have in the book are of common objects that might make it easier to learn. I would buy this book to use in my toddler classroom as a way of introducing other languages.

Sadly, I was disappointed with this book. I felt it needed a bit more colour and better illustrations sorry. Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a great book for learning basic words in Tagalog. For each letter, the capital and small version are given. The word is accompanied by a fun and colorful drawing. Both the English and Filipino word for the drawing is given.

I found this book to be bright and colorful with Tagalog words that are useful and easy to remember. Since my grandchildren and part Filipino, I am anxious to learn words in Tagalog as they are doing so.

I've been looking for books from Filipino authors and I was thrilled to see this one coming out! The colourful, fun illustrations give this book a lot of life.

I have two main criticisms. Firstly, the title sounded clunky to me; ABCs would be more standard than ABC, I think. Secondly, I understand that to choose words simple enough for young children, you may want to go with English loan words, but too many are used. Jam, zoo, zebra, etc. are all words that you can find in an English ABCs book. I would have liked to have seen fewer English loan words and more Tagalog.

I'm super excited for this book! Growing up I had never seen any kid of kids book that went over the Filipino language, Tagalog, and I was super excited to share this with my children. Growing up I was never interested in anything about my own culture and I regret that, so anything to help bridge the gap for my old children is a big win. This book was a simple word book with great illustrations and it included the English word and the word in Tagalog. My only suggestion is a better format for digital books (which is how I received this book) and it was somewhat distorted and jumbled up. But aside from figuring out what words went to what, I really enjoyed this and my kids loved seeing the similarities and differences between English and Tagalog. I would definitely recommend this book! I think this is a great resource!

I love when things are drawn to look like their first letter, like the letter C that is decorated to look like a cookie, or the letter Z that looks like a zebra. The alphabet at the beginning of this book is ridiculously cute, and I learned Filipino words as I read through it, so it is very informative. It's always interesting to see which words overlap in different languages. For example: jacket, jam, jelly, and jeep are all the same in Filipino and English.

I really like the idea of this book, incorporating both English and Filipino. The pictures are bright and colorful. However, like many alphabet books, My Filipino ABC falls into the trap of having words based off of letters with no story component. My young co-reviewer took one look at the first page and asked if there was no story to the book. Before we were half-way through, I was asked not to read it out loud anymore.

This a short but good book. It allows the child to learn a new language. It has the Filipino word and the English word. It has a picture under the words so the child can see the object as well. Fun book.

I enjoyed the illustrations, but I expected this to be more of a book that you can read during story time than a book with a letter for each page, and a few words that start with that letter (and illustrations to go with them) around it. If you’re looking for a visual dictionary to introduce your child to Tagalog, I’d definitely recommend this book. If you’re looking for a book to read during story time, this probably isn’t quite right.

Great bilingual book for people from the Philippines, who maybe want to teach their children English too, or vice versa.

Easy to read book with items beginning with each letter of the alphabet, with colourful illustrations too

My Filipino ABC is a children's ABC picture book with Tagalog word examples for each letter of the alphabet (like A is for apple in English). This book is especially perfect for young Filipino children learning how to read or for bilingual families outside of the Philippines. My coworker is Filipino and he said a book like that would be a good gift to give to his friends who have young children growing up here in the United States. It's also good for children who are like how I was when I was a kid and wanted to get hands on any book that has foreign languages in it. This bold, bright and colourful ABC picture book is a fab way to introduce young children to some basic wording of the Filipino language.

It is full of lovely illustrated pictures of common objects which begin with the focus alphabet letter of that page. Underneath the illustration is a the Filipino word and below that the English version, associated with that object.

I think this book would be a nice addition for introducing a new language to young children. It has short, simple common words within its pages, that children can associate with the accompanying illustration, making them easy to learn.

I don’t personally know Filipino myself but found the words easy to pronounce that are in this book and as an early year’s educator, these would be easy to communicate and teach to the little people I teach and can be picked up quickly.

As a Filipina who moved to the US from the Philippines when I was 5 years old, this book has me remembering certain words. Since my parents speak Tagalog and I only understand it and was never taught to speak it, I don't know many spellings and this book not only provides the spelling with the pronunciation but it also has a colorful illustration of each word. Some words are in English which is okay but I would have preferred the whole book to be in Tagalog. Looking forward to showing the book to my 6 year old daughter so she can have more exposure to the Filipino culture.

My Filipino ABC is a brightly and adorably illustrated book for children to learn their basic Tagalog words. Each page features three to four words that start or include a particular letter with illustrations of each word that I find inherently Filipino in terms of style and feel, so it captures that Filipino aesthetic you would find in the Philippines itself, so I find this a great resource that can help connect children who live abroad with those norms.

As for the selection of words featured in the book, I have mixed feelings. A wonderful surprise was the inclusion of the letters "ñ" and "ng" which are definitely essential sounds and letters to learn Tagalog. However, I found many words included such as football, quilt, all the J words such as jacket, jam and jelly etc were all counterproductive additions since they are merely English loan words spelt and pronounced exactly like their English counterparts. Those words could have been easily replaced with a more Tagalog alternative. Overall, this book is lovely but would be even better if adjustments to a more Tagalog word selection were made as expressed in my latter point.
