Book #9 in the Gina Harte series. Each book can be read as a stand alone but there are some over arcing plot lines that could be confusing if you've not read the first few books. Detective Harte steps into the investigation of a missing teenager when a group of friends camp over night only to wake to one girl missing. As she digs for clues, Det Harte will discover a group of students who routinely make life miserable for the loners in the school. Did they drive this young woman to disappear? What really happened?

I enjoyed this detective mystery book. I had never read a book in this series before, so I was a little confused about the references to things that had happened before this book takes place, but it didn't take away from the overall plot of the book. I really liked the main detective Gina and the short chapters kept me turning the pages. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes detective murder crime-solving books. I would definitely read more from this author. I received a free copy of this book from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

This is another great read from Carla Kovach. Her Gina Harte series always hits the mark when you want to get lost in a murder mystery thriller. The fact that the victims here are so young enrages the entire team of detectives and really pushes them to bring the perpetrator to justice. I loved the flashbacks which gradually tempted and tormented me with the reasons behind the killer's actions. As always I read the book in one sitting, I only start a Carla Kovach now when I don't have an early start the next day.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book

As usual excellent continuation of the Gina Harte series. Along with Michael Wood's DCI Darke series this IMO is one of the best police procedural series out there. The plot intertwined with Gina's personal life is very well handled and the main plot moves along with plenty of twists and turns.
Highly recommended series but definitely start from the beginning!

A story about bullying and its nefarious results. A good plot and story, after maybe half of it, become fast-paced and reaches a good ending. Good entertainment.
I thank Ms. Kovach, her publisher, and NetGalley for the copy of this book.

One Left Behind is yet another brilliant book in the Gina Harte series by Carla Kovach. This series started off with a great book and it just keeps getting better. This is the 9th book in the series and Gina has come a long way since The Next Girl. I love that Gina is unlike any other female detective, middle-aged and a dark secret that can destroy her. Wow! Having that hanging over your hear day in and day out must be taxing but Gina ever the professional compartmentalizes so well! This book sees her come head on with thus secret and the potential it has to completely destroy life as she knows it.
The main plot of this book is gripping and unique. The characters especially the teenagers were so very twisted. And that fabulous twist in the end!! I did not see that coming! I knew teenagers can be mean but malicious ness to this extent? No thank you I'm so glad I'm past that phase!! While the main plot was great I was also high-key interested in what Gina has to bear with owing to her dark and twisted truth. In the end I think this was a GREAT book in the series. I hope there's more!!

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Carla Kovach for this arc!

This was a great mystery story. While the book starts slow, it builds up to a nice pace story. I found the plot to be engaging and enjoyed reading the story. There were several twists that kept the plot engaging. It was a good book!

The plot on this one grabbed me straight away. Having a teenager myself it talked to me . This was a dark book that really had me turning the pages . The plot was realistic and could have really happened.

Another great Gina Harte book that kept me completely engrossed in its plot lines. I loved how the author's writing was so welcoming where though the subplots were dark but the main characters were comfortable to read about after 8 books. A good read

"Would their secrets cost them their lives?"

The ninth book in the Detective Gina Harte series opens with the discovery of the body of a sixteen-year-old girl the morning after a party in the woods with her friends. Sure the teenagers are hiding something, Gina and her team try to discover what really happened that night. But then a second teenager is murdered and it looks like each of them are in the killer’s sights. But why? And can they stop them before anyone else ends up dead?

Wow. Just, wow. Carla Kovach has reminded me why this is one of my favourite crime series and delivered the best installment yet. Exquisitely written, perfectly plotted and filled with flawed and complex characters, it sizzles with tension, mystery and foreboding from the start. Then, with one flawlessly executed, blindsiding twist, she took my breath away. I’m still shook. This is how it’s done, ladies and gentleman.

There are an array of suspects and intriguing subplots, including a mysterious person threatening to expose a dark secret from Gina’s past that could destroy her whole life. Who could possibly know? And can she unveil them before it’s too late? I enjoyed watching Gina battle what is probably one of her most terrifying personal situations while investigating the case. I love how she always rises to whatever challenge is in front of her, giving her all to find a killer no matter the other things she is dealing with.

Fast-paced, intricately woven and irresistible, this is an easy five-stars from me. I couldn’t put this down and devoured it in one sitting, literally reading through the night. A spectacular thriller that I highly recommend.

I was concerned about reading this since it is book 9 and I had not quite read all the other 8 books just yet. But the set-up was there and I felt prepared diving in! Great crime thriller, very well written.

Having only read a couple of the previous books in this series I was unsure what to expect, in all honesty I think this is definitely a series that you need to read in order!

In the newest installment the author picks up straight from Book 8, straight into the action. Thankfully the story doesn't dwell too much on the previous plot so I didnt have to worry about trying to work it all out.

Alot of Gina Hartes past is brought up within this story and it feels like alot of questions about her private life are answered, I'd understand more if I'd have read the whole series!

All in all a good read but I'm definitely going to ho back and read the series from the start and will come back and review again

Huge thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

One Left Behind is the 9th book in the Det Gina Harte series and a good time of year to read this one! Five teenagers go into the woods to camp and drink, only 4 come out alive… Gina is called to investigate… again as is the norm in this series, there are many possible suspects, numerous twists and turns and an ending you will not expect… I just love this series and Kovach can do no wrong in my eyes, fantastic, she delivers the perfect recipe of a thrilling read.

I’ve read several of the books in this series, so I thought I knew what to expect in this one (book #9). I was partially right about some of it, totally wrong in my expectations in other ways.
I like how the author picks right up where the action left off from the previous book, but also doesn’t dwell too much on detailing past plot points. There are enough references that somebody new to the series wouldn’t be too lost. Usually.
In this case, however, there are some things from Gina’s past that make reappearances and take more of a central focus. In fact, pretty much most of Gina’s personal life is wrapped up in these points in this book.
In some ways, it felt a little bit long in the tooth, because the event in question has been examined at length in past books. And Gina is still dealing with it.
I think I understand the reasons that the author brought it back into focus in the particular manner, because there were similarities with the police case Gina was working on. The things that kept occurring made for blurred lines between professional and personal, and caused Gina to steer her investigation in several directions.
The case itself was okay. I don’t know if it was because teenagers were the main characters or if the story just didn’t grab me, but I didn’t feel the pop that I have felt from past cases with Gina.
Maybe because teenagers always seem to have so many secrets from adults to begin with, it was difficult to understand and get behind the lies and secrets from this group? I’m not sure. Maybe it would have been better if they were adults.
I did like how the characters were human. For example, PC Kapoor still has scars from the last story, but is working through them, and the visual scars are lasting longer than the mental ones (supposedly). There is great continuity to be found in these characters and their work.
All in all, I suppose this a good entry in the series, but not the best of stories. I’ll still look forward to the next outing by Gina Harte, though, because I want to see where her relationship goes with her daughter, and I have become invested in the characters.
