I like Gina as a detective. She seems real and has a past that is catching up to her, even more so in this book with mysterious messages and texts threatening her. So, not only does she have to deal with that, there are partying teens that are ending up dead and a plethora of suspects, some of them with prior records, to wean down to find the killer. It is woven well together and there is a nice twist to the crime that caught me totally by surprise. It is a fast read and kept me entertained and wrapped up nicely.

This is a good series that I have now been able to read a couple books of. They can be read as standalones but I think the whole series would be good because I like Gina Harte.

Book 9!! Hold on to your seat.....5 go camping and only 4 come back. What a great thriller to read on the beach...lagged in a few spots for me but really enjoyed it.

Another 5 🌟 thriller in this fantastic series.

I was reading into the early hours as I couldn't put it down.

Full of twists and turns to keep you guessing right to the end.

Can't wait to read the next one.

#OneLeftBehind #NetGalley Having just read Detective Gina Harte Book 8, it was great to go straight into book 9 and keep up the momentum!! As with all these books, they can be read as a standalone but you will enjoy them more if you read in order and get to know the history of the main characters. Like al the others, this is well written, with plenty of action and lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing. I like the fact that running alongside "the crime", there is the more personal story of Gina and her relationship with her daughter and Briggs. My only disappointment is that I can't move straight on to book 10 in the series! A very well deserved 5 stars

Five teenagers have a drunken camp out but only four go home. Gina Harte is back with her team to find out who murdered Leah.
One of Leah’s friends is receiving sinister messages and it seems the teens know more than they could be letting on. Gina and Briggs just seem to be going in circles with their attraction but with someone threatening to bring them both down will the truth come out!
As always another fantastic read in this series. Gina is still my total crush as she is such a fiery woman and I adore reading about her. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is book #9 of the DI Gina Harte series. Whilst it is part of a series it can easily be read as a standalone book, but I would recommend reading the books in series order for better understanding of the characters back stories. There is a lot going on for Gina when she's called to investigate the death of a teenage girl found in the woods. She's one of a group of friends camping out and whilst the friends claim not to have heard or seen anything it's obvious there is more going on than first seems. Gina is also having to deal with her own personal problems when both her and her on/off lover (and boss!) Briggs receive anonymous text messages.

All of Gina's team are back working on the case with her. I love Gina's character and think she has a great working relationship with them all. She's such a strong character but it was quite sad to see the cracks starting to show as a result of things happening in her personal life. It must have been so difficult for her to keep everything in check and I found myself willing her to hold it all together. I've loved her relationship with Briggs for so long now and I'm still hoping that they can at some point be a proper couple, as it's just what Gina needs!

The murder storyline is gripping and the author does a fabulous job of keeping you guessing as to where it's all going. With other storylines running alongside, you know everything will eventually link up together, but I had no idea how! There were plenty of red herrings and we were taken down dead ends giving us lots of characters to suspect before the big reveal happened. The story is deliciously dark and dangerous with enough creepiness to send shivers down your spine!

Nine books into this series and each one is better than the last. I can't wait for the next book to carry on Gina's story! Would definitely recommend not just this book but the whole series.

I have to confess I do hungrily stalk netgalley hoping for the new Carla Kovach and every time it is like putting on a comfy pair of slippers! I know and love the leads - especially Gina and love interest Brooks!! This was just as exciting as previous - a girl is found murdered after camping with friends! As with all Kovach novels there is always a couple of red herrings - and a couple of twists thrown in too. I do love the back story that runs through all of the Gina Harte series - and hope that this one was setting the scene for some more stuff involving scum bag Terry!! Loved it!

I really enjoyed the ninth book in the Gina Harte series. There's a bit of everything going on here! Tension, an interesting plot, troubled teens and the dark side of social media. Good characterisation and enough twists to keep you interested. Another winner for the author and I would recommend the read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Oh my…this one was a great read!!! I was pumped when I got approve for this ARC as I was really intrigued when I read the synopsis! A teen is found dead in the woods, and none of her friends are talking. Who killed her? Was it someone she knew, or a random creepo who lived in the area nearby? Soooo many sketchy people. Sooo many secrets needing to be revealed. I didn’t know where this tale would go! There were a ton of twists, a surprising ending, and the satisfaction of all the puzzle pieces falling into place! This was a GREAT novel and I am really excited that I now had a chance to read a Carla Kovach book! It was so easy to get into this thriller and I definitely would say it got me out of my thriller reading slump! Pick this one up when it gets publishing July 15!!! Thank you to netgalley and bookouture for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This is my first read by Carla Kovach, but it won’t be my last! Yes, it is Book 9 in the Detective Gina Harte series, but that did not impact my enjoyment. Well developed characters drive a twisted tale of hard partying teens that ends in murder. Who is targeting the teens? The random truck driver, the neighborhood voyeur or is it someone in the teens clique? A fast read with an ending you won’t see coming! Check out the series! I know I will!

I just loved the thrill in this book, the writing was good, the mystery was good. It was a felt good read

Two mysteries going on. One is a dead teenager. They were with a bunch of other teens and no one is telling the truth. The second is a drama in Harte's own life. Does someone know her secret? Fast paced and enjoyable

Wow – I absolutely tore through this book! I found it heart-racingly gripping and exceptionally hard to put down. There’s a taut mystery and a tense sub-plot, both of which had me hooked. They felt so believable, and so scary. The book shows how keeping secrets can spiral out of control. The frightening effects of social media were vividly conveyed, too. I loved the sense of urgency and the realistic impression of the pressure the police team were under. In short, one long adrenaline rush. Loved it!

Six friends hanging out in the woods. Drinking partying till they cannot stand any longer. Then they decide to start daring each other . Well we know how that turns out, something is going to happen. Maybe not at this party but the next? Well that is what did happen someone is murdered and just left in the woods. Who could have done this everyone is a suspect. Leah loved partying with her friends Oscar, Jordan, Anthony, Naomi, Elsa and sometimes Cao. There is a lot going on in this mystery and DI Gina Harte and crew must figure it out besides wondering who is sending her threatening text messages about the death of her abusive ex-husband.
These friends are not helping Gina in finding Leah's killer. There is a big cover up and no one is talking but why. To make matters worse a second teen is murdered and the rest are getting threatening texts saying they are next.
Carla Kovach writes a gripping tale of mystery, love, hate and revenge. This was a real page turner and kept me going until the very last page.
It was dark, being shoved into a rabbit hole of deception and murder. DI Harte and crew found themselves hitting a wall at every corner. To many suspects not enough hard evidence. This was book nine in the series. It would have helped me if I were able to read the previous books so I really understood Gina's backstory her husband's abuse and how she and Briggs came together. With that being said I did enjoy it, Couldn't put it down and would probably go back and read Ms. Kovach's books in this series. Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for granting my request to read this ARC. I hope to be able to read more.

I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley and this is my honest review.

I’ve read the first book in this series but none of the others in between, it definitely helped to have some knowledge of the background of the main character but I think it could be read as a stand-alone as the main focus of the book is on the mysterious death of the teenager.

I really enjoyed this book, I liked the character of Sandy, you can’t help but feel the desperation in her situation but she has a strength that’s admirable. The book certainly kept me guessing and I really didn’t expect the ending, it hadn’t crossed my mind once and that for me is always a great crime book when I’m taken by surprise but it’s also believable and not forced. This has definitely made me want to go back and read the other books in the series now and see what I’ve missed!

I would give this 3 stars, it was the first I’ve read of the author’s and it was good. At times I felt like the story was a little all over the place with Detective Gina Harte having her own story happening alongside the case she’s investigating. Teens having parties in the woods that leads to the murder of one of them and trying to find out who the murderer is. I think I would’ve preferred if it just stuck to that story line but when the detective is receiving threatening messages of her own it brought in a secondary storyline that felt rushed at the end. Like it wrapped up all too easily within the last chapters. It was a decent read but at times felt somewhat slow. Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy in return for an honest review.

This book surprised me!
Although I haven't read the previous 8 books in this series, I was able to enjoy the book. I was up late night reading as this book was absolutely unputdownable!

I couldn't have predicted the antagonist in a 100 years. Such clever writing on the author's part! Can't wait to read more books by her.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A very strong 4 stars for this one.

Ah teenagers and their secrets! We’ve all been there but I don’t recall ever thinking my parents would “kill me” over some of the mischief I got into.

A fun night of drinking and carousing turns deadly for a group of 16-17 year olds during (I’m assuming) their summer break from school. Five friends camp in a little area of woodland, surrounded by housing, overnight. In the morning one of them is found dead. DI Gina Harte and her team swing into action. The stories given by the four remaining friends all sound suspiciously similar. Gina is sure they are hiding something. Also of interest are the man who runs a garage/take away shop nearby, a trucker who parked up overnight at the garage and a local man who has previous form for voyeurism.

Everyone is put under a microscope but nothing is sticking. The next day another of the teens in found dead after a fall down some mossy steps near a creek in the woods. A half shoe print on his back indicates he may have had help with his descent! Despite Gina’s best efforts the kids are sticking to their story - they had a bit to drink and, ok, they shared a joint. That’s it! But Gina knows there is much more to the story yet.

At the same time she, and her secret love interest DCI Chris Briggs, are getting threatening messages about the death of Gina’s long dead abusive husband, Terry. Someone claims to know what really happened on the night he died. Gina is petrified the truth will come out and her life and the job she loves will be over. Briggs is the only person whom Gina has confided in.

The plot suddenly gets much, much murkier and all bets are off regarding what really happened. This story was excellently plotted with little bits of clues being slowly dribbled out but even then I was unable to crack it! The story also addresses bullying and how even seemingly harmless fun can have terrible consequences. That and petty jealousies can blow things out of proportion. When you’re 16 everything is high drama and the parents struggled to realise that, instead seeing things through more adult eyes. You never know how people are going to react. The kids had a pact of silence which only worked against them in the wash up. The ending was quite shocking and unexpected.

I’m glad to see DI Gina Harte is back. I’ve been reading the author’s new series but I do prefer this one as it is a bit darker and more realistic. I received a free copy of this book from Netgalley and am providing this review voluntarily.
