As a cat lover I was drawn in by the cover page, but unfortunately that wasn't enough for me to finish this book. I could not click with the writing style. When it comes to romance, dual POVs in first person POV is simply the best. Third person POV feels distant and leaves the author telling a lot more than showing.

Simple, sweet romance. 2nd in a series. A little repetitive, but readable and enjoyable. I'll read more by Kate McMurray.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for a free ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review,

This novel has a great cover, title, and premise. The problem is that this novel falls flat. Compared to other romance novels from this same publisher, this novel does not hold my attention at all. Nothing genuinely interested me and I hated the concept of the sibling conflict.

I hope to read more from this publisher but unfortunately I won't be continuing this series/reading more by this author.

Thanks to SOURCEBOOKS Casablanca and Netgalley for providing an ARC copy.

The first 30 % was promising and I really enjoyed it. Okay I get it, they are made for each other but do they really have to show it in every damn chapter? It was so irritating at one point. All I could remember is: "Oh, how can I tell my best friend and boss that I'm dating and doing something more with her brother? But I will not tell her for most of the book. " I was so bored at half way in the book. I skimmed a few chapters. At the end I didn't care about them at all.

The cover is very attractive, but I really hoped there would be more cats in this one.

Thank you for the experience!

What the cat dragged in was an adorable rom com. The character’s were lovable and the conflict they faced was definitely relatable. I think the resolution was a bit drawn out and the happy ending wasn’t as profound as I would have wanted it to be, although feel like that was par for the course for these characters’ personalities. I’d give it 3.5/5 stars.

I liked the concept but the dialogue was super awkward and cringeworthy. I don't think anyone would speak to eachother like they do in this book.

Let me just start by saying that if a romance book is written in the third person, it will take me much longer to get used to it and actually enjoy the book. Having said that, I do not think I enjoyed this book very much even when I got used to the third person writing style. Oh, the writing style. Definitely not my type, especially the dialogues. Felt they were boring and not that interesting. The story felt rushed and one of the main 'issues' about the relationship couldn't even be considered an issue. Why did the sister have so much to say about the relationship? Sometimes I felt like the MC was just waiting for the best friend (nonetheless, the guy's sister) to tell her what to do with the relationship and she would just follow her what she'd say. No thoughts, no opinions of her own.
I didn't feel the couple had any chemistry. I did not feel any connection to any characters, everyone was bland and underdeveloped.
So yeah, definitely not one of my favorite books of the year.

Saccharine sweet and predictable….

Look if you want a complete fluff of a novel this is fine. Paige is an ex-corporate hack who at 28 made enough money to go to a passion project type job while living in a new apartment in Brooklyn, everything is perfect except for her messy love life (of course). Enter the happily married best friend boss, the gay bff obsessed with Friends with an unrequited crush and a lot of cats because haha cat lady. Paige meets Josh a first year lawyer at a cat trapping event, they have a one night stand, turns out Josh is Lauren’s brother. For the next 200 pages the only conflict in the book is Paige waffling about telling Lauren who supports the relationship only to have Paige break it off anyway and spend 50 pages pining over Josh. The book was full of cliches, no plot and lackluster sex.

“He didn’t want the ghost of girlfriends past to haunt his future relationships….”*

Paige and Josh have serious chemistry when they meet at a feral cat rescue event. Unfortunately, they discover that Josh is the brother of Paige’s close friend, Lauren, who manages the cat cafe where Paige works as an event planner. Worried Lauren will disapprove, they agree to keep their relationship under wraps, but soon the cat is out of the bag.

I adored the premise of the cat cafe backdrop. Paige’s extended friend group, including fabulous Evan who often steals the spotlight, are well-suited as series characters. The scenes with the cat cafe kitties and feral felines were my favorites. Both Paige and Josh’s jobs were nicely shown and added to the conflict. I also really liked how the New York setting was practically a character itself and how the epilogue served to cement the couple’s connection.

I didn’t care for the numerous references to the television show FRIENDS, which all though the show is in syndication, felt dated. The primary relationship conflict of best-friend’s brother didn’t work for me as it played out in this story for multiple reasons. Paige’s snobby attitude toward her Tinder dates was also a turn off. I’d have preferred if the chapters ended on hooks.

For me, this was a three and a half star read, rounded up to four.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I lost interest part way through the book. It spent a bit too much time on how the hero, an overworked first-year lawyer, spent too much time on his job and hated the corporate clients his firm had. But he seemed to find time to hang out with Paige, a former hot-shot events planner who left her job to plan events at a cat cafe. Apparently, it’s a thing to have cafes with shelter cats available for adoption. It sounds interesting, but I couldn’t buy that such a cafe would have enough business to hire a full-time events planner especially because several of her activities seemed to be free community activities. So I couldn’t suspend disbelief for her job and I got tired of Josh’s misery at his job.

And the difficulty thrown up to block their budding romance was that Josh is the younger brother of Paige’s best friend who is also her boss. She worries that she’ll lose her job and group of friends if the romance goes bad. And the older sister is really strange about the romance when she finds out instead of being happy that her brother has fallen for such a great woman. If Paige was so worried about relationships interfering with her job, maybe she shouldn’t have accepted a job from her best friend. I just couldn’t buy that as a roadblock to a promising romance.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

A rom-com with cats, what's not to love?
Well if I'm being honest, I didn't really love any of it.
I really wanted to get into this story and felt it had potential but it just didn't grip me.
We have Josh a corporate law guy, who works all hours volunteering for the capture of cats and we have Paige a woman who works at the cat cafe, who ironically seems to be scared of cats.
We have Mitch who obviously is the filler so we can have a bit of unrequited love going on and we have others that to be honest didn't grip me, so I haven't retained any of their info.

Now don't get me wrong, this type of book isn't my usual read and I wanted to try something different. Kate McMurray's writing style is good, it's easy to follow, it's descriptive. It's nice.
I just don't think this novel grabs the attention of the reader well and keeps it.

A cute rom-com about a girl who works in a cat cafe and a guy who works as a lawyer. Of course they fall in love--you see that one coming from a mile away. Nothing super impressive about it, but it was a cute story.

Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion. What the Cat Dragged In will be released on December 7th, 2021.

I came for the cats and truly left…bored. I didn’t know this book was apart of a series, and I do feel like I was missing a few things because of it. It started off well but in the end I didn’t feel the connection between the characters, there was no real conflict and the writing was hard for me to follow. This was a pretty one dimensional story and not one I left wanting to recommend.

I feel like the description should have that it is a second book in a series because definitely not a standalone book since it incorporates soooo much of book one. However, really good plot and writing and loved the book

With all my honesty I liked the book at the begging. It was a cute Rom com about cats and a couple that had many obstacles to face. One thing that set me off a little bit was the fact that it was in third person because would be better if was in the first person but that’s the writers style so I can’t really argue with that.

This book had a lot of potencial and I could had given 5 stars and I didn’t unfortunately because when I was half way trough the story I kinda started to lose interest on what was happening and even though it was a one night Stand between Josh and Paige things kinda happened really fast which I don’t like in a book if I’m being honest over here. Even the way it was written didn’t showed up the chemistry between Paige and Josh.

I’m giving 3 stars for the cats which where cute and for Paige and Josh because I really liked them and the friendships because other than that I didn’t really enjoyed the book. I was expecting something and had high expectations that didn’t filled me In.

I feel absolutely awful writing this review. But I did not enjoy this book. Something about the execution was all wrong. The conflict didn’t really even feel like conflict. Paige and Josh were cute together but the chemistry was lacking…I really wanted to like this book. The cover is adorable, cats I love, romances I love, but the way the story unfolds was uninteresting and lacking that spark! I wanted to like this. I truly did. I think the author has potential because the story also has potential. I will try her books again!

Thank you netgalley for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review.

Over all cute book but not a lot of drama as I had anticipated. The banter between the main couple, Josh and Paige, was enjoyable but the overall story was just ok. I was definitely hoping for more and hope the series continues with more depth.

The story of Paige and Josh. When they meet they don't realise that Josh is the older brother of Paige's best friend and boss, Lauren.
Paige is reluctant to get involved as she does not want to risk her job and friendship, but is josh worth the risk?

Looking forward to more books in this series.

I DNF'd around 15%. This is one I might come back to at a later time, but for now, life it too short...

I loved the plot of this. The summary is what made me request the book: cats and romance? Sign me up! But the execution was...lacking. It was just a lot of telling and not showing. The chemistry wasn't there because "they kept getting to know each other" rather than like, giving me the conversation and letting me get to know them too.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for a review. Unfortunately it's just not the book for me.

Cute story. The cats made it more fun. I wanted more of them. The love story between Josh and Paige was believable and cute. I loved the banter between them. I think I wanted more depth with each character throughout the story rather than all at the ending. But wonderful writing and great romance.
