Grow More Food is an amazingly comprehensive book on every aspect of growing, harvesting and storing vegetables, so much so that I am buying my own copy even though I was allowed to view a pre-production copy through NetGalley. The Garden Planning Worksheets and Charts section alone justifies the cost of the book. After inputting the desired number of weekly servings of each vegetable, the spreadsheets populate cells showing the number of plants needed and the number of row feet required to reach that goal through succession planting. Truly a book no serious vegetable gardener should go without! I give this book my highest recommendation.

I consider myself a pretty avid gardener, but prior to reading this one, I had not read a gardening book. So happy this one was my first! I loved the organization of this book and the ease of reading, nothing too wild or unattainable about the tips and tricks talked about between these electonic kindle pages. Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing, LLC for a copy of this book for an honest review.

So far the best gardening book I have read. It's easy to follow and there's so much information but everything is well organized. I have added it to my to-buy list on Amazon so I can get it when it gets released. I have tried to grow my own food several times but I'm not that good at it so I'm hoping this book will help me out. It even explains how to harvest properly, which I haven't seen in other books. I definitely recommend this one. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review

Thanks to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the ARC. Review is my own.

Grow More Food is a fantastic gardening book. But first, I want to address something I hope is just the previews/ARC: the Netgalley app version looks great! But the kindle version has some weird layout issues. I hope that's fixed, but I know kindle layouts can be...unique.

That said, I want to own this book. I garden currently, and I have recently moved into a house. My garden is currently smallish, but in time, I would love to expand it and grow even more. Vegetables are my favored plant, so this book is perfect. It's everything I wish I'd had starting out in one place when beginning my gardening adventure back at my old apartments. Grow More Food advises on seed selection, scaling up your garden size, how to create healthy soil, deal with pests, when to start crops, and how to rotate them. Everything has useful charts, tables, and pictures. It's great for beginners, and very thorough without being overwhelming. It's also got a variety of things I haven't tried to delve into - more "advanced" gardening techniques - like drip irritation, mini-green house propagation, and so on.

I'm very excited for this to come out - in time for spring 2022 gardening!

This is by far the best gardening book I've read yet.

It covers everything you could need, and is explained the perfect amount. The information is also laid out simply.

Really, you could watch hours of gardening videos (like I did) or just read this book. It's literally the perfect gardening book.

This was just what I needed as a failed vegetable gardener who moved on to herbs and wildflowers and want to try my hand again at vegetables. But there is so much to learn about picky vegetable plants that it seems intimidating. Indeed, I sometimes joke that I am a Gardner only in name.

This Gardening 101 book breaks down what you need to know, do, and have to grow edible plants at home. I learned so much and am eager to try out what I learned! From soil types, transplanting, watering, and when to harvest- this book covers it, and covers how to do it organically.

The focus of the book is maximizing the output of a home or small scale commercial garden. I found it helpful as a basic guide to get started with gardening for food. A few parts were not that helpful to me yet, like setting up a greenhouse or what irrigation system to use.

I appreciated the beautiful illustrations, many useful charts, and especially the authors' quirky humor.
I haven't read many gardening books (so can't compare this book with others) but I found it a good, helpful and easy read.

Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Grow more food Colin McCrate & Brad Halm
What a great book that covers every aspect of growing food, it’s a very in-depth book and a must read for anyone who’s interested in gardening vegetables and herbs. It gives practical sound advice on all aspects for a productive garden from choosing your seeds and starting them off, pests and disease management strategies, propagating cuttings, drip irrigation, I particularly like that this book also covers grow lighting, sprouting and micro greens and all year round scheduling of planting and planning that could be tailored for the area where the reader lives for the best results.
There’s a huge amount of valuable information for the beginner who is just starting to grow vegetables in this book but I’m sure the ‘old hand’ gardener could learn something from this book too. It’s nicely sectioned with some lovely photographs and diagrams, a modern gardeners almanac that includes so much more than the usual gardening books for putting food on the table. I think this book would be well used by any discerning gardener and I definitely recommend it

A lot more people are starting to get interested in how to grow their own fruit and vegetables. Having a one-stop-book for how to get started, or to improve your current setup, is a great way to improve your knowledge and improve your garden.

Grow More Food is separated into 5 seperate sections, as well as a handy garden planning worksheets and charts. Each chapter actually does give you tips and ides depending on the size of your own fruit and vegetable garden, what size is best to start at, and also how to scale up your garden if you would like to in the future.

The first section is around planning ahead and keeping records. You are walked through how to map out your garden from your current setup, and how to plan to rotate your crops.

The second section is all about building healthy soil. How to best prepare your soil for planting, as well as how to maintain the quality of your soil are very important aspects of gardening that are easily explained in this section.

The third section is about getting to know your plants. How to select seedlings, which seedling are better as to be transplanted or can be directly seeded into your garden give you the best chance at having an amazing growing season. Also you get to know the basics of how to manage pests and diseases here.

The fourth section is about creating efficient systems. This is the only section that I would say is more for the avid gardener. How to set up a home nursery and how to start your own transplants are more for the experienced gardeners, so once you get the experience at least you will know how to continue growing your garden.

The fifth section is about extending and expanding your harvest. Since crops grow seasonly, how to extend your growing season, as well as the best time to harvest, and more importantly, how to correctly store your harvest will have your crops lasting longer for you.

Finally, the included garden planning worksheets and charts are just super handy. A great quick reference if you are wanting to double check when to plant a certain crop, or how long they take to grow.

This is a one-stop book for all of your gardening knowledge, but it does not also overload you with too much information.

I loved how this book was great for beginners and included lots of pictures; it didn't feel like a super deep read but did the job. Would have loved more ideas for container gardening.

This book provides details and helpful tools that anyone growing vegetables at home can use to improve their crop yields. It walks you through each step needed to decide what to plant and the time of year to plant it, as well as tips to use to tell if your crops are healthy or not. It also helps you to plan and best store all the fruits of your labor. It also lists out the tools and supplies you need which is super helpful if you're a newbie gardener like me!

🇬🇧 This English-language book comes with a lot of knowledge, tips and tricks on how to plant, care for and harvest your own food. From proper planting, watering to fertilization, everything in one book.

The cover already looks delicious, inside there are still a lot of razor-sharp images on each page.

I can recommend this book to anyone who speaks the English language and enjoys gardening.

Thank you to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for sending me a free ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Grow More Food: A Vegetable Gardener's Guide to Getting the Biggest Harvest Possible from a Space of Any Size is an in-depth guide to evaluating your current garden with the goal of improving efficiency and maximizing your harvests going forward (whether that’s through extending your growing season, implementing succession planting, or fixing mistakes you didn’t know you were making).

Basically, getting the most out of your garden comes down to improving your knowledge, planning beforehand, adapting as you go, and keeping organized records. Whether your goal is to be more efficient with your time and resources, expand your harvest size, supplement your income, or something else entirely, this book will help you with exactly that.

I’ve gardened consistently throughout my life, but this is my third year of a maintaining a large home garden. Every year’s garden is a process of trial-and-error and trying new things, and gardening resources such as Grow More Food definitely help minimize the ‘error’ side of ‘trial-and-error’. I found a lot of helpful information within these pages and enjoyed the walk-throughs of the authors’ experiences (like how to interpret a soil test and make soil amendments based on it).

I also appreciated how the authors didn’t assume the reader knows everything and still covered the basics. Some information was new to me, and other information was a good reminder. For instance, I found the “duration of irrigation” section extremely helpful! I currently have to hand water my garden (something the book mentions several times as really not a good use of time or resources with a garden of my size), but a permanent irrigation system is on our list soon.

Like every gardening resource this book can’t cover everything, but there are a lot of other resources and further reading included. And, you can always use a topic as a starting point for further research. My only complaint with this book is the lack of information on hobby greenhouses: many of the examples are set in urban settings that don’t have space for the large high tunnels and nursery-size greenhouses that are discussed in some of the sections.

Overall, this is an incredible resource: there’s an absolute wealth of information within these pages and so many helpful charts and worksheets (after publication the worksheets and charts included in this book will also be available in a digital format on their website, which is fantastic). I keep a pretty detailed garden spreadsheet, but even I found quite a bit of new information to add and new ways to organize the information I track.

Thank you again to NetGalley and Storey Publishing for the privilege of reviewing an ARC.

Wow… I hope we get this book a lot earlier than 2022! Wealth of information for any gardener to yield more from the crops they grow! Love the cover and blurb was very attractive.

What did I like? I was trapped in an apartment at the start of COVID but ended up buying myself an acre of land and a home. So I’m trying my first year of gardening right now. It’s a lot harder than I thought it would be! This book was an absolute delight! The book entails where I would like to be in five years. This year I just threw seeds in the ground to get an idea of what would grow. I wish I would of had this book before that idea bloomed. Pumpkin plant alone took up half my garden and they are huge! The book helps with pretty much every aspect of gardening. I really love the plant beds and the drip irrigation. Also some really good information on yields of crop.

Would I recommend or buy? This guide is really for all types of gardening from novice to expert. I really enjoyed the information and I loved the diary pages. You really have your work cut out for you to be an excellent gardener. It’s definitely worth the effort! I can’t wait to buy a paper copy, I’m positive that it will be money well spent!

I received a complimentary copy to read and voluntarily left a review! Five stars!

This is a really useful and comprehensive book to help would be growers of their own produce in their own garden, this book was extremely useful regardless of the size of plot available.

I particularly liked that it features handy charts to help you evaluate the amount of space you have available enabling you to ensure maximum productivity within whatever space you have available. It also helpfully suggests how much time you will need 2 spend according to the size of the plot, helpfully a further table suggests how long each crop takes to harvest enabling you to plan effectively to get the best results.

There is a chapter on getting to know your plants which I was very tempted to skip to, this chapter advises us on what to grow and when for best results.

The book also advises on managing pests and diseases (unfortunately only in relation to the books subject matter!) but in all seriousness this is a very important and useful chapter as it advises on the best means of dealing with common pests that could hamper the success of a project.

Overall I found this to be a very useful book and would highly recommend it to those interested in such a project. My thanks to NetGalley author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advance copy.
