Amazing picture book on a very important topic. Loved every spread with all the textures, layers and contrasts.

George is an ordinary boy. He loves his parents and he loves playing. But similar to many other children, he is afraid of the dark.

One night, he encounters a mouse and together they embark on an adventure.
The mouse walks him through the corridors of his house and introduces him to more animals who are up at night and their whimsical shenanigans.

They all befriend each other and now, thanks to his nighttime friends, George no longer fears the dark.

The premise of the book may sound simple at first.

But it is written in such a way that, despite its simplicity, or maybe because of it, it captures the interest of its target audience.

It also plays on both a kid's fear (the dark) and a kid's fantasy (fantastical beings who go on crazy adventures when we don't look) and because of the way said fantasy is portrayed, the fear is gone.

It also goes without saying that no matter how lovely the story is, the amazingly beautiful illustrations are out of this world and give this book a highly aesthetic note.

In my opinion, this is a book that can be enjoyed both by kids and by adults.

This is such an amazing and useful story for bedtime. Every child has had a moment in their childhood when they become afraid of the dark.
The cute dialogue and illustrations will make the mind of the little ones wonder and travel in the house of George and like this all the shades are only the shadows of possible friends, connected to fantastic and friendly worlds that cannot frighten the children.

George is worried and a bit afraid of the dark. If only he had a friend to help him out. This book is George gathering their nighttime friends and finding out that everyone is afraid of something. That with just a little help from friends, everything will be okay, if not downright fun. This book was well done. The story was interesting and engaging. The watercolor type illustrations help elevate that nighttime dreaminess that puts the story over the top.

Every kids have the same experience, some got it for awhile, while others sometimes keep it until quite some time. We were all once fear the dark, thinking monsters below our bed will do us bad. So George thought, until he found his nighttime friends. Together, they pursue a fun adventure during the night, until George felt sleepy.

I personally like this book that encourage kids not to be afraid of the dark, but find something fun to do to help them ease the scare.

"George and His Nightime Friends" by author/illustrator Seng Soun Ratanvanh is an exqusitely illustrated bedtime story. The book opens with a young boy named George who is afraid of the dark. He wishes out loud for a nighttime friend and instantly a talking mouse appears. She leads him downstairs where they make the acquaintence of other "nightime friends", such as an anxious penguin, a rabbit with stage fright, and a badminton playing penguin. The whole book has a dream like surrealist quality to it, with lots of colors, patterns, and playful shadows. Visually the book is stunning. I highly recommend this book as a bedtime read-aloud. I also sincerely hope that George and his animal friends appear in future books as well.

I hated the dark growing up. It was the uncertainty of what was there. Ironically, I got over my fear after a very traumatic night when a fugitive was being chased throughout my area. He got arrested on my front lawn, but I saw my dog and Dad stand up and be ready to fight the "bad guy". I realized I had no reason to be scared anymore.

I don't really recommend teaching your kids that way - pick a book like this instead. It might not give the same hit that a scary situation does, but it's less anxiety.

This book is adorable - the illustrations are awesome and really help tell the story. The art style alone drew me to the book, so that's a real bonus! Then you get into the meat of the story and meet George and his nighttime friends (as the title suggests). They help him learn not to be afraid of the dark in a very kid friendly way. Each of his animal friends keeps themselves quite busy and makes him realize he is not alone.

My only negative would be the white font on the patterned backgrounds. It was really difficult for me to read, even when I zoomed in on my digital copy. It's all about accessibility folks!

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Princeton Architectural Press for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

This book is about Geoge, who is afraid of the dark. To make it easier to sleep he decides to seek nighttime friends.

The beginning of the book is a little dark and scary but it makes perfect sense because as George finds more friends the story gets lighter so does the book. The writing is compatible with the emotions of the main character George.

The language is easy to read and a little bit poetic, which I enjoyed. The drawings were vivid and stunning, I loved them a lot.

If my niece spoke English I would read this book to her and she would like it. But I probably would not read this to her right before going to bed.

What magic is this?

This storybook is so amazing! Just open and see the first page. It's filled with the most amazing colourful and dreamy illustrations.

It tells the story of a kid who cannot sleep soon at night and wishes for a night friend to talk and play with before he falls asleep.

This storybook defines the beauty of a child's imagination. It's perfect.

Thank you, author/artist and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

I feel so blessed having read this book!

This is the most charming book, in story and in visual appeal. George is scared of the night and goes around his house searching for nighttime friends. Each new friend he meets has a need that the other friends can meet. This is the most delightful read.

Thanks a lot to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read a copy of the book, to the author as well.

It's the story of a boy who has no friends and at the same time he 's afraid of the dark, he wants to get night friends tho. One night, he found a surprise.

I liked the story. Also that every children's story I read leaves me with something to learn, either for my improvement in English or a learning (moral).

This is such a sweet, cute book. George is lonely and a little bit scared of the dark. But he finds that, with the help of some nighttime friends, nighttime isn't so scary anymore. I absolutely love the illustrations, and the story is so sweet. The text was a bit small, and hard to read from my phone, but all in all, it was a wonderful book

George and his nighttime friends is a beautifully illustrated children's picture book about George - a little boy who can't sleep because he is scared of the dark.
George meets a little mouse while he is awake in bed and the mouse takes him downstairs to meet more friends.
Each of the friends has a fear of something and George learns he is not alone with his fears.
George eventually goes back happy and contented enough to sleep knowing he will see his new friends again tomorrow.
The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful and really draw you into the book!

George is afraid of the dark and has difficulty going to sleep. He wishes he had a friend to keep him company at nighttime. As soon as he wishes this, a friendly mouse comes out of hiding and they have a small adventure through the house, meeting all sorts of new friends who also share their fears. Together they help to calm another new friend who is shaking in fear. At the end of the book, all of George’s new friends help tuck him back into bed.

Seng Soun Ratanavanh has written a new classic for bedtime in George and His Nighttime Friends. This is a wonderful little story to open up discussions about fears while providing a happy ending at the end. The full color illustrations add to the story.

This book was an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My 5 year old grandson really enjoyed the story as I read it to him. I felt it was a good story lesson: why wouldn’t you want Togo to bed and dream of all the night-time friends in your room? The pictures were beautiful and provided much conversation between us. It took the perfect amount of time to read before tucking him in and saying goodnight.

Brings to mind the works of Maurice Sendak. Lovely art and a fun, distracting little story that kids will love.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Princeton Architectural Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is a children's book. I found the story adorable, but I wish the animals had names. Don't friends have names? I thought the illustrations were charming and had alot of detail. Overall a nice book and very easy to read. 4 stars I think most young children will enjoy.

I found this incresibly hard to read due to the streatched images in this formar. It was shifting my attention and I didn't enjoy the book as much as I might have otherwise.

The illustrations were cute-is but I found that there were too many colors. It made me dizzy at times.

The story is also cute, but I was expecting a poem-like form.

It's dark, and George can't sleep. "He thinks of what comes after infinity. He thinks of monsters that hide in the night."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Layered patterns and textures, shapes and shadows color this magical and luscious story. The illustrations are gorgeous: detailed and imaginative and as curious as dreams. Full of hidden details and unique perspectives: a flowery meadow growing from a piano, oversized shadows, a forest inside the pantry, starlit darkness.

At times it's quiet and thoughtful--what's it like to be scared at night--and other times playful and silly--laundry room badminton games.

I highly enjoyed this story. It was magical and extremely well done. An instant classic.
