This was an ok read but not excellent.

6 old friends on a reunion that turns into a nightmare.

It has the premise to be an excellent thriller however I felt the characters lacked nuance and difference and there was too much focus on detail which detracted from the threat and atmosphere of the plot.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for this copy in exchange for an honest review.

Six friends. A weekend escape that turns into a disastrous getaway.

If you can get over the fact that you might need to take notes to read a thriller than this might be an option.

But I think having six characters so similar to each other runs the risk of the reader spending their time determining characteristics over evaluating plot. Which is where I want to be in a thriller.

Most of the plot revolves around these six friends being on this scary island and everyone has secrets and there’s a couple triangulations and several conspiracies to work through. Sometimes people team up and align against others.

It felt a lot like the thriller equivalent of SURVIVOR.

I think my biggest complaint is there wasn’t a lot to it. The speculation of who did what is where the book spends a majority of its time on, almost to an annoying degree.

There are several times where the characters are stuck ruminating on small details and scenarios. Meaning that the reader is forced along and through this game of Clue.

I would’ve appreciated a bit more focus on making the danger the characters are in more believable and the anxiety more heightened.

I really feel like that would have led to more suspense and a more enjoyable reading experience.

This one was tedious at times and caught up in the details.

Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, for the advanced copy!

Loved it, really good fast paced thriller full of twists and turns and had me racing through it to get to the end!! Will look out for more from the author…

The description attracted me to this thriller/suspense; remote island, a group of friends, hidden secrets, murder! But it did not quite come up to its blurb for me; the characters seemed shallow and the suspense not very suspenseful until nearer the end when it did improve. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance digital galley.

It wasn’t what I usually go for when it comes to books, but this wasn’t bad at all. It was a little slow for me at first, but I got to like it. It was a good read, it took me about a week to finish it, but it was a good book to sit and watch the story unfold

This book had me hooked from page one! My favorite part of reading this genre is when there are unexpected twists and turns, and the author of this novel delivered.

I enjoyed The Weekend Escape. A little edgy, easy to read, a desire to keep turning the pages is all you could ask for.

An enjoyable thriller with some twists and turns! The tension build up was well done, although the big plot twist didn't take me by surprise - however it takes a lot to catch me out! I'm excited to read more by this author

I had so much high expectation for this book to be good and unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. I was able to predict who it was and found it hard to connect to the characters which influenced my rating.

A weekend getaway reunion for six friends on a secluded island. What could go wrong?

This story follows a group of friends who, after being apart for ten years, decide to organise a reunion getaway. A weekend full of rock climbing, rappelling, hikes and drinks by the fireplace. This was put in jeopardy when an unexpected storm appears. And then one of the group goes missing after some unsettling incidences. Will they leave the island alive?

I enjoyed the premise of this book. A deserted island mystery will always have my tick of approval!
I enjoyed the unreliable narrator's, but it was a struggle in the beginning to keep them all in order.
It wasn't too hard to figure out this mystery but it was very enjoyable nonetheless.
Well paced and lots of twists.

3.5 stars

A group of friends have a weekend away on a deserted island but things go wrong from day one of their arrival. After on of their party is injured in a climbing accident they begin to suspect each other of being out to harm everyone in the group.

There were a lot of characters to grasp and I have to say none of them were likeable. I was intrigued as to "whodunnit" but the story took too long to get to that point I'd lost interest by the end.

How can friendship survive when there are so many secrets between them.
A great read the secrets that keep you reading and the twists unfold, this is not the holiday they had planned and there is a murderer among them......

The Weekend Escape was a good read, I did want to find out what happened in the end but there were parts where I wasn’t particularly gripped by the story.

Good easy read. Easy to follow the story and didn’t see the end coming as it did. Well written and executed

This book started out strong...great descriptions of the island setting. However, I felt it went downhill from there. I wasn't able to keep track or really differentiate the women. They mostly felt one dimensional and I lost interest.

I enjoyed this book. It was a good read a little confusing in the beginning. It took me about half the book to figure out how each character was. I did find they were hard to keep track of and thought there were too many characters.

This location and set up add to the creepy factor but I feel like the author could have played that up a bit more.

8/10. Enjoyed myself.
