First off, thank you to NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors for the ARC of Nightmare in Savannah!

The cover and title both caught my eye as I haven't seen much in the way of YA horror, and I've seen even less with a diverse cast, (possible) Southern gothic vibes, or in graphic novel format. That leads me to my favorite part of this graphic novel: Every character has a very distinct look, with an array of ethnicities, skin tones, ages, facial expressions, and hair types. I found myself enjoying the art for the most part, too: There's some variety in the staging of each panel, and the story has a muted color palette that leans towards purples and soft reds. The text was small, however, and I struggled to read it in places, especially when letters were bolded and italicized as they appeared blurry.

What I didn't enjoy as much:
1. The antagonists. The adults and bullies are written as one-dimensionally awful people. As soon as our main character steps into her classroom, another student Googles her, finds out her parents are guilty of embezzling, and turns the class against her. The teacher then leads a discussion about familial sin. Not long after, the teacher sends out an email to several students telling them that the main character is now failing his class. The grandpa shouts at her and disciplines her after one mistake after being set up as a sentimental, benevolent character. In a book about fae, I would have liked to see some more nuance and moral grey areas rather than characters like the teacher being senselessly awful.

2. The pacing: There's little time made for transitions between scenes, causing the story to jump hours and between locations between two panels. Exposition is provided in the form of pages from a book detailing facts about the fae, and they're inserted mere panels before the characters learn things about themselves. While it made the story easy to follow, it removed a lot of suspense and made reading the story a lazier experience as I didn't have to do any of my own thinking to form connections.

Who would I recommend Nightmare in Savannah to? Mature middle school or high school readers would enjoy this with its great art and exciting plot. The strength in this book is in the intrigue of the mystery more than its plot structure, making it a fun, quick read for some light horror.

I liked the art style and I enjoyed the overall story line of this graphic novel. After Alexis moves in with her grandfather and makes friends with three other girls, they find out that they are actually changelings. Fae children swapped out to be raised by humans. When they discover what they are capable of they use their powers like most teenagers would. By taking revenge on people who were mean to them, and teachers who won't even give them a chance.

However I did feel like I would have liked it more if it were longer maybe stretched out into more volumes? It seemed to jump around quite a bit, it left me feeling like I was missing things.

I was honestly not a fan of this graphic novel. From the description, I was very interested in reading this graphic novel. The plot was definitely interesting, 4 high school girls finding out that they are changelings with the powers of beguiling their teachers and classmates. Things go wrong and it's up to Alexa to try to understand and fix them. The story line was lacking and overall confusing. The scenes would jump from one to another and didn't really have any sustenance. A nice start but not for me.

I'm honestly not even sure what Nightmare in Savannah was supposed to be about. I did like the diverse cast and 'The Craft' but with faeries gothic vibe. But, the plot and execution was very messy with no real substance. I also wasn't a fan of the art. I wouldn't personally recommend it but I'm sure some will enjoy it. Thank you for the review opportunity. I wish I had it enjoyed it more.

I loved elements of this, and I particularly loved the more modern, explicitly queer update it provided on The Craft (the original). The art isn't my favorite, stylistically, but it's evocative and expressive enough to have drawn me in despite that. As for the story, it was a bit of a mixed bag: some elements were very fascinating and certainly kept me reading, but as many reviewers have pointed out, the pacing was rushed at times and that made the story pack less of a narrative and emotional punch than it otherwise might have. The ending in particular moved so quickly that emotional moments seemed brushed under the rug, and it felt abrupt. I wish this were a limited series or trilogy.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I picked it up without reading anything about it, and I was so pleasantly surprised to find it was about fae!!! So much is written about vampires and witches, but this is the first time I've read a story that really embellishes and works with fae-monster lore. Plus it was a queer romance!!! AH it was so good!

Wow, where to start. This novel gave me such a crazy vibes. It remembered me The Craft movie, which I love. Alexa moved to her grandpa home and met three girls, that immediately became her best friends. After the first night they spent together, Alexa started feeling weird: she has clows, fangs and her eyes had changed the color. Skye, Fae and Chloe have experienced the same, but they don't know how to explain it. So they continue living as always until they find a book about the Fae. The four of them possess great powers, but all great power means a great responsability.
This was a very nice read, I really enjoyed it. As I said, it's very similar to The Craft. The drawings are cool and gave me dark vibes, that I loved.
Also, I didn't understand why Lucas, a guy that studies with Alexa at the same school, was so annoying. It was really creepy. Also, the story about popular mean girls VS the unpopular girl, it's a big cliché. The one thing that saved this novel was the dark magic and the annotations about Fae. I loved the characters, specially the grandpa.
So, if you a huge fan, like me, of The Craft, you will love this novel. If nit, you will love it too.

She also soon finds out that they were all born on the same day and that they are all changelings! What will they do with these newfound fairy powers?

Fairies meets _The Craft_

I saw a lot of similarities between this graphic novel and the movie. I really enjoyed the characters and the pacing of the story. It was a fairly quick read, but it was a good read! Loved the artwork as well.

I'd recommend this book for anyone that's interested in fairies, fantasy, and teenage drama.

I love changelings. I'm obsessed with changelings. I convinced myself I was a changeling in elementary school (and lowkey still might be) so if I see a book about changelings, I read it. Also, queer changelings? I should have been obsessed.

Nightmare in Savannah's biggest (and honestly only) issue is definitely pacing. Everything moves so, so quickly I thought something was wrong with my copy and tried redownloading it in a different format. This should have either been a lot longer or 3ish volumes.

The worst part is, in theory the plot was excellence. In theory I loved this. I finished it yesterday and I'm still mourning what it could have been if given the page space to flourish.

I really wanted to read this book, however the format was not being supported in iPhone and neither kindle. Quite disappointed. I am supposed to give a rating so I am giving it one star. Sincere apologies to the author and publisher, but without having read the book I cannot rate fairly.

"Nightmare in Savannah" is a graphic novel that belongs to the genre of Urban Fantasy. Thus, it depicts America - as we, as readers, know it - in combination with the coexistence of a Faerie world unknown to the general public.

The story is reminiscent of high school horror movies, as it focuses on four high schoolers and discusses themes such as romance, bullying, revenge, grief, and trauma. On a personal note, I loved the pop culture references, such as to the legendary "Mean Girls" throughout the graphic novel!

Furthermore, I love the art style and color palette of the story! The art style is unique but not overly detailed. Nonetheless, the artist can convey emotions and atmosphere efficiently. I am sure that the sketchy art style will appeal to some readers, while for others, it will not be as appealing. I, however, belong to the former. In my personal opinion, the illustration style adds a unique touch to the story.

I subtract one star from the rating since the story moves - in my personal opinion - too rapidly. I will acknowledge that the pages of this standalone are limited, but the jumps from one scene to the next and the resulting actions and events were too fast for my liking.

Nonetheless, I enjoyed this graphic novel and recommended it to anyone who likes graphic novels, YA, Urban Fantasy, and short reads. I will one hundred percent reread this book during the spooky months!

The plot set up and the friend group in this graphic novel reminded me so much of The Craft and I’m not surprised to see other readers point this out as well. Fae was definitely giving me Nancy vibes. If you like classic teen horror movies this would be perfect to read in the spooky/fall season. There was even a small romance included that I thought was really sweet. I think the edgy art style and dark color palette matched well with the tone of the story too. I will say that the quick pacing in some parts was a little confusing, as if some details had been skipped over, but it didn’t hinder me from keeping up with the plot. The story did have a complete ending but I wouldn’t mind reading a part 2!

I am really happy that i got to read this book. now it’s time for a true review. i enjoyed it, it was a little challenge. but a lot of times i found myself drifting off and i think that the book was very fast paced. at first i didn’t really like the art style but after a while i learned to love it and i now think it’s unique. i liked the idea of the book and if i’m being honest i picked it for the cover. overall i think it’s all about personal taste, you like it or you don’t, so if you like reading the same thing again and again this one is for you. even tho it was predictable i had fun reading this. if the description appeals to you, give it a go! it’s short, quick and likely to get you out of a reading slump!

This was such a fun gothic teen read, reminiscent of The Craft in ways. The art style was interesting, but not personally my cup of tea which made the story format a bit less enjoyable but as the story continued I started to feel like the author was very good at depicting emotions and atmosphere through their art form no matter how much I liked the specific style or not.

I also think the pacing was a bit fast for the story. It's such an excellent idea, but things move too quickly and I think things could have been fleshed out a lot better with more time for the story and the characters to develop.

I was pretty interested in this book after seeing what it was about but I was left feeling disappointed after reading it. It felt like the book was missing something and i felt like the plot was mediocre.

This kinda has teen movie vibes and I'm down with that. It has gothic urban fantasy girls get revenge of mean girls thing and I really liked that. But it was too fast paced in a sense?? I ended up being confused in some parts because things were moving on quite quickly when I still haven't fully understood what was going on in another part. There was a weird love triangle thing going on but then it ended up not being one? The art style was pretty great though and that's one of the things I loved, plus the fairy handbook thing that was interspersed in the pages.

She and her new friends get drunk in the woods one night and discover that they are changelings, faeries swapped at birth with human babies. They use their powers to get revenge on fellow classmates that made fun of them and bullied them. Will they go too far, and what will it cost them?

A story filled with teen drama, a hint of romance and a lot of magic, Nightmare in Savannah sets a gothic, fun vibe for the reader.
This was a pretty cool little story. I liked the format of there being pages from the fairy hunter's journal spread throughout the main story. I would happily read this if it were flushed out into a full novel.
The drawing style was really funky and fun with a limited but suitable colour pallette.
I found the story to be quite reminiscent of The Craft, but with fairies. Which is great because I love The Craft.
A fun little read, maybe best enjoyed in spooky season.
