Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to inspiring people. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

“On the upper floor of a humble house on the south side of Chicago, a little girl called Michelle was growing up. Every night, she put her stuffed friends to bed, telling them the same thing her parents told her: ‘Study hard and be great!’”

Michelle always had big dreams. She wanted to be like her dad and get the best education possible. When it was time for high school, she had to go a long way from home to attend one that was for top students, but it was worth it.

My Goodreads review includes a page illustration with the caption:
“There, all the students looked different, but were all very much alike: they shared a passion for learning.”

She was hoping to make it into a top university, preferably Princeton, but one of her teachers said she'd never get in. [That’s where her older brother was going, but this book doesn’t mention him until the biography at the end. There is a picture of him on the second page, but it doesn’t say who he is. Brother and sister were both smart, and I think it’s important to know that she had a good reason for choosing Princeton.]

My Goodreads review includes a page illustration with the caption:
“Far from being discouraged, Michelle was determined to prove her wrong.”

After becoming one of Princeton’s top graduates, she went to Harvard and then back to a fancy Chicago law office. While she was there, the firm assigned her to mentor a young law student, Barack Hussein Obama.

My Goodreads review includes a page illustration with the caption:
“Michelle became his mentor, but they soon realized they shared a love for family and education, and a strong desire to help those less fortunate.”

After her beloved father died, she quit her job to join a non-profit organisation that helps young people learn to be leaders. Later, after she and Barack married, she agreed to support him in his campaign to run for President. And the rest, as they say, is history!

My Goodreads review includes a page illustration with the caption:
“Barack became the first African American president of the United States, and Michelle, a First Lady like no other.
The presidential White House, built by enslaved Black people 200 years before, was now a Black family’s home.”

While in the White House, Michelle began growing fruit and vegetables on the lawn, and she made up her mind to share her passion with others.

My Goodreads review includes a page illustration with the caption:
“…she had found her number one cause: food and fitness. It was not just her daughters’ menu she wanted to look after, but the health of young people all over the country.”

She took her message to schools and travelled the world to encourage people to grow nourishing foods and participate in sports.

I’m sure she has inspired millions of people, not just girls. I am disappointed with the illustrations because the people are unrecognisable (with the possible exception of Barack’s ears). The graphic designs are fine, but I don’t think it’s appropriate for such real, very well-known people.

As always in this series, there are four actual black-and-white photos, a short biography, and a couple of other resources to learn more, including from the Work It Girl series "Become a leader like Michelle Obama" by Caroline Moss, which I enjoyed and also reviewed

Thanks to NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the copy for review.

Another adorable entry into the Little People BIG DREAMS picture book series. This one is all about America's first Black First Lady: Michelle Obama. We learn about her childhood and what inspires her. We hear about her relationship with President Obama and some of their accomplishments. As always, the book is loaded with colorful illustrations and is written in a way to appeal to kids and inform them in an age-appropriate way.

This series is one of my personal faves, and amusingly enough I saw a copy in my local grocery store the other day. I was so excited and pointed it out... I probably looked crazy.

Anywho, this time around we get to learn about Michelle Obama! I love women getting their time to shine in these books, especially really cool women! Michelle is the height of cool these days with the amazing work she's been able to do. Seeing Michelle's story come to life in this book was really awesome. It helped bring light to her early days, not just her philanthropy work.

I do think the illustrations are kind of weird, but I do like the colours they present. They make Michelle look... really weird. And she's a beautiful woman! So the images making her look strange felt... off.

This is a series to help get young readers into non-fiction and learning about famous, intelligent or popular people. I highly recommend picking up these books as they have engaging illustrations and tell quite the tell.

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group, Frances Lincoln Children's Books and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

While wandering around NetGalley, I stumbled across this awesome new board book series for babies and toddlers. The vibrant, yet simple, covers displaying historical women that I have grown up learning caught my eye, and it instantly drew me to pick up a few of these books off the shelves. To be totally honest, I was so intrigued by these books that I ended up sitting right down to explore this new nonfiction board book series.

Through my reading and my post-reading research, I have learned that Little People, Big Dreams is a new series that focuses on introducing the youngest of readers to amazing, wonderful women that have influenced the world. Each book is purposely designed in order to highlight one woman who has made a difference in the world. It tells the story of that women's dream and how she was able to make her dream come true despite the biggest of obstacles.

I loved the simplicity of the design of the series, Little People, Big Dreams. The authors and illustrators who have worked on this project clearly understand their audience, and they have made each of the books reflect exactly what they want their youngest of readers to be exposed to. Designed for babies and toddlers, Little People, Big Dreams uses simple text and engaging pictures to tell the story of each woman in a kid-friendly manner.

Often times, my biggest complaint with board books is that they lack plots or messages. Even though board books are purposely designed for babies and toddlers, I absolutely believe they still need to be strong examples of books that contain both strong plots and messages. All age levels of children need to have access to great text.

I loved how Little People, Big Dreams designed their biography series for baby and preschool readers. There are not many nonfiction book series out there. This series is absolutely helping to pave the way to push the norm for what we typically think of when we think of baby books. Little People, Big Dreams series is a positive example of how even our youngest readers can read and learn from awesome books!

This short precise story on Michelle Obama is done well. I wish I liked the presentation better in terms of the writing and the art sequence. Maybe I anticipated too much more than I should.

Still a good read for kids and beginners.

Thank you, author and the publisher, for the advance reading copy.

Michelle Obama is a true inspiration. She grew up on the South Side of Chicago, where getting the best education was not always easy. Yet, she persevered and even though her guidance counselor discouraged her from applying to Princeton, she did. She graduated there and went on to Harvard to get a Law Degree.

While First Lady, she championed Food & Fitness because that is essential to live a long and healthy life.

Still, the most moving part was reading how slaves built the White House. I imagine none could envision a Black Family living there. Yet, it happened and shows history is long and nothing is impossible.

I think Michele Obama has left that message for so many brown girls. Don’t let life ever tell you that you can not make it. You can. She also radiates strength to all.

The only reason I gave this 4* instead of 5* is this is the first time the illustrations just didn’t bring more magic to the book.

Excellent Book and should be a book in every school and library.

Thank you NetGalley, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara, and Frances Lincoln Book Publshers for an ARC. of this book. I love each and every one.

Michelle’s story is one of hard work and giving power back to people who need it most. She strived to make a difference in her communities and her country. I also appreciated that the aspect of slavery was brought up in a way that could spark conversation apart from the story. This book also shows that Black women deserve to take up space in ALL areas. This story also embraced on the importance of education, and further the education of girls. This is an empowering book for children.

The first black First Lady that inspired so much, Michelle life is not easy. Still having to endure discrimination of being a black people, she kept pushing through and prove them wrong. This lady was a force of her own, who can stand tall and proud, next to her husband. She didn't become a "mere" First Lady, but use her position to break through walls.

And you can be another Michelle Obama.

The author did a good job discussing - at an age-appropriate level for young children nonetheless - how Michelle cultivated her own identity when she was living in the White House.

Always easy sells, this book is a great keepsake for everyone’s fave recent First Lady. I think the Obamas became fairly likeable and many folks will want this bit of Michelle’s story for kids

I would like thank to NetGalley and the author for providing me with the ebook.

I think this is my 5th or 6th book in the Little People, Big Dreams series. When I saw that there was a new one about Michelle Obama - who is one of my role models by the way - I had to request for it immediately. It was simple, to the point and inspiring at the same time.

Michelle Obama is another interesting and inspiring female figure in this amazing series by critically acclaimed author - Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara.
This child friendly series of biographies has so many amazing people in it and I must say that Michelle Obama is one of my favourites so far.
Starting from when Michelle was a little girl and building to after Barack was elected president of the United States, this book encourages children to never give up on their hopes and dreams, no matter how big or little these dreams may be.
