I liked this book but the heroine was a bit much. Overall, I found this book quite enjoyable. I thought the writing was well done and the story entertaining. I fell so hard for Gray. I found his story and his attitude very fun. I was not such a fan as far as Mercy went. Personally I found her grating and too often, annoying. Still, as part of the couple I felt the chemistry was good as was the banter.

Gary "Quick Shot" the fastest gun in the west just wants to retire and enjoy a quiet life, but his horse decided to be contrary which leaves Gary engaged to Mercy who he just met.
That is when his life becomes very complicated.
Great different story, some drama, angst, humor, and a sweet romance.

What a cute, fun story! I don’t usually read historical romance, and haven’t read a historical western romance in quite a while, but this story was a hoot! I wasn’t sure what to think when i started reading, but I loved Mercy. She was just such a strong personality and took nothing from anyone. Gray was as curmudgeonly as they come, but underneath was a softie when it came to Mercy. The supporting cast of characters in the small town of Desolation were a perfect group for this couple. Entertaining story all around.

4.5 stars.
This was such a fun read but it did have it’s heartfelt moments as well. Gray Woodson was so laid back and just wanted peace in his retirement. Mercy was a feisty woman and there was some amusing banter between them. There are some dangerous events and some very interesting secondary characters. I’m sure they must have their own back stories as well. This story moved along at a good pace and kept my interest throughout. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Laugh-out-loud Rom-Com with scary, tender, poignant and passionate moments
I literally laughed-out-loud while reading this book…several times! These two characters are hilarious without trying. Gray Woodson is a retired gunslinger. They usually don’t get old enough to retire. They’re usually killed before that happens, but somehow, Gray beats the odds. Unfortunately, when he is recognized in a town, he just picks up and moves on. That is until he reaches a little town in the middle of nowhere named Desolation. Gray gets embroiled in a situation in which his horse Birdie seems to want to include Gray. He becomes Mercy’s fiancé because…why not?! What happens when the town folk decide to get them married, not knowing the truth behind their engagement? But will his shooting abilities keep Josiah Banff away? Josiah wants Mercy’s land and will do anything to get it. The ending was surprising but so heartwarming. I must admit I cried. Loved this book. There are scary but also poignant moments and then there’s the steam!
If you like a very funny rom-com with passion between two strong-willed people, try this book. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Entangled/NetGalley.

HITCHED TO THE GUNSLINGER by Michelle McLean is the story of the surprising love that erupts between world-weary gunslinger Gray and fiery, opinionated Mercy. Their sham marriage is only one of the twists of fate that enliven this light romance between a man who cannot wait to live a quiet, anonymous life and a woman who needs his expertise and experience to help her battle avaricious and petty others who will do whatever it takes to get what is hers for themselves. A fast, enjoyable read complete with quick-witted banter and hard choices made by characters I immediately warmed to and grew attached to throughout the story. I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

I loved this book. I loved the characters, I loved the plotline, I loved the banter and the sexual tension. This was so enjoyable. Gray and Mercy are an opposites attract couple that I just adore. It's funny, sweet, and oh so sexy. This was my first American West historical romance and I think I'm hooked. Definitely add this to your historical romance tbr.

This Western historical took me back to when I used to read them all the time. There were many of my favorite tropes included too; age gap, fake relationship, gunslinger, a little bit of a possessive hero thrown in. This new to me author set a perfect scene, and had a way of writing that drew me in as well as had the book reading like I was watching a show. I wouldn't be surprised to see some stories pop up about the other townsfolk, and would be excited to read those as well.

Now, historicals and westerns in the romance genre aren't typically my thing, but somehow, Michelle McLean made me devour a book that is both! A combination of witty dialogue and great characters is my catnip and McLean has both. While it wasn't a perfect book (I had some issues with the pacing in particular) it was an enjoyable one!

Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing for an ebook ARC :) All thoughts in the review are mine alone.

It was an easy read and I read it in one day. It kept me entertained but not captivated. I was so glad that I didn’t see misspellings or typos and give kudos to the author for that.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast paced story by this new to me author. It had heart, humor and heat! I loved the vivid characters. Grey, the H, was a grumpilicious retired gunslinger looking for a quiet place to retire. Mercy, the h, was a feisty, headstrong landowner trying to fight the unwanted advances of the neighbouring rancher who wanted her land. Even the secondary characters were fleshed out with well developed personalities, including the horse! Add in dual POV, the interesting story line, lots of funny scenes with witty banter, sizzling intimate scenes without being over the top and an HEA and you have a winner in my books!

All Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson wants to do is find a place to retire where he can settle down and take a nap. Needless to say, naps aren’t in Gray’s future in Hitched to the Gunslinger. Author Michelle McLean pairs a grumpy gunslinger motivated by food and peace and quiet with a spitfire orchard owner whose cooking leaves something to be desired. It’s a rollicking rom-com as these two strike sparks then slide into love faster than Gray can pull a pistol.

Gray is grungy, grumpy, and being bested by his nag of a horse when he arrives in Desolation. Mercy is defending her land against the book’s villain who wants to snatch it from her by fair means or foul. Gray’s surprise arrival gives Mercy the opportunity to buy time by claiming the fearsome gunslinger is her fiancé. Gray goes along with it in exchange for a place to rest his head and some cooking to fill his belly. From the start, Gray and Mercy strike sparks off one another, but for me it took until halfway through the book for Hitched to the Gunslinger to hit its stride. There wasn’t anything particularly wrong with the story other than I didn’t find Gray or Mercy particularly compelling until the halfway point. I just wanted more from them, Mercy especially. McLean’s gives readers glimpses into Gray’s past that help fill out his character (the reason he’s so fond of daisies stood out in particular) and I only wish Mercy had been given the same attention.

Hitched to the Gunslinger found its footing for me as Gray became part of the town of Desolation. I loved the town residents and the way they banded together, always supporting and never judging one another. Desolation gave the story life and made me smile more than once. I enjoyed watching the residents make Gray feel welcome and manage to nudge him into being what they needed. As Gray finds himself he and Mercy become a stronger couple and by the end of the story I was rooting for them as they faced down a villain and his hired guns. All in all, I liked Gray and Mercy’s tale. It’s a fun romance with a strong supporting cast plus a few animals who threaten to steal the show for good measure.

Loved this cover! This was a western romance and I enjoyed it. These two were driving each other crazy in equal measures and they were both stubborn and likable. The chemistry didn’t start until after the forced wedding. I love to see a man fall head over heels in love. There was shoot outs with bad guys, goats, drunks and romance. What more could a girl ask for. This was fun and light and I recommend it for a summer read.

Hitched to the Gunslinger was so much fun. I really liked Mercy and Gray. Gray is a retired gunslinger who is roped into becoming Mercy’s fake fiancee after the resident bad guy is trying to take Mercy’s property. There were several parts of the story where I laughed out loud. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. Thank you to Netgalley and Entangled Publishing, LLC for the ARC. This is just an awesome story. It has rock solid great characters. Gray is gunslinger seeking to retire. He loves nothing more than good food and a quiet plot take a nap. Mercy is feisty female who is in need of someone to protect her from a man trying to take her land. She is a terrible cook but is fiercely loyal and determined. The story has a wonderful cast of characters that will leave you laughing out loud at their antics. They are not what they seem and are great at looking out for each other. Mercy and Gray go from strangers to husband and wife who fall desperately in love.

I was absolutely smitten by that cover and I loved the synopsis, so I was excited to get to a new to me author.

I loved Mercy and Gray. They’re more similar than they think and the banter slash button pushing was some of the best. I really loved watching their relationship evolve. There are some other great characters in the townspeople and I would absolutely read more from this group.

Plot wise, it was good. There were some parts that did get a little repetitive, but the characters made it easy to overlook. The build up was slow and the epilogue was absolutely satisfying.

Overall, this was a quick and fun read. I’ll be looking into the other books this author has written.

Such a lovely, lovely story!

It features the romance of Mercy, a very independent woman who owns an apple orchard and the gunslinger who happens to be near the altercation when a very mean neighbor corners Mercy in order to, yet again, ask her to sell him her land or marry him, anything for him to get her property.

From the beginning, Gray, though I found him quite attractive and catchy, was pretty grumpy, a kind of grumpiness that I feared will make this not a very good story. Boy, was I wrong! He has such an interesting charm, and is pictured pretty realistic, at least what I would imagine a 40 year old gunslinger would be like.

The story is not super fast paced but there is no dull moment. It flows beautifully. But the true beauty of this book lies in the heartfelt moments, how naturally the love story progresses and how all the townspeople create a home for the rebel gunslinger and make him part of the community. The heated moments are not lacking, so this book is the whole package.

I also feel the need to mention the mirth, there is a sort of ease, of joviality, of simple happiness that surrounds Mercy and Gray, they banter, they argue, but always with a light heart, always taking care of each other, always playful and loving. All the book is infused with this vibe and it makes it all so lovely!

I received a copy of this in exchange for my honest review.

It's been awhile since I've read something both historical and down right hilarious! Michelle McLean as a flair for both. The characters were terrific, especially Gray, and the plotline was original and entertaining. I would highly recommend reading Hitched to the Gunslinger if you're interested in an enjoyable read!

I really enjoyed this story. I found it to be quite funny, endearing, and all around good time. This is a multiple perspective romance during the old west. It follows Gray, who just wants to be left alone and leave the life of a gunslinger behind him and Mercy, who just wants to run her land and live in peace. Both of these characters were great, Gray came off like a grumpy old man with hilarious results and I liked that trait, especially paired with Mercy, no nonsense attitude and teasing nature, which resulted in a great combination. I also really liked how the relationship was portrayed and built up. It was not insta love but a steady progression, Gray and Mercy are a great match and you really believe the romance. These characters were not perfect, they had flaws and were older or at least Gray was, then typical romance characters. which I really liked having represented in a romance. There was a lot of angst in the beginning of the book, the spicy scenes were pretty quick to come and go. The story and the writing flowed nicely, it was predictable but I enjoyed it non the less. I would definitely recommend this romance. It was really an exciting read.
Trigger warnings: Excessive drinking, gunfights, murder, kidnapping.
