Tired of the notoriety and dangerous life, Gray “quick shot” Woodson wants to wind down and find a quiet town where he can retire and take as many naps as he wants. Lots and lots of naps… Guided by his horse, Birdie, he reaches Desolation. Just when he is ready to take that first step into his retirement life, he meets Mercy Douglas who has other plans for him. Within seconds of meeting Gray, Mercy Douglas declares him her fiancé, successfully shooing away potential land thief waiting to prey on a single woman. Things get less peaceful for Gray when the townspeople decide to make him their new sheriff. Added to this is a vicious landowner just waiting to get rid of him and Mercy. Gray realizes peace and his naps are drifting away.

‘Hitched to the Gunslinger’ is such a light, humorous, feel-good page-turner. This book has such a perfect blend of an adorable main couple, delightful side characters, a villain worth hating, and a plot that keeps you engaged till the very end. Michelle McLean brings all these elements together with such expertise that it keeps you entertained through every page

Mercy is an admirable heroine; Independent, adventurous and feisty! Gray Woodson is such an adorable and fun character. I couldn't get enough of his funny banter with Mercy.
The side characters also play a huge role in making the book engaging from beginning to end. Everyone, including Birdie, the horse, is unique and likeable, and their interactions with grumpy Gray, who can’t catch a nap, is utterly delightful.

It might not be laugh-out-loud funny, but it certainly had me grinning through-out. With a nail-biting climax and a heart-warming ending, this book is a must-read for romance lovers!

I don’t usually read cowboy stories but I may have to rethink that now because I absolutely 100% loved this story. I love everything about this story especially Mercy and Gray. They were both so stubborn and Mercy was not like the timid frontiers woman you usually hear about and their banter made me smile and laugh. Also Gray was so swoon worthy and I loved that he was a man in his 40’s instead of some 20 year old gunslinger. His need for food and nap was right up my alley too. 😂 I actually hope their might be another story in the works for Sunshine and the rest of the town because I need of this like now. 😂

This book was a lot of fun! What do you do when a notorious gunman rides up behind you while another man is standing there threatening you? You claim to be engaged to him, of course! And what do you do when you're the gunman and the woman being threatened offers you supper? Apparently you trail after her like a lovesick cowpoke. And that folks is how it all started.

Mercy and Gray definitely had their moments when I was pretty sure one would throttle the other while cussing up one side and down the other. The humor in this book was fantastic. I may not have laughed out loud, but I was definitely grinning. Mercy and Gray were both memorable characters and the entire cast of secondary characters were also interesting and funny. I think Gray was the best character. He was very reluctantly dragged into protecting the town and caring about the people, that he had to give up his precious naps to do it (I feel for you, Gray!). There was just enough heat in the story to keep things even more interesting. A fun, fun read!

I was gifted a copy of this book via Entangled Publishing and NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.

Hitched to The Gunslinger is a easy to read, sweet historical romance (3.5 star rounded up to 4). I really enjoyed the characters, there is always something about a big, grouchy man turning into a softy that gets me. The plot flows almost like to books in one. The first half of the book would score 3 stars for me , a retired gunslinger just happens to fall into the lap of our heroine as she is being harassed by the local rich guy. A fake engagement later and all seems to be well. Everything just flows smooth no real conflicts just two people in a fake relationship making the best of it. The rich bad guy really does not cause much of an issue until the last half of the book and then the action picks up and the pages really begin to turn. The ending is 4 star worthy. Overall, I enjoyed the ending more than the beginning but the characters make the story worthwhile (3.5 star rounded up to 4). My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.

I received an advanced reader’s copy of Hitched to the Gunslinger by Michelle McLean.

This was a fun read. Gray Woodson and Mercy are both great characters. They aggravated and annoyed each other. Despite this, they had a strong attraction between them. I liked the tension created by the contrast of these emotions.. Both are strong characters and were well paired as a couple. There were also unique secondary characters that added depth and entertainment to the story.

Gray Woodson, AKA "Quickshot Woodson" retired gunfighter, cant seem to stay out of trouble. What with all the young whippersnappers trying to make a name for themselves by putting HIS name on a headstone, a protégé who will not leave him alone, and now an apple-scented damsel in distress, he is not having a good day. Mercy Douglas will see that bad day and raise it. With her father barely in the ground, the nefarious Josiah Banff wants her land, her water rights, and oh yes, her. The town of Desolation might just be able to save these two people. If only they could figure out some way to keep the two of them safe...
"Hitched to the Gunfighter" is a cute, light, sexy romance set in The Wild West era with interesting protagonists. I am grateful to NetGalley and the author for the ARC which I received at no charge, but all opinions are my own.

Gray is a famous gunslinger who just wants to find a place that’s never heard of him and retire in peace. But when your moniker is “Quick Shot”, that’s a pretty tall order. When he reaches a town called Desolation, he thinks he might’ve just found his nook. That is until a bossy brunette declares him her fiancé to help her out of a tight situation.

When he agreed to be Mercy’s fake fiancé, Gray expected his reputation to do all of the work while he enjoyed his retirement napping. He didn’t expect a head butting goat named Lucille, having to hide his guns from his “fiancé”, or fending off a town of quirky characters that keep trying to make him Sheriff. And he definitely didn’t expect the powerful attraction he felt for the bull-headed, passionate woman who couldn’t cook a lick to save her life.

But it was attraction he felt. And that attraction was completely mutual. When Gray showed up, Mercy named him her fiancé in hopes of deterring anyone from taking a grab at her land. She didn’t expect him to want to just eat and nap all day, everyday. She needed protection, dang it! Well, if he wasn’t going to help her at least learn to protect herself, then he really shouldn’t be so shocked when she took his guns into her own hands.

These two characters were perfectly flawed. This wasn’t a love at first site, perfect woman meets perfect man story. Gray is a cranky curmudgeon in his early forties who doesn’t give two cents about his grungy appearance and Mercy is an independent, bull-headed thirty year old who burns everything she cooks and is quick to temper. But together they worked.

I believed their romance and enjoyed them getting to know each other. And I loved all the supporting characters. The town was full of good-intentioned busy-bodies who accepted a gunslinger as their own. I’m so very curious to learn the back stories of some of the characters like Preacher and Mrs. DuVere. I would read the heck out of their stories.

Overall, it was a fun read. I loved this story and I’m already looking into more stories by this author.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for releasing this ARC to me in exchange for an honest review.

Hitched to the Gunslinger is a light hearted funny story about retired gunslinger looking for a place to call home and a woman fighting to keep her land. Quickshot Woodson meets Mercy, at the grave of her newly deceased father while she is mourning his loss. Josiah is trying to coerce her to sell him her land. Mercy refuses and quickly claims the "retired" gunslinger her fiance, much to the shock and dismay of the gunslinger. These two are in for a shock as neither has ever met another person as stubborn as each other.

What a fun, sexy, fake relationship story!

I laughed a number of times throughout reading this and it was such a delight.

Gray was a completely different hero then you'd think he'd be as a famous gunslinger. He wanted to retire, eat good food and nap. A lot.
Mercy just wants to be left alone by the neighbour and keep her farm going. I loved reading about a female historical character that didn't know how to cook.

There were a number of things I loved about this story:
Gray.
Naps.
Guns hidden and easily found.
The townspeople.
Naps.
Gray's horse.
The goat.
Naps.
Sunshine.
Did I mention the naps?

Enjoyed to western setting and seeing the two main characters come together and end up loving each other in the end. there was just enough suspense in the story to keep you on your toes. If you like a great western romance this book is for you. (less)

Hilarious and heartwarming! Gray ‘quick shot’ Woodson just wants to retire his life as a gunslinger for a life of peace and napping. When he’s thrown into a situation involving a fake engagement with Mercy we see that there is more to Gray than even he knows. The depth of character and development from the two main characters is excellent. Gray is a cinnamon roll and you can’t help but fall in love with him! The supporting characters are fun and the plot is intriguing. A quick read that I definitely recommend! The town of Desolation has some great characters and more stories to tell and I can’t wait to read them! I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.

One FUN Read ! !
This was such a fun light-suspense filled American West romance. It's not too spicy, and filled to the brim with twists and turns. Meanwhile Gray and Mercy learn there can be more to life than their pasts have led them to believe. Now will they both grasp the possibilities? Happy Reading ! !
NOTE: I received an ARC of this story from the publisher.

A modern, Old West Romance
I am a Romance reader, and I read lots of them, in many different genres. This is the first that I can remember reading that is set in the “Old West”. I loved this book! So worth reading! It’s funny, has good characterizations, and is somewhat true to the time. I’d consider it a modern version of an Old Western story. It kept me interested from start to finish, and didn’t drag the story. Humorous, with some adult scenes. I think the author, Michelle McLean, did a superb job of telling the story of the gunslinger who wants to retire, and the single “old maid” who ropes him into helping her. It appears the author has written a few Western and Scottish romances, and I’m going to look for another of hers to read.

I hate to give a bad review and try every way to avoid it. But there is no way getting around it with this book, I just could not finish reading Hitched to the Gunslinger. The vulgar language in the book was too much for my taste. I realize that people talked like that but I am around that kind of language all day, I read to get away from it. The part of the story that I read was interesting and I liked how witty the story was. I would have finished the story if not for the language.

First of all I'd like to thank NetGalley for sharing the ARC of Hitched To The Gunslinger with me. My thoughts on this book are my own and not influenced by my access to this ARC. That being said, I found this book a refreshing break from the modern day women's fiction books that I have been reading. I haven't read a "cowboy western" story in a while and was quite pleased as I read the tale of Mr. Quick Shot! Gray made me laugh with his outlook on his 'retirement' and Mercy made me laugh even more with her boldness. I loved both of their personalities, enjoyed meeting the townsfolk of Desolation, loved how everyone pulled together to protect their town and I was glad the good guy won in the end!

One of the wonderful things about Netgalley is that occasionally you stumble across a hidden gem that you probably would never have found otherwise, but you're might glad you did.
Hitched to the Gunslinger by Michelle McLean was one of those books. Gray "Quickshot" Woodson is a retired gunfighter, who is just looking for a little peace and quiet in his retirement, which leads him to the town of Desolation and the front porch of Mercy Douglas.

I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing of this story and loved the development of the relationship between Gray and Mercy, who had wonderful chemistry and amusing banter from the very start. Their relationship seemed very natural and believable. There were also some great steamy scenes between the two that felt really honest.

The plotline was fabulously entertaining, with a great mixture of dramatic moments and light relief. I also really appreciated the characterisation of the eccentric mix of townsfolk. Although the romance was absolutely the focus of the story, the antics of the side characters really helped to flesh out the world and make the town really come alive. And don't get me started on the addition of the calamitous goat, which gave me serious Tessa Dare vibes.

There were so many wonderful moments, including the surprise wedding and the ending where all of the townsfolk banded together to help Gray and Mercy. I was seriously impressed with the whole of Hitched to the Gunslinger, and although this is my first book by Michelle McLean, I was absolutely be keeping my eye out for further releases by her in the future.

Mercy is in a bad situation, trying to hold onto the property she inherited when her father died. A neighbor is willing to do anything to get the property and he doesn't have any scruples about how he will accomplish that. When Gray Woodson, aka Quick Shot, happens along on his way to find a nice spot to retire, Mercy soon pulls him into the situation for some protection. The again gunslinger doesn't want to do any more shooting, he just wants to take a nap.

This is a funny story and very interesting as well. This author is going on my "must read" list. She is as entertaining as another great author that writes with this style. How fun to have two authors writing the kind of stories I like!

I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

I don't normally read Western Romance tales, but this one sounded intriguing. I love that the characters are older and have experienced life, yet still are able to find someone to share their dreams with. Gray and Mercy might not be "picture-book" H and h, but they mesh and that's what's important. Lots to learn from this book and I'm not sorry I selected it to read. Give it a try! I received an ARC of this book and have made this review voluntarily.

Gray “Quick Shot” Woodson and Mercy supply more laughs per minutes than any book I have read lately. Gray just wants to retire which is hard for a gunslinger. Mercy just wants keep her home and she is in danger of that. When Gray turns up in front of her house the fun begins. Read to see how this plays out and get read to laugh, laugh, laugh.
