Narwhal is cheerful, enthusiastic, and excited to try new adventures. He and his best friend, Jelly, meet a school of fish. One thing leads to another, and they're all off to class! But the teacher has a cold.

They're all in luck, because Narwhal nominates himself as teacher, and Jelly as his teacher/instructor. The subjects are slightly different than those I recall in early school...I'm sure I would have remembered waffles and math combined. Everyone learns amazing facts, miscellaneous tips, and questionable scripting techniques.

It's educational, fun, and under water. And we learn multiple words that mean the same thing every time the fish make a remark! Sometimes in different languages! All if this with a jelly fish, a narwhal, and the secret to playing a game called "Tag, You're Awesome!"

Join Narwhal and Jelly in their school adventure. You will never think of a group of fish the same way again!

This book actually is educational, funny, and chipper; in a good way. It's a great book to read aloud to kids while showing the pictures, or read alone; for children or playful teens and adults of all ages.

5/5 Stars

Thanks to the publishers and NetGalley for the preview of this ebook!

Narwhal's School of Awesomeness is the sixth Narwhal and Jelly easy reader book by Ben Clanton. It is currently scheduled for release on September 7 2021. Dive into four new stories about Narwhal and Jelly becoming substitute teachers! The two best friends come across an enthusiastic school of fish one morning. Unfortunately, Mr. Blowfish, their teacher, has come down with a cold, and class will have to be cancelled until Professor Knowell (Narwhal) and Super Teacher (Jelly) volunteer to help out! The first subject is Wafflematics, in which Narwhal and Jelly calculate the number of waffles needed to feed the class. That's what we're chalking about! Next up is a super-fun science scavenger hunt, followed by a game of "Tag! You're Awesome!" at recess. Narwhal's teaching methods may be unconventional, but with Jelly's help, the two teach (and learn) with their trademark positivity and humor. Before they know it, the day is over, but what grade will Narwhal receive from Jelly?

Narwhal's School of Awesomeness is exactly what I wanted and expected from this book. As always, the story is clever and fun, an enjoyable read for emerging readers and those reading the book with younger readers or groups. I like that the story is about positivity, helping, and fun while learning. I also like that I learned a few things, because there were a couple names for animal collectives included that I had not known before. The artwork is consistent with previous installment of this series, and a perfect match to the characters and story. I still recommend this series for those looking for easy readers (particularly to fans of Mo Willems) and this book has encouraged me to continue on with that, and say it a bit louder for those that might not have discovered it yet.

Another fun, funny, adorable installment in the Narwhal series. In this adventure, Narwhal and Jelly find themselves subbing for the sickly Mr. Puffer and end up teaching their own version of their favorite subjects to a school of fish! Filled with some fun sea facts, fans of the Narwhal series will love this latest addition!

An absolutely adorable children's graphic novel. Narwhal and Jelly do not disappoint. I enjoyed the concept of making school fun and relatable to children. The sunglasses and waffles were my favourite parts.

Narwhal and Jelly are back for another fantastic adventure in Narwhal's School of Awesomeness. This is the sixth novel in the collection, and I sincerely cannot recommend this series enough.

Written and illustrated by Ben Clanton, Narwhal's School of Awesomeness sends Narwhal and Jelly off on a new adventure – the adventure of teaching. No, really! They're becoming substitute teachers, and it is every bit as adorable and hilarious as you might imagine.

While this whole series has always been marketed towards kids (leaving room for adults to enjoy it, of course), I feel like Narwhal's School of Awesomeness is especially relevant for young readers. After all, the focus is something they can very much identify with – school! Yet this school is arguably more entertaining than the land counterpart, as lessons revolve around things such as wafflematics, scavenger hunts, and more.

The thing I love the most about this series is how joyful the characters are. They are always genuinely happy to see one another. It's contagious and will leave any reader feeling happier just for having picked up their book.

A great addition to the Narwhal & Jelly series! When a school of fish disturb a typical day for Narwhal/Jelly they decide to help out as teachers for a day for their new fish friends. Great humor and stellar vocabulary make this book standout in the series! Short stories are always a hit with young readers.

Narwhal and Jelly are at it again! In this installment, they follow a school of fish to, well, school! Unfortunately, class is canceled due to their teacher having a cold. Narwhal can't stand for that, so he decides he will teach the class!

Super cute per usual. I loved our new fish friends and the fact that they all spoke a different language. Kids are going to like this one! Can't wait for more!

Thank you to Ben Clanton, Tundra Books, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the newest edition to the Narwhal and Jelly series. I was very excited for this book because I am a huge fan of the Narwhal and Jelly books.

The illustrations in this book are very adorable and fun. The characters are quirky and enjoyable to read about. It’s hard not to fall in love with the characters in this series. The banter between Narwhal and Jelly is comical and works very well. In this new addition to the series Narwhal decides to become a substitute teacher, with the help of Jelly. The two of them set out to teach a school of fish. They decide to have the class learn about the creatures around them and what makes them unique and special. After a recess they move on to art and together they create a comic. In the end they make a beautiful gift for Mr. Blowfish consisting of the comic they made and warm waffles.

The educational facts are cleverly mixed into the story. There are a lot of lessons to take away from this book. This would make an excellent book for classroom reading.

Summer 2021 (August);
~ Netgalley Arc

Thank you to Ben Claton, Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra Books, and Netgalley for this free arc for an honest review.

Ever since lucking into the first volume of this on Netgalley, I always pick these up if I can as they come out. They are incredibly short, sweet, and always give me a little laugh. They are perfect for young kids and always have some good friendships stories, plus this one adds in school, classmates, learning, and teaching. A delight, recommended to kids as always!

I’ve been a Narwhal and Jelly fan since the beginning and this one did not disappoint (and had a shout out to teachers!). Same great dynamic between the two characters and the secondary fish characters are a great addition!

Absolutely love it, it's just as good as the previous books were. My old son loves this series, he reads it in one sitting and loves the pages of facts.

The story is educational, punny, and full of fun. The illustrations are adorable and eye catching. Highly recommended.

My daughter and I love Narwhal and Jelly books! I also use them in my pre-k classroom. They are great beginning readers. I love the bold and lively drawings. But I also like that there are easy words and more difficult words for the kids to read. This book is perfect for my more advanced readers who are working beyond sight words. Another great addition to the Narwhal and Jelly series.

Narwhal's School of Awesomeness is the 6th book featuring the charming and delightful Narwhal and Jelly written and illustrated by Ben Clanton. Due out 7th Sept 2021 from Penguin Random House Canada, it's 88 pages with easily read text, and will be available in hardcover and audiobook formats. The story is adorable and relatable for kids - what happens when a "school" of fish needs a substitute teacher? Narwhal and Jelly to the rescue, of course! I like that there's an intermission roughly in the middle of the book with a lot of cool factoids about real life fish, birds, waffles (!!) and jellyfish. There's also a couple of page story toward the end of the book (as in the previous books) illustrated in a very different style to differentiate it which reminded me of a similar technique Dav Pilkey uses for cutaway stories inside of his books (as the main characters drawing or telling another story inside the main story).

It's just such an exuberant book. The illustrations are wonderful and the story itself is a lot deeper and more meaningful than the happy bouncy surface would imply. I think this book (and indeed the other books in this series) would make worthwhile reading group or classroom reads for younger readers. The characters are so relatable and real and the fact that they're anthropomorphic makes them more accessible. There are abundant possibilities for many silly voices if reading with a young friend or relative. This would be a great choice for school library acquisition, childminders, school reading circles, families with young kids, and similar situations.

I am a huge fan!

Five stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

We love Narwhal and Jelly, and this book was just as good as the others. These books are great for reluctant readers. My son and I read them and each pretend to be one of the characters. I love the format of these books. There is just enough text but not too challenging. These books would be great for second or third grade students.

Thanks to NetGalley and Tundra for this ARC! "Narwhal's School of Awesomeness" is another winner from the Narwhal series! Colorful illustrations and clever character storylines make it a crowd-pleaser. My son (age 5) wants to read it again and again!

I absolutely love this series and this one does not disappoint. The school of fish is the best part of this story where they give synonyms in each interaction. Great job!

This book’s comedic timing is perfect. Ben deftly balances humor and groan-worthy puns with fascinating science facts, the creative incorporation of synonyms, and the most wholesome game of tag I’ve ever encountered. In short, a delight. And a much-anticipated sequel in my own home.

5/5 waffles

Ben Clanton hits it out of the park once again. I would love to attend Narwhal's School of Awesomeness. This series is a constant delight and such an easy handsell. Highly recommend!

This book was so cute! I love the fish and all of the synonyms they used throughout the book. Who wouldn't want Narwhal and Jelly teaching them cool facts and feeding them waffles. I can't wait to read the next Narwhal and Jelly book!

Now I need to go and eat some waffles.

This new installment in the Narwhal and Jelly series is packed with funny dialogue and activity, off-the-wall silliness, and seamlessly interwoven educational content. In this story, which is partly a tribute to a substitute teacher who inspired the author when he was a child, Narwhal takes on the challenge of substitute-teaching a school of small fish.

The fish are all in sync with each other, and speak together in various synonyms of the same word. The vocabulary alone makes this book educational, and I knew that I was going to give this five stars when I saw the word "indubitably." The fish also learn from Narwhal, gaining new scientific information and mathematical understanding. What Narwhal teaches fits perfectly within the book, instead of feeling like an interruption, and the character interactions are lots of fun.

Other reviewers comment that this book seemed somewhat chaotic to them, but it fits with a young reader's interest and attention span, while also providing new information and challenging words that are very clear in context. This is a great book for fans of the series, kids who are interested in animal-related graphic novels, and kids who like to play school.
