I've enjoyed most of the books in the Country Store Mysteries series and No Grater Crime is a solid addition. I like Robbie and the wide variety of characters that surround her. They really add a lot of color to the world. The mystery aspect of the book wasn't bad, but it also wasn't terribly complicated... at least in terms of the number of suspects. It was quite obvious that it was someone from the family in the new business across the street, but at least there were options and it wasn't glaringly clear. I don't think I ever really felt invested in the mystery in the story, but got more satisfaction out of the advancement of Robbie and Abe's relationship. In the end, it was a good story and one that readers of the series won't want to miss.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Kensington books for my copy of No Grater Crime by Maddie Day in exchange for an honest review. It published August 24, 2021.
Overall, I found this mystery to be an enjoyable one, and I loved that it had recipes. However, I found some of this book to be a little overdone on certain things. Maybe if I went back to the start and read each book in order I would like the characters more.

If you like small-town cozies this is one for you. Robbie is a likable, realistic protagonist who is the owner of a pancake house and vintage cookware store. The secondary characters are interesting in their own rights. The mystery is well-paced with plenty of surprises along the way to the big reveal. I recommend this to cozy mystery fans.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been infuenced by anyone.

Maddie Day is a talented author who infuses her books with passion, love, and mysteries that can take your breath away. Book nine in the “A Country Store Mystery” series, No Grater Crime embodies all of Maddie’s talents in one story. Pans 'N Pancakes, Robbies, cafe, is at the heart of this installment. Readers will enjoy spending more time at the store with the crew and friends while Robbie works to solve a murder.

When a customer dies suspiciously after eating at Pans 'N Pancakes, fingers are pointing directly at Robbie, but she suspects it has something to do with her new neighbors, who also happen to hold a grudge against her aunt. Top that off with finding out that her soon-to-be husband, Abe’s ex is related to the neighbor’s, and she has her hands full and her mind a jumble. The cafe is closed down, there is a thief in their midst, and her wedding is just around the corner. Suspects are quickly identified, but the motive is elusive. You can guarantee there won’t be any dishes at the wedding that contain mushrooms, and hopefully, no murders either.

Readers will enjoy the action in this book and turn the pages eagerly. The characters, including the killer, have issues that can’t be fixed with good food, no matter how much Robbie wishes it could. The relationships throughout this series give readers a sense of family and home, and this addition is no different. Pans 'N Pancakes, Robbie’s cafe, makes you want to find a place just like it and spend time eating and enjoying the community atmosphere every day. The killer is revealed, although their identity does not come as a big surprise after Robbie once again puts herself in peril. Robbie wraps everything up as she and Abe finally walk down the aisle. This is a well-written, engaging mystery that has heart, enjoyment and will make readers hungry. Readers will love No Grater Crime as much as they have the rest of the series, and I, along with other fans, look forward to the next chapter in Robbie’s life.

The only thing I have an issue with is the way the author describes the characters with a mental illness of one kind or another. They are not a nut they are dealing with an illness.

Well done! Another Maddie Day success!!

No Grater Crime has my favorite character Robbie needing to close Pans N Pancakes after a client dies from eating her omelet. And that's not all, weird things have also been happening. Robbie is hot on the case but she better figure it out soon or risk being caught in the middle of a very dangerous situation.

Great storyline with loveable characters makes this cozy a must-read!

Robbie owns pans and pancakes. Which also sells antique or vintage cookware. There has been a bunch of strange occurrences and Robbie cannot seem to figure out what is happening or why. Then take a murder and add it to the mix and the have the recipe for an amazing series. This light hearted cozy will keep you entertained all afternoon. The hijinks and the witty banter makes you want to keep turning the pages . I definitely recommend this series.

4.5 Stars

This is the ninth book in the Country Store mystery series by Maddie Day.

I am a big fan of Maddie Day and this book didn’t disappoint. Strange things were happening in the diner when someone died from bad mushrooms sent from one of Robbie’s distributors. She was definitely on the case to find out who would sabotage her restaurant in such a horrific way.

After her diner is shut down, a food truck with very similar offerings parks out front of her establishment. This causes Robbie to put her detective skills into over drive but first she must discover who is stealing small antiques from her store. It’s a purely fun puzzle you will definitely love.

If you love a cozy mystery, make sure and check this one out.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title. Opinions are completely my own.

In No Grater Crime, the ninth Country Story Mystery, Robbie is up against some competition. The store across the road is opening and it is an antiques store, which will be selling vintage cookware. Not only that, but their daughter runs a food truck which is parking in front of her parent's store and featuring breakfast and lunch, just like Robbie. She isn't too worried as their clientele will be different, but when several people end up with food poisoning after eating mushroom omelettes, with one man dying, she is shut down by the board of health. Robbie knows she did nothing wrong and it was the supplier who sent tainted mushrooms, but can she sort it out and reopen as well as regain her customer's support?

I always enjoy my visits to South Lick, Indiana. Robbie Jordan, her friends, family and staff are always up for a new recipe, meal and mystery. This was an interesting mystery as it made me question, who is responsible if the food is tainted? Is it the supplier or the restaurant? I found that aspect of the story interesting. As always the mystery was well developed. The man who dies was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but was someone trying to sabotage Pans 'N Pancakes. There were a few suspects and red herrings, but I found this one pretty easy to figure out. I always love hearing the dialect used and the folksy sayings, as well as seeing familiar characters. This wasn't my favourite book in this series, but still one I enjoyed.

There is no room for a poisonous shroom at the Pans N Pancakes Country Store, and Robbie isn’t going to sit on her morels while waiting for the Health Department to give her the all clear. There is a complete family of suspects including Abe’s ex-wife who may or may not be so happy about Robbie and Abe’s upcoming nuptials. Plenty of clues and tantalizing meal descriptions, with plenty of back story to keep the mystery moving forward. I am definitely going to make the scones and fritters for a Sunday brunch.

No Grater Crime by Maddie Day is the 9th Book in the Country Store Mystery series. That what I do enjoy the mystery in each book. I mostly continue to read this series to see what the characters are up to. I just love the small town in this book, that is literally right across the river from where I am in Kentucky. So the sitting is easy to picture as I read and the characters have begun to feel like family. And I want to know what happens next in their lives. And I'm also a sucker for mysteries set in a small town.

No Grater Crime: A Country Store Mystery 9
By Maddie Day

Review by Cynthia Chow

As the owner of Pans ‘N Pancakes country store in South Lick, Indiana, Robbie Jordan is always on the lookout for more antique kitchenware to sell within her breakfast and lunch restaurant. It’s brought her to the Scottsburg Antique Fair, and she’s on the hunt to pick up an assortment of vintage graters. While browsing through the outdoor aisles with her Aunt Adele they meet Hattie and Francis Sands, former wholesale food owners who now plan to open their own “high-end” antique store directly across from Pans ‘N Pancakes. Robbie is less worried about the competition than she is about the family’s 23-years-and-15-days-long hatred for Adele, whom they blame for not doing enough to help their son while she was the fire chief. A happier distraction is Robbie’s impending wedding in one month to Abe O’Neill, although everyone seems to have those plans already organized and ready to go. Which is fortunate, considering that a mushroom poisoning in Robbie’s restaurant has them temporarily closed while she worries of either an arrest or lawsuit.

Robbie can’t help but wonder if the poisoning, which tragically proves to be fatal, was more of an attack on her and her business than it was directed towards any customer. The Sands family definitely has a cloud of suspicion around them, as Hattie has a sticky-finger habit while their daughter-in-law pulls up in a food truck intending to sell her KK Sands sandwiches right across the street. Even more disturbing is learning that the Sands’ son operates the food delivery service responsible for the mushrooms, and that his twin sister just happens to be Abe’s ex-wife. It’s all getting a little too intertwined and personal for Robbie, which is why she feels she must discover the truth about the mushroom mix-up in order to prevent it from ever happening again.

This ninth in the series focuses on the core group of Robbie’s loved ones while introducing the very dysfunctional Sands family. The topic of bullying and identity is carefully and thoughtfully drawn into the novel through Teddy Sands and Len Perlman, the latter the brother of Robbie’s bestie Lou. Police Lieutenant Buck Bird seems to assume a lackadaisical pace when investigating, relying on Robbie and her relentless pursuit of clues and suspects to track down the mystery of the mycology murder. Aunt Adele and her own octogenarian boyfriend Samuel MacDonald are a delight with their sharp observations and heated romance, making them relationship goals as Robbie and Abe blend their households. Robbie spends her time ruminating as she mixes pancake batter and preparing surprisingly healthy baked brunch treats, with mouth-watering recipes for Oven-Fried Catfish and Grated Everything Fritters included at the end. Emotional depths are explored as unexpected tragedies occur, but throughout an upbeat tone is maintained through Robbie’s dogged – yet sensible - investigation as she manages her restaurant, out-wits a kleptomaniac, and looks forward to a happily-ever-after walk down the aisle. While the group of suspects may be small, narrowing down the exact one will prove to be the real challenge as Robbie ensures that the Pans ‘N Pancakes doors. That it has taken this long in a mystery series for a restaurant to have been the site of a poisoning is remarkable, but it is worth the wait when it concludes with a satisfying and heart-warming ending.

It's always fun to be back in South Lick with Robbie and the gang at Pans 'N Pancakes! Unfortunately there is an incident at Pans 'N Pancakes involving poison mushrooms, the death of a customer who happened to eat some of the mushrooms, and the health inspector shuts them down. Robbie needs to figure out who sabotaged her breakfast special in order to maintain her restaurant's reputation and keep from losing customers and her livelihood.

Old acquaintances of Aunt Adele's, who are holding a 20-year-old grudge, move across the street from Pans 'N Pancakes and open an antique store, competing with Robbie's sales of vintage cookware. Their daughter Krystal sets up a food truck right outside of the antique store, serving breakfast and lunch which also competes with Robbie's business. Krystal's husband happens to run the food supply business that Robbie uses and, as Robbie begins to put the pieces together, it would seem that a member of this family could quite possibly be the source of the poison mushrooms. There is another twist in the story when Robbie learns that the sister of Krystal's husband is Robbie's fiance Abe's ex-wife Jan. Suspects abound, but who is really responsible for those poison mushrooms and the death of Robbie's customer?

Sharing clues and information with Lieutenant Buck Bird, Robbie and Buck work together to narrow the list of suspects. Unfortunately, another incident with the mushrooms takes a tragic turn and another death occurs before Robbie and Buck solve the crime. They eventually identify and apprehend the individual who provided the poison mushrooms that sabotaged Robbie's business, and more importantly killed two people.

Robbie, Adele, and the crew of South Lick are in true form and in addition to being a great cozy mystery, it keeps you laughing! What a day it would be if you could just sit in Pans 'N Pancakes and eavesdrop on the conversations!

This is a great series - the characters are likeable and realistic and the description of Robbie's and her employees efforts in running the restaurant wear me out just reading about them. I would recommend this book, this series and look forward to book #10 in the Country Store Mystery series.

My rating: 2 of 5 stars, it was okay.

Book 9 in the series.

I love this series, but I really had a hard time getting in to this one. The story line felt a bit convoluted and in the end, I just felt sorry for one of the bad guys for having such an f ed up family, haha. There was a lot going on, and Robbie really had a too stupid to live moment, which annoyed me (Hello, Ted Bundy!) It took a while to get through, since I kept switching to other books instead.

I will keep reading, because I normally enjoy the series, but I could have happily skipped this one.

Robbie is settled in with her life. She's happy with her fiance and her restaurant and country store is doing well. Unfortunately, there are is a new store moving in across the street, one that comes with a breakfast and lunch food truck. When one of Robbie's customers is poisoned after eating an omelet, Robbie is forced to close. She has to find out what happened before she is forced to closed for good.

I adore this series so much! I love Robbie and her family. I love her store and her restaurant (I seriously wish I could go there). This one was so fun! I had such an amazing time reading it. I love Robbie. I like that she cares so much about her future stepson and his feelings. This one was a bit more emotional than normal but it just means that I'm really connected to these characters. I cannot wait to read more from this series!

Dollycas’s Thoughts

There is a new business in South Lick, an antique store right across the street from Robbie Jordan’s Pans ‘N Pancakes. She hopes it won’t cut into her vintage cookware sales. But sales aren’t her problem right now, shoplifting is. While she and her employees were busy serving food someone walked off with a batch of graters she just picked up at the Scottsburg Antique Fair. Robbie knows who the thief is but hesitates to make a scene.

Robbie strives to serve her customers the highest quality of food possible so she is shocked to learn a group of them took ill after eating at her establishment. Worse, one man whose health is already compromised dies. The health department closes Pans ‘N Pancakes down while they investigate. Robbie does her own investigation and figures out the mushrooms were the problem. Her wholesaler delivered poisonous ones and Robbie and her staff had no clue there weren’t the usual variety they typically use. Strange that as soon as Robbie’s business is shut down a food truck pulls up next to the new antique store and starts serving her customers. That is just one too many coincidences for Robbie. She knows who is responsible she just has to prove it.

My mother ran a restaurant similar to Robbie’s so this story really hit home for me. Competition is one thing, sabotage with foodstuffs is completely another. Many businesses wouldn’t be able to come back from such a serious matter. Robbie is blessed to have such a loyal group of customers and friends. As you can see Maddie Day has written a story that hit me at an emotional level which she continues to do time and time again.

The mystery is more complicated than complex. The suspects are a small pool and it is just a matter of pinning the right person down. They all had the opportunity but true motives were unclear. Robbie withheld the theft of the graters from Lieutenant Buck Bird who eats most of her menu every time he sets foot in the place. That may have ruffled some feathers earlier in the book and changed the outcome. I was just surprised she didn’t tell him right away. I did enjoy following all the clues though. I was on the right track but a left turn changed everything near the conclusion of the mystery.

I love that this series is set in the Midwest and the characters ring true to almost everyone right out my front door. I have sincerely enjoyed Robbie and the rest of the characters from the start of the series. They continue to grow and new members of the supporting cast are added in each book along the way. In fact, Robbie is engaged to be married to a man with a teenage son. Robbie has nurtured a relationship with the young man and that becomes very important in this story. I really admire the way the author has treated these characters and the way these relationships grew over several stories. It feels natural and is really heartwarming. It also sets up a fantastic ending.

No Grater Crime is filled with wonderful characters and delicious food. I am not a mushroom eater so now kitchen sink omelet for me though. Each visit to South Lick seems to end too soon. I can hardly wait for Batter Off Dead to be released in February 2022.

I love the characters & the mystery. However I think MS Day should replace some if her words she uses to describe people suffering with mental illness. They are not nuts they dealing with an illness. As a mental health advocate this part of the book bothered me. Education is the key and it seems none was done here. Otherwise, it would have been a good book.

No Grater Crime by Maddie Day is book nine in the A Country Store Mystery series. I have read the entire series and have never been disappointed. This one can be read as a stand alone.
When poison mushrooms find their way into a breakfast special at Robbie's restaurant, Robbie is once again in the middle of an investigation. Who planted them in her order, the owner of a new food truck or Abe's ex. She needs to get to the bottom of it before she is next. Throw in she is planning her and Abe's wedding and her plate is overflowing.
There are suspects galore in this easy to read Cozy. You also have romance, humor, great characters, and a loveable cat.
Recipes are included.
I was given an ARC by Kensington via NetGalley for an honest review.

When someone dies from poisoned mushrooms in her diner, Robbie cannot believe it. She is also so cautious and careful about her food. She tries to discover whether her vendor made the mistake or if someone is out to cause her grief. When Robbie discovers the supplier is the son-in-law of someone who has a long-term vendetta against her aunt Adele, she is sure the poisoned mushrooms were deliberate. This is a very enjoyable series especially for the portrayal of life in a small town. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
