This book was sent to me by Netgalley on Kindle for review…the time periods annoy me in books…present past…I prefer those that remain in. one period…present or past…not going back and forth…I often have to go back to make sure in which period I am reading…. That being said, there is intrigue and mystery while determining what will happen next…the characters are most those characters…they don’t seem to come alive in the story…not someone I might have known…however, the story is intriguing.

I loved it! This story really got under my skin and I still can't shake it off. This is an amazing writer. I was immediately involved in the lives of these friends and though there is a mystery or two they aren't actually trying to find those answers at all. The events cause turmoil in their past and present and how it plays out was riveting. Excellent book.

I absolutely love Lisa Lutz. This book is no exception and extremely fast paced thriller. I really identified with a lot of the characters and I just really was interested in reading this in finding out what happened. I highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read one other Lisa Lutz book: The Swallows. The theme of bad kids acting out was a stretch for me but in this world, I find that real life is weirder than stories authors make up. I found Ms. Lutz writing engaging.
So was willing to give The Accomplice a go.

This is a story of best friends, Luna and Owen, who meet in High School and the book takes them into their late thirties. As we read about the growing friendship, more and more of their histories are revealed making them the people that they are.
My school days were extremely innocent compared to these people and their circle of friends. But much was believable. Once again, I probably would not have picked up this book on my own but I am glad that I read it. Ms. Lutz is a good writer, a good storyteller, has quite an imagination, and is able to put all that onto the page.

So I recommend this book to people who like knowing how trauma affects a person and their everyday life.
To anyone who likes twists and turns and just a very good yarn.

Luna and Owen--inseparable friends since college. But what binds them is so much deeper than the surface friendships we all acquired there. Going back and forth in time from 2004 to 2019, we see what formed their friendship, what cracked it, and what remains of it now after Owen's wife is discovered murdered. I felt like I was in a dryer, tumbling around without a clue about what was happening--but I loved every minute of it. Two murders, years apart and we get "hints" of what happened but of course, never the full story until the end. Love Lisa Lutz's books so I was in for the full thrill ride! Enjoy!

I am a long-time fan of Lisa Lutz's books, and this definitely will appeal to anyone who has enjoyed her previous books! THE ACCOMPLICE is well-plotted with quirky but believable characters, and wrestles with questions about culpability and what makes someone "good" or "bad" in a page-turning way.

"The Accomplice" was an interesting and somewhat unusual story. Owen and Luna developed an unusual but lasting friendship in college. Years later they live in the same town, see each other regularly, confide in each other, and have a closer relationship with each other than with their respective spouses. Early in the story, Luna finds Owen’s wife, Irene, dead; she was murdered while out jogging. The story alternates between the investigation into her death and the earlier history of Owen and Luna, which is pertinent to the investigation. They both have significant secrets. There is also a history of them being connected to the deaths of others.

The book focuses on the power and problems that secrets can cause. Luna, Owen, and other characters have secrets. None of the secrets are as bad as the person(s) holding the secret believes. However, because the information is secret, and because of things certain characters say or do, and because of what certain characters think other characters know, people make incorrect assumptions, some of which prove considerably costly.

The author does a good job of keeping up the suspense regarding the various secrets and portraying how and why certain characters believe what they believe and behave the way they do towards each other. The characters are creative and eclectic. I like that the author creates depth for some of the more minor characters.

I received a copy of the e-book via NetGalley in exchange for a review.

This story was very twisty and confusing but I loved it! Unlikely best friends joined at the hip always surrounded by drama and mayhem, suspected of murder multiple times. Are they guilty, innocent, or something in between? Great story and the author makes the characters come alive. I wish the ending wasn’t so abrupt, but everything basically had closure. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my free arc in exchange for my honest opinion!

This is a great well written mystery novel. Characters have both depth and are interesting. Lots of suspense and twists and turns makes it a must read, highly recommend!

I think so far this is the best book the author has written. I liked the character driven, intense, mind numbing, twisty, intriguing plot! I loved devoted- obsessed- peculiar relationship between Owen and Luna!

I don’t know the main reason why they are drawn to each other like magnets. They never date. They never have sexual desire for each other which contradicts with “When Harry met Sally” theory. But interestingly, they never have fulfilled relationships with other people. Owen always keen on keeping things open as Luna has asocial, introvert, weird tendencies but when you find out the reasons behind it, you understand her actions completely. They’re each other’s person like Christina Yang and Meredith Grey :)

We’re moving back and forth between 2003 - the time: Luna met Owen at college and October 2019- when Owen’s wife Iris found that by Luna and chaotic investigation completely starts to ruin their lives.

In 2003 after a few minutes later, Luna and Owen met in the library, Luna collapses on the floor, having a seizure. Owen helps her not to bite her tongue, calling the ambulance but as soon as Luna recovers, she literally gets scared from the involvement of the authorities, beginning to run. As their friendship blossoms, Owen realizes Luna always keeps to herself and looks behind her shoulder, getting threat letters.

What’s this horrifying secret Luna hiding from everyone? Not actually everyone: their mutual friend-pot provider Mason already knows who she is but he keeps his mouth shut. What happens if someone learns and tells the people?

When the danger of revealing her identity occurs, something really bad happens. Does this incident in the past and Owen’s wife death connected? Are they unlucky people who bring bad luck to people around them? Or one of them is cold blooded killer?

The writing style is impeccably fascinating. Each chapter from different timelines end with semi-cliffhangers. You cannot decide which one you should read first!

So exciting, so smart, so riveting and absolutely unputdownable!
I highly recommend it to psychological thriller lovers like me! I couldn’t put it down till the end!

Thought provoking. Excellent.
Owen Mann is charming, privileged, and chronically dissatisfied. Luna Grey is secretive, cautious, and pragmatic. Despite their differences, they begin forming a bond the moment they meet in college. Their names soon become indivisible—Owen and Luna, Luna and Owen—and stay that way even after an unexplained death rocks their social circle.
Years later, they’re still best friends when Luna finds Owen’s wife brutally murdered. The police investigation sheds some light on long-hidden secrets, but it can’t penetrate the wall of mystery that surrounds Owen. To get to the heart of what happened and why, Luna has to dig up the one secret she’s spent her whole life burying.
The Accomplice examines the bonds of shared history, what it costs to break them, and what happens when you start wondering if you ever truly knew the only person who truly knows you.
