Corrie Ten Boom very easily could have spent her life full of bitterness and revenge, but she didn’t. Because she didn’t, we can all benefit from the lessons she learned and then shared with us in her memoir, The Hiding Place, and other books. Corrie and her sister Betsie spent a year in two different concentration camps for hiding Jews in their home in the Netherlands.

God is My Hiding Place is a devotional created with a selection of Ten Boom’s writings. It breaks down her thoughts into thought-provoking excerpts that are followed by a prayer that can be personalized for any reader.

Ten Boom takes hurt, unforgiveness, bitterness, and heartbreak and turns it all on its head. She urges Christians to look beyond the incident that hurt them, beyond the outward appearances of situations and people. She asks them to look deeper, to understand more fully why a person acts the way they have, why a situation unfolded the way it did, and in everything how God can use the good and the bad.

There is only a small selection of very special people who can touch the world with their message and Ten Boom is one of them. Personally, I first heard of her as a child when I read a comic book version of The Hiding Place. Her story affected me deeply then and it continues to affect me in the same, deep and visceral way. I would recommend this devotional to anyone as much as I would recommend The Hiding Place.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.

Solid study that was really easy to follow along! I found this to be uplifting and encouraging as well, which is sometimes lacking in studies, I find.

The recently released devotional, 'God Is My Hiding Place,' joins the ranks of the ever-popular thirty- to forty-day devotional gift books. Within its pages, you'll discover forty carefully curated selections from the writings of the late Corrie ten Boom, whose family displayed remarkable courage during World War II, risking and, in some cases, sacrificing their lives to save Dutch Jews from the Holocaust.

Each selection thoughtfully commences with a Bible verse and concludes with a brief prayer thoughtfully composed by the editors. While, in my view, it doesn't seamlessly blend together into a single, cohesive literary work as effectively as a recent comparable book, 'The Heart of God' by Elisabeth Elliot, this is somewhat expected in a collection of excerpts. Elliot's work was intentionally crafted as a devotional from the outset, unlike this compilation.

Nonetheless, 'God Is My Hiding Place' presents a lovely and inspiring glimpse into the life and storytelling of 'Tante Corrie.' For those new to her remarkable journey, I trust that this book will kindle a desire to delve deeper, beginning with her most renowned memoir, 'The Hiding Place.' As for those already acquainted with her story, you'll encounter cherished passages within these pages, along with numerous vignettes from her life post-war and her decades as a self-described 'tramp for the Lord.' These daily readings predominantly share anecdotes from her incredible journey with God across the globe. Corrie wasn't merely a Bible teacher; she was an inspirational speaker with an extraordinary Christian testimony.

Corrie was a bearer of hope and unwavering trust in the Lord, regardless of one's circumstances. This book serves as an incredibly uplifting and reassuring read.

The devotional is a reminder that no matter how deep the pit of despair, God's love is deeper still.
The book is well-written and easy to understand. Each devotional is short and to the point, making it perfect for daily reading. The author's personal stories and insights make the book relatable and engaging. It is a book that will encourage readers to hold fast to their faith and find strength in God's love.
I highly recommend "God Is My Hiding Place" to anyone looking for a daily devotional that will inspire and encourage them in their faith journey. God is my Hiding Place was such a delightful collection filled with the wisdom of Corrie Ten Boom. Before this book, I knew somewhat of her story, but didn’t realize all she did and went through. Her story is inspiring and I found this book to be fascinating and encouraging.

Each devotional is only a few pages long and are excerpts from her writings and other books. A short and sweet little prayer is included at the end of each one. The format of this book makes it easy to be a one-a-day devotional or to read multiple days in one sitting.

This is a book that will make you think. It is a reminder that life may be hard but God is still good. I really enjoyed reading through God is My Hiding Place and could definitely see myself rereading this little collection in the future!

The new devotional, God Is My Hiding Place, is one of the newest additions to the popular genre of thirty- to forty-day devotional gift books. It comprises forty selections from the writings of the late Corrie ten Boom, whose family risked (and in several cases lost) their lives in order to rescue Dutch Jews from the Holocaust during World War II.

Each selection begins with a Bible verse and ends with a short prayer composed by the editors. To my taste, it does not meld together as a unified literary work as well as the similar recent book The Heart of God by Elisabeth Elliot, but that is perhaps to be expected in a collection of excerpts (as opposed to Elliot’s manuscript that was written with the intention of becoming this kind of devotional). That said, God Is My Hiding Place offers a lovely and encouraging sampling of “Tante Corrie’s” life and storytelling.

For readers new to her story, I hope that it piques their interest to read more, starting with her most well-known memoir, The Hiding Place. Readers already familiar with that story will find some favorite bits in these pages but also many vignettes from her life after the war and Ravensbruck, the decades she called herself a “tramp for the Lord.” The daily readings are generally tales from her journey with God all over the world. She was less a Bible teacher than an inspirational speaker with a remarkable Christian testimony.

Corrie was a messenger of hope and trust in the Lord, no matter one’s circumstances. This is a very encouraging and reassuring read. I shared some with my mother, who no longer remembers Corrie’s story, and she pronounced it the perfect length for a bit of morning encouragement. I strongly recommend the hardcover instead of the eBook in this case.

Wow, fantastic read. This small book is rich in wisdom and has inspiring words to comfort you. I have never read a book written by Corrie Ten Boom, this is my first book of hers. Corrie ten boom was a prisoner of the Gestapo, as Adolf Hitler was preparing to kill the lives of Jewish people in Holland. Her family, friends saved and helped them escape to safer countries. They hid the Jewish people in their houses supplying their desperate needs, food, clothing, houses, burials through a group of eighty people.

Corrie ten boom was betrayed and arrested. Her 84 years old father, all his children and grandson were also incarcerated. Corrie ten, in this book writes in this book that our lives, no matter how difficult the circumstances, are in God's mercy. No one is exempt. It isn't our duty to understand or to shift blame. It is our responsibility to, keep our hearts clean, to walk in God's compassion and to use our lives to help others. If it takes us to graves, at least we will go there knowing we have done God's will, and there will forever be hidden in his glory.

This book teaches the reader how important bible reading and prayer is. The book of Revelation tells us that none of our prayer is lost. They are kept in heaven, important in God's eyes. "The bible teaches us a mystery. When Jesus died on the cross, God laid on him the guilt of the whole world. Jesus was willing to bear that terrible death to our sins, our guilt. Bring your sins and guilt to Jesus, and he will forgive you. Then he will fill you with Holy Spirit whose fruit is peace, joy and love. When you are filled with his spirit, you will be able to think of of your family with peace and joy, instead of guilt and shame."

I enjoyed in one of the chapters Corrie mentioned in this book, about the story of the lost sheep? A shepherd had one hundred sheep. When one was lost, he left the 99 and went to look for it. He found it carried it home on his shoulders. Corrie also mentions, How worldly knowledge can be dangerous, that we live in a age when one of the signs of the end times that Daniel gave is becoming clear, knowledge is increasing exponentially, earthly wisdom is not wrong. It is a gift from god when used for his glory. God's word tells us that we are more than conquerors, poor, hated, hungry. We are more than conquerors. I also found this book very useful as it teaches how prayer is powerful. The devil smiles when we make plans. He laughs when we get too busy. But he trembles when we pray. The enemy does not want us to pray because prayer draws us close to God, we are already victorious!

There are 40 daily devotions with prayer and scripture reading in this book. This book has been an eye opener and inspiring to me. It helps the readers daily bible and prayer reading plans.

God is My Hiding Place: 40 Devotions for Refuge and Strength, by Corrie ten Boom is an exceptional, short series of daily readings that are punctuated by Scripture with anecdotes from Corrie’s life. Corrie ten Boom’s life was characterized by hardship, but also relentless faith. She pursued God and walked with Him even amidst the most horrific circumstances.

As a prisoner of war and concentration survivor from World War 2, she knows what it’s like to suffer, grieve, and endure the unimaginable. But she did so with a simple, pure, tenacious faith and she shares her stories with us a generation later. I am so grateful for her insights, inspiration and encouragement! This will be a devotion I will read again.

Funny how some things work. I just finished reading The Hiding Place and moved right in to reading this devotional. Corrie ten Boom's presence is still there just as if she was sitting right here in this room. My favorite line, besides scripture, is "Our presence in dark situations blesses our surroundings." Such an uplifting book that helps you when you need that extra boost or reminder that God is still good and He is still there, no matter the circumstances going on in our lives. Loved it!

This moving 40 day devotional begins each day with a scripture followed by writings of Corrie ten Boom and closes with a prayer. She speaks of her faith in what God has done in her life and can do again and again in all of our lives.

As I read each day, I am brought to tears at the evidence of the hand of Jesus over the circumstances in which she found herself. She found the Lord-with her, providing for her, protecting her, guiding her, reminding her. He asks her to believe and not worry, for when you do you “carry tomorrow’s load with today’s strength.”

She shares how Jesus taught her to forgive even the hardest to forgive, that He is the hiding place in every desperate and seemingly hopeless situation, that it is impossible to listen to the Lord’s voice when we are listening to our own fear, that no matter how difficult the circumstances our lives are in God’s hands, that Jesus has conquered our shame and guilt on the cross, that the many prayers prayed for the person that needs the Lord are kept safe in heaven-not one is lost, and that we must not give up and give those prayers over to unbelief, for faith must receive the answer even when we do not understand His ways.

This devotional would be a good choice for those in prison since some of the experiences of Corrie ten Boom include those while she and her sister are imprisoned. This book is suitable for teens and older. I received this book from the author/publisher free of charge, with no expectation of a positive review.

When I selected “God is my Hiding Place: 40 Devotions for Refuge and Strength” to read on NetGalley, I had no idea this book would become a lifeline for me days later when my beloved mother was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

During a week-long stay in the ICU, sitting at my mom’s bedside surrounded by countless machines that frayed my already threadbare nerves with incessant hums and jarring beeps, I felt utterly helpless. Too scared to sleep, too exhausted to read. I couldn’t focus on a fictional story, my usual source of escape in times of stress. But I could manage to read the short devotions contained in this book.

I could read a devotion before the nurse came to check mom’s blood pressure.
I could read a devotion after answering the doctor’s many questions.
I could read a devotion as I tried to eat a granola bar for dinner.
I could read a devotion at 4am when it felt like morning would never come.

Reading these short, yet poignant, devotions penned by Corrie ten Boom helped me get through those long days and longer nights in the hospital. Her words gave me perspective and guided me to the refuge of Jesus Christ. His Word gave me a hope to cling to when all hope felt lost. His Presence was my sustaining strength when I had none.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own honest opinion.

I have loved Corrie Ten Boom since I was a child and read her book, The Hiding Place, so I was especially excited to get to read this devotional based on Corrie's writing. This is a 40 day devotional with bible verses, prayers and a short story of an even that occurred in her life related to the Bible verse. There are stories from Corrie's time at Ravensbruck as well as devotions about her life before and after her time in the concentration camp and how God's love and her faith got her through some of the worst times of her life.
I would like to thank #NetGalley, #BakerPublishingGroup and #ChosenBooks for the opportunity to read and review this wonderful devotional. I would recommend it highly and plan to purchase a hard copy for myself to reread in the future.
