This is a great historical fiction if you’re looking for something TOTALLY different than any other WW read. Harmel delivers another unique WW2 story, with a strong heroine and an undiscovered setting. Great descriptions of both nature & human emotion- both of which are highlighted by the narration in the audiobook.

This is a BEAUTIFUL book, certainly will wind up being one of my favorites of 2021. Moving, powerful, surprising, the protagonist, Yona, is an unforgettable heroine. Audio narration was excellent. Any fan of historical fiction will love this book. Best description: it’s The Nightingale meets Where the Crawdads Sing, and definitely in the caliber of both those titles!

Kristen Harmel is the Queen of Historical Fiction. Nobody does it better. This fabulous novel serves two purposes - it teaches as well as entertains. I experienced so many raw emotions while listening to this engrossing novel. The narration deserves 5 stars.

What an incredible story! This reminded me of a combination of a few stories: The Lost Apothecary, The Nightingale and The Invisible Life of Addie Larue. If you love those books, I think you'll love this one. This is such a deep and inspiring book on survival, love and grief. The characters were so complex, and felt very much real in the moment. The narration is so lovely.
