A great read with a combination of suspense and great writing. I would advise all who like any of the mystery/suspense novels and general reading categories to read and enjoy!

Keep Me Close by Jane Holland kept me up at night waiting to see what would happen next! Kate is trying to care for her mother whose dementia seems to be getting worse by the day. She has unexplained bruises and tries to say it was just an accident. Kate begins to wonder who would want to hurt her mother and why. How far will you go to protect someone you love? Highly recommend

A story about a dementia sufferer is never going to be an easy subject. I didnt like Kate's character and guessed who the guilty party was. This was an OK read. Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read an ARC

This was a delightful mystery, romance and entertaining read. Kate Kinsley works in the publishing industry and gets handed the firm's biggest client who is also a playboy. She also has her hands full providing care for her dementia ridden mother and we meet the home providers with their own tales. Kate is not lucky in love and reeling from other losses in her personal life. She feels someone is hiding on their property from time to time coupled with threatening notes she is receiving on occasion. A well written and a book that holds your interest.

Firstly, thank you to the publishers and the tour host for inviting me to be part of this tour.

This book tells the story of Kate and her mother. Her mother has dementia and she is quickly deteriorating.

There were some amazing characters in this book. It was full of twists and turns. Due to the book being sent late to me, I did read this book very fast to be able to make the review tonight.
However, I did find it hard to put it down as a whole
I really enjoyed the storyline and was shocked in some places

Caring for a parent with dementia is never easy. Kate has had a number of people taking care of her mother who is rapidly deteriorating. After her longtime care giver disappears, Kate is pleased to find Ruby. She is the perfect answer and is given a room in the house to help compensate for the many hours she spends with Kates’ mom.

Kate desperately works to keep her mother at home and under loving care and protection. Logan is a handsome suitor and Kate allows herself to date. A solicitor clouds the care issue because he is “her mothers’” solicitor and not hers. The relationship clouds the overall tension and Kate’s good intensions.

The main character is portrayed as a very tenuous personality whose relationships are always under scrutiny. Her boss is a true self-centered narcissist who does not like women.

I enjoyed the novel but got a little tired of Kate’s inability to stand up for herself. She also tends to procrastinate in reporting events that scare and concern her. Rather than report the abuse of her mother to the police she hesitates because she feels that they will think she is the perpetrator. Wallowing in self doubt and letting others push her around got a bit tiresome and allowed some interest to wane. 4 stars - CE Williams

As soon as I read that the main character of this book was working in publishing I was in!

Kate's mother has dementia and her condition is reclining quickly. Kate already lost a boyfriend who commited suicide a couple of years ago and has just started dating again.
Since her mother's carer quits, she has to find some help around the house. But since the new caregiver arrived her mother even starts being more afraid. Who wants to harm Kate and her family?
We are about to discover in this chilling read!

Thanks #Netgalley #Lume Books for this ARC

A simple but very basic mistake made Kate's life a devastating turmoil that could even have had cost her everything. That is a relatable situation that could happen to any of us when under pressure and being the main responsible for caring for someone who is family and sick. On top of that, she had her career stress, intrigue, misleading information, deceit, and a new romantic relationship that led to a most unfortunate situation. A very good plot, well written, resulting in an entertaining story.

While this book wasn’t dull or slow, I found it to be predictable and it was hard to connect to Kate. My biggest pet peeve with characters is when they are gullible or naive and unfortunately it was how I perceived Kate. Maybe because the ending was predictable to me, I didn’t find it as suspenseful as it could have been BUT it was a good enough story that I wanted to continue to read it to see how it played it.

I definitely will read more by Jane Holland and I would recommend this book to my friends.

Kate's mother is suffering from dementia, but Kate is determined to keep her at home with a caregiver while she works as a publisher. Her normal caregiver doesn't show up and she quickly hires someone else. Logan an old friend wants to have a relationship with Kate. She starts to get threatening letters from her deceased boyfriend and her mother is showing signs of abuse. This story quickly escalates where everyone is a suspect and in danager.

My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Lume Books for the electronic copy.

Well, this is indeed a chilling psychological thriller - thoroughly enjoyed it! It is cleverly plotted with the narrative only gradually revealing the back-story, leading up to a heart-wrenching conclusion. Well-written with believable dialogue moving the story along with malevolent twists inserted for mis-direction.

The story centres around publisher Kate Kinley who has virtually given up her life to the care of her (relatively young) mother who is suffering from early onset dementia. The family home is large and in the leafy suburbs of Guildford. Kate has negotiated working between the home and her office in London, having Georgios as a carer for her mother Celeste when she has to go into work.
Kate has experienced tragic family events over the years, including the death of her boyfriend: she's also experiencing the unwanted attentions of her boss who strategically choses to ignore Kate's home situation and her work life becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.
Of course, her mother is unpredictable but, having arranged for Georgios to sit with Celeste while she has dinner with an old friend, Logan, the carer doesn't arrive and she's forced to resort to using a Ruby Chambers.
With no further sign of Georgios Ruth becomes Celeste's carer and subsequently becomes a live-in.

Then....... Celeste begins to present some bruising and signs of abuse. At the same time Kate receives poison pen letters blaming her for her boyfriend's death. Additionally Kate's wary of the family solicitor who seems intent on talking to Celeste alone.
Who's abusing her mother? Who can she trust? Someone is watching her.....................

This is twisty and sinister - Kate's between a rock and a hard place - if she reports the abuse and her suspicions she risks Celeste being taken into care against her wishes - if she doesn't she could look culpable.

As said, I thoroughly enjoyed it: I think the finale left just a little to be desired - perhaps just a tweak to the antagonist would make the difference, but it's still an absorbing read.

I’d like to thank Lume Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Keep Me Close’ by Jane Holland in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Kate’s mother has early onset dementia and employs Giorgios to care for her when she’s working but when Giorgios doesn’t arrive for work in desperation she turns to a flyer that’s been put through her letter box. She rings Ruby Chambers who soon makes herself indispensable and moves into their house so she’s close at hand. When Kate notices bruising on her mother’s arms she told it’s nothing, just clumsiness, but she begins to suspect those closest to her. When the injuries escalate Kate doesn’t know who can she trust.

‘Keep Me Close’ is a gripping and very disturbing thriller with a chilling plot, intriguing characters and a storyline so sinister that I couldn’t decide who to trust. I liked the character of Kate who naïvely let herself be taken advantage of in a difficult situation and I kept hoping she’d install a video camera. The subject matter at the forefront of this thriller, abuse of the elderly, dementia and vulnerability, were handled sympathetically with great sensitivity and care, and I became so involved in what was happening that I couldn’t stop reading. It contains something to capture everyone’s imagination, suspense, drama and twists and turns, and the conclusion was so exciting that it had me on the edge of my seat. This thriller is compulsive reading and I can definitely recommend it.

# Keep Me Close # Netgalley.
Thank you to Netgalley and lume books for giving me the pleasure of reading this book before publishing date. This is my own personal opinion of the book and mine alone. Well it was a interesting book that I felt was medium paced with just enough to keep me ticking over and not becoming bored. I can’t say it actually gripped me that I could not put it down because it didn’t. I certainly didn’t like it someone was miss treating Celeste having onset of dementia. The author I felt got that across in a good way about someone bursting her. From right from the beginning I did not like Ruby’s character. I felt the author had done a exceptional job of describing Ruby as someone not to trust. Although it wasn’t said I picked up something wasn’t quite right. It could have been going round. Giving people powers they di not pisses. I did think Logan and Kate were rushing into something when logonn as Kate to marry him. I know they say once you know you know. Overall a decent story line. It would have been a lot more believable if there was actually a reason Celeste to be hurt. Sorry don’t buy it just because Ruby had fallen I love with David. Seemed a bit ludicrous reason to actually go for someone behind knew kates mother than Rachael to try to take on the authority,s not someone who just. Fell in love with him. Also to keep riding around. Blaming Kate just didnt feel like it was acadiquate resin to go to all the trouble she did. Still not a bad read

Kate Kinley is struggling with work and home. Her mother has early onset dementia and needs constant supervision, but she’s still getting bruises, what or who is causing them? Kate finds her life spiralling out of control. Who can she trust? A real page turner.

Keep Me Close was a great suspenseful thriller, that was hard to put down! Kate Kinley is incredibly hardworking both at her job at a successful publishing house, and taking care of her mother who is suffering from early onset dementia. However, taking care of her mother is taking its toll. When Kate discovers odd bruises on her mother’s arms, she starts to question those closest to her. Is someone really hurting her mother, or are they just accidents like her mother insists? How far would you go to help the person you love most?

Keep Me Close was such a captivating read right from the start. There are questionable characters that leave you wondering throughout the whole story. Kate is a relatable character who is struggling to offer the best care for her mother, stay afloat in her publishing career, and dealing with her own personal grief from losing her boyfriend, father and brother.

My only drawback would be that I found some characters undeveloped when it comes to their backstories and/or could not emotionally invest in them as I would have liked.

Description
Someone is hurting the most vulnerable person in your life, but they can’t tell you who it is. What would you do?

Kate's mother suffers from dementia and when her regular carer lets her down she hires Ruby. Her mother soon takes to Ruby and Kate is relieved as it allows her to start a relationship with Logan. However when Kate discovers bruises on her Mums arms she starts to suspect everyone in the house

I'm sorry to say this book could have been so much better. As the reader it was very easy to see what was happening, even if we don't know why, but Kate seemed to walk around in a fog blaming everyone except the perpetrator.

Even when you reach the end the reason behind the abuse is quite weak.
Thanks to Netgalley and Lume publishers for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review
