A sturdy collection of short stories, with a not a lot of connecting tissue themewise, I found. Most stories are average, a few are clunkers.

I don’t know what I was expecting when I first heard of this book, but it wasn’t this. I appreciate how unique the short stories are, and it seems like they capture the essence of living through these unprecedented times, especially during a life transition. I enjoyed it!

I found this anthology of stories to be unique and interesting. It is fascinating how each author explores the subject and creates something original that resonates strongly regarding the issues and expounds upon them. I am a fan of story collections and this one did not disappoint. Thanks for the ARC, NetGalley.

Anthologies with short stories have grown on me. So when I found 'The Opposite of Disappearing' on Netgalley, I was immediately drawn to it - and it has not disappointed.

Fourteen short stories, and they all had a common ground: people feeling completely alone, and finding each other or at least themselves. Some of the stories were better or at least more relatable than others, but they all felt well rounded and finished. It is a completely common occurrence in anthologies like this that at least one story would have worked better as a full novel, but not here.

This was an interesting collection of short stories. I always enjoy Australian voices and this did not disappoint. They were heavy and deep but still hopeful. Relatable, with some different perspectives.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an eARC of The Opposite of Disappearing in exchange for an honest review.

It's always tricky to rate anthologies by different authors because you'll inevitably like and dislike different stories in different ways, but all in all there wasn't really a story I disliked in The Opposite of Disappearing. Some of them were definitely more on the meh side, but these were all in all really well done, introspective stories. I actually think I liked the stories I'm not supposed to like the most the most (the middle of this was a highlight for me and anthologies are normally structured with strong openings and conclusions) and I'm glad I got the opportunity to read them.

It can be difficult to rate a book like this because the stories and styles are all so different. Overall, I enjoyed the stories, though I did forget what the theme was about halfway through.

I didn't find myself not liking any of the stories and wished some of the ones I did enjoy were longer.

I'm a huge fan of anthologies and The Opposite of Disappearing is an excellent collection of short stories that explore resilience, connectivity, grief and more importantly life. All fourteen short stories are compelling examinations of human nature and this compilation is riveting.
