This is an opposites attract romance of revenge that will pull on your heartstrings.
Cooper is a local in a college town where the young rich “clones” run rampant and he and his twin brother and their friends despise them all and what they stand for. When one clone goes too far and gets Cooper fired from his job, he is determined to make the entitled pretty boy pay.
Mackenzie is starting college at her parents’ behest after a gap year where she started her own company. All she wants is to be working on her brand, but at least she is finally able to be with her boyfriend, who also attends. They have been together for years and he is her rock.
Mackenzie meets Cooper and, unbeknownst to her and his vendetta against her boyfriend, strike up a friendship. But she quickly finds herself feeling more than friendly feelings for the sexy local bad boy. Things are falling into place in Cooper’s plan until he realizes that she isn’t just another clone. But will his genuine feelings for her matter when it all comes out that she was just a means to an end?
This was such a great build up to the inevitable heartbreak! Elle Kennedy can really write a budding romance and she did a phenomenal job portraying realistic infidelity. I loved the dynamic of Cooper’s friend group and how it affected his and Mac’s relationship. I liked how independent Mackenzie was and how sweet and sassy the banter between them was.

It has been awhile since I have dived into an Elle Kennedy book so when I saw the announcement for Good Girl Complex, I was intrigued by the synopsis and trope.
Although I enjoyed the story of Mac and Cooper as well as the secondary characters, I felt like at times parts of the story fell a little flat. Some of the issues at hand just were brushed over or quickly resolved. Part of this could be because we may be seeing more insight to some of these issues with secondary characters in their own books. For example: Preston’s character as a whole. The way that he is presented at the beginning of the book doesn’t live up to some of the interactions we see throughout the book. (Trying to be as vague here without giving spoilers.)
Mac’s character was probably one of my favorites in term of her strong will and that in a sense she was self made. She was determined and wouldn’t back down from a fight. I love that she didn’t live up to the typical rich girl and refused to fall into what her parents wanted her to do or be.
“It’s some kind of twisted foreplay. Bickering about puppy names as a form of flirting, every escalation another piece of clothing we’re daring the other to remove in a metaphorical game of strip poker. It’s gotten to be too much. I can’t stop myself, though. Every time he texts me, I say this will be the last time, then I hold my breath, type a reply, hit send, and wait for my next fix.”
Mac and Cooper I would say almost have an instant attraction to one another from the very beginning. Though they both fought it, the magnetism they had towards one another couldn’t be beat. A lot had to do with Mac and Cooper being very similar to one another. Most of the arguments you see is because they were pushing for the best for each other, in their own ways.
Overall, Good Girl Complex is not my favorite book by Elle Kennedy but I would still recommend the book to fans of Elle’s writing.

4.5 ⭐️
🌶/🌶🌶🌶🌶
i really like the book it’s really good but I felt like the ending was a rush, that why I give it 4.5⭐️ but in general the book is good and I love it, cooper holds a special place in book boyfriend list and Mackenzie too.
I’ll write a longer review when the release date approaches.

It's hard to talk about what I didn't like without giving away spoilers. This book was a whole lot of mess. Not with the writing which is what saves the books but everyone is a mess. Mackenzie starts off cold but you eventually warm up to her and realize that every person in this book is mean to her. Not until the very end do they somewhat become nice. Only after she bends over backwards for everyone. I wanted more character development but what drives this book is the drama between the townies and the local rich clones. It escalates to a point where a revenge plot is thought of and of course brings with it a whole set of repercussions for our MC, Cooper. I wanted more from him in his redemption as well as his development. It was there but these two spent the entire book fighting. Opposites attract but I also need to see some relationship work as well. It was still a nice beach read with lots of complex emotions but not my favorite of hers.

I adored this book!! With the same mixture of romance, steaminess, feminism, and honesty that you expect from an Elle Kennedy novel, Good Girl Complex also brought the delightful energy of a small-town story. Slightly reminiscent of a Nicholas Spark's novel but with more social awareness (and better sex scenes!). What I love about this book (and all of Elle Kennedy's books) is the agency and power of her female characters, and the sensitivity and depth of her male characters. I will most definitely be screaming about this book to anyone who will listen!

For being such a big name in romance, Elle Kennedy has delivered a very mediocre, done before over-and-over again college romance that could be found with SO MANY Kindle Unlimited books. In my humble opinion, given her massive success Elle definitely has the room to take more risks, deliver books that have a quality above the average, and it's very disappointing to me that this book has nothing new or interesting to offer.

I want to preface this review by saying maybe I am no longer the target audience for Elle Kennedy's books. Her earlier books were some of the first romance books I ever read and as I was in college they struck a close cord, I was addicted, however I am no longer in college and there in lies the problem. The immaturity of the Mackenzie really was a huge obstacle for me in reading this book. The best parts of this book are the world of Avalon Bay that Kennedy creates and all of the side characters who I felt were much more real and interesting. Give me the bad twin Evan's book or maybe a book with the crazy, funny roommate and I might feel inclined to keep up with this series. This book will be a smash success, I'm sure of it because there is an audience for this book. I'm almost positive it will go viral on TikTok! Younger fans might not notice or might enjoy the immaturity and slight toxicness of this romance, but I will be curious what the general reaction to the cheating will be since that is usually a dealbreaker for a lot of readers.

This was my first Elle Kennedy book but I have definitely heard the hype before getting it but I did try to keep an open mind on what to expect. To me it truly felt like a blend of the book After and the show Outerbanks?
It was good but it didn’t blow me away or anything like I maybe would’ve expected after hearing about the authors other books. It just ended up giving some heavy cliche fan fiction vibes.
I’m saying that, it was good and I liked the storyline with the twins mom and slowly winning everyone over but other than that I think my expectations were just higher that what we ended up getting from it. It felt like what could’ve been an amazing storyline that stopped before it could reach peak potential.

I received Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy for free through Netflix in exchange for an honest review. It was certainly no hardship to read this book as I already read most anything by Elle Kennedy. This book was excellent and just as good as her other ones. I will continue to read her books!

I'll admit, I grabbed this because of the author and the fact that this wasn't related to the Off-Campus books. Because while I loved that series -- though admittedly lost some love with the spin-off -- I wanted to see what Kennedy could do in a new space, with new concepts, and different characters.
The answer, however, is.. there wasn't much new-ness to this.
I think this is the last Kennedy I'll request to review; I might still pick up the author if something appeals but I have a feeling I may have outgrown her.

I wanted to love this book. I mean I have the same name as the main character, it should have been delightful. However, I can't say this book standouts against the plethora of college romances specifically good little rich girl meets bad boy. I will say her writing style has definitely improved, but I wasn't sold by the premise here.

If it’s one thing Ms. Elle Kennedy is going to do, it’s write a New Adult college-aged steamy romance. This one follows the tumultuous love story of Mac and Cooper. Mac (short for Mackenzie) is a well off girl who’s had her entire life planned out for her down to the man she’s going to marry. That man would be her boyfriend, Preston. After taking a gap year before starting college to build up her very successful business, Mac finds herself falling into the role she was born into: Going to the same college as her boyfriend and getting a degree she’ll never use while he makes the money and she runs social functions.
But that’s not what Mac wants. And Cooper is right there to stir things up from the very beginning. Cooper is not well off. Quite the opposite, in fact. He’s what they call a “townie”: A local to the small town that Mac’s college is in. She finds her path crossed with him and her entire world is changed from then on out. Though it’s not exactly fate that brought them together. Cooper has some ulterior motives that would change everything for Mac if she found out.
Y’all know how I feel about the Off Campus and Briar U series’, specifically Off Campus. I was so excited to get an ARC of this one from NetGalley to see what Ms. Kennedy came up with next. However, from the beginning, I knew I wasn’t going to vibe with this one.
I have nothing against the rich girl/poor guy trope but this one just wasn’t doing it for me. I wanted to love it the way I love Off Campus so badly. It just felt very...cliche? I mean, it’s romance so technically it’s all cliche, but something was missing for me, I think. I don’t think I really vibed with the characters. This isn’t to say I didn’t like them because I actually really liked Mac as a character but it just felt like there was a bit of disconnect for me.
Pacing was good. About normal and what you would expect in a romance. There was your standard conflict and a HEA, of course. But overall, I wasn’t left feeling as fulfilled as I’d hoped by the time I finished the book. It was for this reason that I gave it 2 stars.
While it may not have been my cup of tea, I would still recommend others to give it a try! It’s an easy read. Like any book, there will be people in both camps about loving or hating it. I didn’t mind it. I probably wouldn’t read it again but who knows? Maybe I’ll try again when it actually hits shelves in February 2022.

I am a huge fan of Elle Kennedy so when I came across this good girl vs rich bad boy trope, I knew I needed to read it immediately. I love the way the author gives her characters such big personalities and you can't help but fall in love with them. This IS an NA-style book and I think that should be kept in mind. There is so much heat, chemistry, and character development throughout the story. We meet Mackenzie, who goes by Mack, who is our sweet and easy-going character but also has this fiery and stubborn side to her. She meets Cooper, a hot temperate, and a charismatic male character that loves nothing more than pushing Mack's buttons to release her emotions. Oh - Did I mention this is a love triangle story? No? Well... Meet Preston. The trust fund boy who is an obnoxious douchebag and a real ladies' man.
Although some storylines moved a bit slowly along, we can appreciate that Kennedy put a lot of love and thought into her characters and their development. The character's chemistry and self-growth made the story that much more enjoyable.
If you are a fan of Kennedy's "Campus" series - You'll enjoy this one as well! Thank you so much, NetGalley for the ARC for my honest opinion.

Thank you so much for allowing me an ARC of this book!
Elle Kennedy's Briar Hockey series is one of my favorites! When I found out she was writing a new book, I was ecstatic. She did not disappoint with this book. Cooper and Mac are hilarious and honest and very real! I love the strong attraction they have with each other right from the beginning that turned into something even bigger.
Their story was fun to read as well as Cooper's brother and the "gang" of friends. :)
I wish there was an epilogue, but the ending was HEA and sweet!

I really enjoyed the coastal setting and loved the small town vibe. I did like the spin on the trope of a bet to take the girl out/ win her over and it still ended up feeling like a fresh take. However. The reveal was super drawn out to me and then they just wrapped it up after so fast. Worse she didn’t mind that the friends were in on it? That was hard to believe for sure. Overall, I liked it and it was a fun book with steam.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
2.5 stars
Good Girl Complex is definitely my least favorite Elle Kennedy book to date. As a big fan of her Off-Campus and Briar U series, I went into her newest release expecting to adore it. Unfortunately though, Kennedy’s first traditionally published book was a big disappointment.
This book follows Mackenzie “Mac” Cabot, the daughter of extremely wealthy parents who moves to the small seaside town of Avalon Bay to begin her college career. It’s there that she meets bad boy Cooper Hartley, who tests her resolve and brings out a wild side of herself. They fall for each other quickly, but amidst a generations old rivalry, Cooper’s secrets, and Mac’s demanding parents, that newfound love is tested.
I think the only positive thing I can say about this book is that it didn’t completely suck. A glowing compliment for sure. There were some funny moments, the writing wasn’t too bad, and the smut was spot-on, as per true Elle Kennedy fashion. But I also didn’t like most of the tropes included, and there were some problematic aspects that were impossible to ignore.
First and foremost, I want to talk about how this was just a complete copy of the plot of After. We have Cooper, the tattooed bad boy, and Mac, the innocent rich girl. Cooper’s a local in Avalon Bay, and for some reason he hates the rich people who go to college there with a burning passion, enough so that he makes a bet with his friends that he can get Mac to sleep with him. Sound familiar yet?
But the similarities don’t end there. I can’t go too into detail without spoiling the book, but if you are at all aware of the plot of After, I’m sure you’ll be able to predict it for yourself.
And also!! As if copying the entire plot of another book isn’t already bad enough, she also copied the name of of one of the side characters. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional, but just remember guys, if you’re going to copy someone else’s book, at least remember to switch out the character names.
I should mention though that although this seemed exactly like After, it was still a better version of it.
One of my other biggest problems with this book is how cheating was portrayed in it. I have no problem with there being in cheating in books, as long as it’s not glorified and the people doing it are held responsible for their actions. But in this book, there was a whole lot of cheating.
It’s revealed that Mac’s boyfriend Preston has been cheating on her since the start of their relationship early on in the book. Mac doesn’t find out until later, not until she’s already cheated on him, multiple times. When she finds out about Preston she flips out, and he’s made out to be a villain. I’m not saying I don’t think he is, but I find it really weird that Mac was never condemned for her actions like he was. There’s even a line in the book that says something along the lines of how she deserves more than someone like him, even though she did the exact same thing he did.
In Elle Kennedy’s previous books she’s managed to avoid glorifying cheating if it’s for the “right person.” I really wish she had managed to do the same for this one.
Even ignoring the problematic aspects of this book, it still wouldn’t have been for me. I wasn’t a big fan of the tropes used, so I already felt disconnected from the story, but the characters also weren’t that fleshed out. The world of Avalon Bay also felt very distant. The entire book took place in Mac’s dorm room and Cooper’s house, with the occasional visit to somewhere on the boardwalk. Assuming this will be a series, I’m sure the town will become more visible throughout the rest of the books, but at least in this one I didn’t feel very immersed.
Overall, Elle Kennedy’s newest release wasn’t for me, but I’m sure there will be some die-hard fans who enjoy this one immensely. And I hope that as the rest of the series progresses I’ll fall more in love with Avalon Bay and its inhabitants.
Release Date: February 1, 2022
Page Count: 368 pages
Perfect for fans of: After, Outer Banks, any of Elle Kennedy’s previous works
Representation: one older gay couple, mentioned once or twice
Tropes: bad boy x rich girl, bet, independent girlboss, boy falls first

This was such a fun read. I loved the storyline and characters that Elle Kennedy created. I loved that Mac was not your typical rich girl "clone." This book is the perfect amount of spicy and sweet. I can't wait to see where Kennedy takes this new series.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed the story. It was a little to young and bland for me though. I felt the characters were immature but again that was my hang up I'm sure due to me not realizing it was a NA book. Mac seemed like the typical pushover and should have definitely known that Preston was a douche canoe. Cooper was alright, tried a little too hard to be a bad boy. It was a good story nonetheless, just not for me. I will definitely recommend to my teenage cousin.
Arc provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

After reading the Off Campus series, I wanted to read more by Elle Kennedy and when I saw she had a new book coming out and it was available on NetGalley, I knew I had to request it. (Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for my gifted eARC)
I didn’t read Good Girl Complex all that quickly. I tried to savor it a bit. I thought the story was a lot of fun, and I really liked the characters. The voice in Good Girl Complex felt very different and for some reason it felt like the books were written by different authors (not that that’s bad).
All that said, I think Good Girl Complex is a solid romance, and if Kennedy keeps up with the series, I will definitely read them all.

Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin's Press/St. Martin's Griffin for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
5 Stars. First I haven’t read any of Elle Kennedy’s other books, this is my first. This was a spicy but adorable book and I loved it. It’s the classic good girl meets bad boy trope but it felt fresh and I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed Elle Kennedy’s writing. The plot was compelling and the romance felt natural and made me want the best for the Cooper and Mac. Both their characters are complex and definitely more than meets the eye. I really enjoyed the circumstances Cooper and Mac met under and it really drives the entire plot of the book. The story never feels slow and by the end I was rushing to find out what happens. The ending was almost too fast but mostly because I adored them and honestly wanted an epilogue at the end to get a glimpse of their future.
Overall I didn’t want the story to end! I hope maybe the next book will be about Evan and we will still get to see glimpses of Cooper and Mac. I highly recommend this book if you love a good small town meets opposites attract romance. I definitely want to read Elle Kennedy’s other books now.
