The Girls of Cemetery Road by Twyla Ellis is a good book to read on a rainy day. This book takes place in a remote town in Texas. It begins with Kit returning after so many years to remodel and sell her family home after the loss of her parents. Already having to be home, she is reminded of the loss of her best friend Libby, who has never been found. All of her friends move back to town and pairing up with mates that they knew since childhood. Kit does rekindle her friendships and make new friends. Such as befriending Miss Maddie, who lives across the street from her. Despite being nice to Miss Maddie, she constantly pushes Kit away. However, Miss Maddie leaves her estate to Kit to repay all the kindness. There is more than one plot going on and can get repetitive. We also have strange events happened, secrets being revealed and an evil to battle.

I wanted to like this story a lot more than I did but sadly there was tons of different pov and it was confusing. I definitely liked the first book more than this.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook.

Too many view points and slow pace didn't make this book right for me. I wanted more, I wanted dark and creepy moments, there are some, but I felt like the story was just too thin

I finished The Girls of Cemetary Road in just one day! I just couldn’t put it down. I absolutely love the characters, it was well written, it’s fast paced & mysterious and the author’s attention to details just pulls you in. Twyla Ellis is an amazing author and she is one that I will always read!

** Thank you to the author/publisher and Netgalley for the ARC of this book.

This story really engaged me at the beginning but I feel like the second half lacked luster. The writing is atmospheric and the plot had a good premise.
Many thanks to Zimbell House Publishing and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is one of those great stories where the house and scenery becomes one of the characters in the book. Second book in a series, but you'd not know it if you had not been told. Each character adds their own story, their own baggage, even Kit, who vanished many years ago. The suspense builds to a high point, you cant figure out where its going and then the story explodes, leaving you turning back pages looking for the clues you had to have missed. A great story.....

Another mystery in the Texas Big Thicket - a strong cast of characters surrounding long buried secrets and mysteries in the small town and magical Big Thicket. A bit of supernatural woven in makes for a great and satisfying read!

2-1/2 stars, rounded up for some genuinely atmospheric scenes. This is the 2nd book of a trilogy…all unrelated except for the location, apparently. I requested the first two, based on the Gothic covers and creepy blurbs. This story had some scary moments, but the plot was spread way too thin…too many angles that just never quite came together to form a cohesive whole. It simply tries too hard…too many storylines that don’t gel and adequately explain the overall plot. The too-sweet romantic ending had me rolling my eyes. I won’t be reading the third.

This is an author I never hesitate to pick up. Her books are well written and her attention to details pull you into the story from the beginning. This book is no different. The characters pulled me in right from the start. They are connectable and kept me turning pages just to see what would happen next. This is a story of haunting and twists and turns that I never seen coming. I enjoyed the growth throughout the plot of this story which I really enjoyed. This is not my first book by this author but it is one of my favorites. It is worth the pick up and I highly recommend it.

Get yourself a cozy blanket, a warm cup of tea, and a rainy day; that will set the vibe for this book. Taking place in a remote town in Texas called the "Big Thicket," Kit returns after many years away to remodel and sell her family home after losing both of her parents. For most people returning home is filled with nostalgia but for Kit it's filled with pain. In her childhood, she has lost one of her best friends Libby who has never been found. With working on the remodel, reconnecting with old friends, and forming new relationships, Kit somehow finds the time to befriend the ornery Miss Maddie who lives across the street. Though constantly pushed away by Miss Maddie her kindness is repaid in an interesting manner when Maddie leaves her entire estate to Kit upon her death.

I wanted to like this story a lot more than I did but sadly there were A LOT of different things going on. I think I would have liked it with maybe two plot lines but it seems that by the end we had about five. The writing is good, you have great character development and you seem to understand the people who are in each setting but you do deal with a lot of unnecessary repetition that had me reading this slower than I expected. I will say though that environment is untouchable. All the old house vibes are on point here.

Thank you to Twyla Ellis, Zimbell House Publishing, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Once I started this book, I could not put it down. I found it to be very well written with engaging characters, full of mystery and secrets. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.

This is a Southern Gothic tale, chock full of strangely behaving people ("Boo Radleys," as the girls of the title describe them), tragedies and violence, ghosts and sweet tea, and some truly forced romances. The novel is written in a naive style, full of typos and spelling mistakes, and I can't figure out whether they're intentional and meant to invoke a kind of folksiness. The story asks readers to suspend a lot of willing disbelief, and to accept a mindset in which heterosexual partnerships are god-willed, and Christianity is assumed. The girls of Cemetery Road live on the same lane; when one goes missing at age 12, the others mourn, but there doesn't seem to be much of a hunt for her. Years later, the "girls," now women, find each other all in town again, and through various fortunate events find themselves giving up other plans and happily settling into new lives in their old hometown with mates they've known since childhood. But strange figures and events occur, secrets are revealed, and an evil force is finally put down by two faith healers recently arrived in the town. The dialogue is often stilted and awkward, and the characters are rather flat. With a solid developmental edit, this could have been quite good, but at present it's a bit of a mess and needs a lot of work.

This was a bit disappointing to me honestly and way too slow-paced. I really wanted to like it, but just couldn't get into it.

This book was good. Kinda like the 1st one. At yes it was a little confusing because it was so much like the first one. Dont get me wrong the author is a talented writer, but the books were too similar. Maybe next time expand on one of the towns. Maybe some more of the local lore? Just my opinion! Can't wait to read the 3rd in the series.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this title.

The Girls of Cemetery Road are four best friends. Their lives are rocked to the core when Libby, one of their own goes missing one night. Ten years later, Kit, Bliss and Jules come back together only to find that things are still not right on their old street.

I had some major issues with this book. There were too many subplots, a shoed in romance, and characters that were far too similar to the first book in this series. On top of these things, were all the heavy-handed nods at foreshadowing. A good story--especially a thriller or mystery or southern gothic, shouldn't take your hand and force you down the road to the answers. It should let you come to them naturally. That didn't happen here. Time and again, the author would say things like"he had a connection to Bellewood we didn't know about then" or "that would prove to be a good thing later." There was no tension or stakes to the novel. It just was. By the end, I'd lost interest in what the story was going to be because I knew the author was just going to lay it out nicely anyway, so it didn't matter.

I wanted this book to push and be darker. I wanted there to be more character development and not just simple characters. I wanted mystery and a build. I didn't get that at all.

The Girls of Cemetery Road was delightfully spooky with strong noir vibes. I would definitely recommend it to others looking for an eerie book.

For a horror book, it was incredibly slow paced and anti-climactic. It was not at all scary but more on sad. It was also bordering on mystery and chic-lit. The book cannot decide what it wants it to be. The story was okay. I wished that the Miss Maddie's story was explored more though.

With. Strong “noir” feel to it, this book features some of the most intriguing characters I have “met” for a while. The mystery is great - very fast moving but not so complex that you get lost in the pace. But it is the characters and the ambience of that kind of spooky setting that really make this book great.

This is the second book in a series and I can't wait to read the next one. Twyla Ellis couldn't write a book that is not amazing. The writing is beautiful and the characters are so relatable and the story never drags. I don't usually care for the super natural but there is just enough here to make it believable. This author really has a gift.for making her characters come alive on the page. There are lots of twists and turns throughout and the ending is completely unexpected. I highly recommend this to anyone who is willing to lose some sleep because you won't be able to put it down until you know what happens next!
