I obviously love Ireland so that was fun to read about. But the relationship left something to be desired. They never seemed like they actually cared about each other until the epilogue.

This was definitely the romantic comedy it was marketed to be and I enjoyed the story in the beginning but the plot takes an odd turn and I just didn’t see the progression making any sense. I could have liked this a lot more.

With her life back in LA hanging on by a thread, aspiring screenwriter Cara hops on a plane to Dublin for a long weekend. But after one too many whiskeys on her last night in Ireland, she returns to America with a brand new husband in tow. As the two try to give their marriage a go, Finn starts going out on auditions, where he lands the role of a lifetime. Will this new gig give Cara and Finn their own Hollywood ending or will their love fizzle out before it can even begin?

Lucky Leap Year was such a fun read. Both Cara and Finn were likable from the start and I found myself cheering for their happily ever after the entire time. While it was fun seeing the beginning of their relationship, I really fell for the pair once they got back to LA. The two had their fair share of secrets, but I loved watching them figure out what each of them meant to each other in terms of their new marriage.

I adored Finn and could hear his Irish accent brimming from the pages. From his endearment of “Luv” and his sexy and witty banter, I was all in on his character. He was the perfect compliment to Cara, who he pushed to get out of her shell, especially after the implosion of her last relationship.

I really liked Walker’s debut novel, Happy Singles Day, so I knew I had to read Lucky Leap Year. It definitely didn’t disappoint and I felt like I was watching a movie as I read the book. It gave me definite P.S. I Love You vibes, mixed with The Proposal. A solid romantic comedy that isn’t too heavy!

This was a super cute, swoon-worthy novel with an Irish flair (which I love)! I couldn't put this one down, it was very wholesome and fun to read. Finn and Cara were adorable.

I've loved the Leap Day tradition of Ireland, so reading this rom com about a woman visiting on Leap Day and ending up with a "how did we get here" husband was a lot of fun. I did wait long enough to finally read this one that the audio was already available as well, and I loved the narration. I definitely recommend this story in either format to the accidental marriage or Ireland lovers out there.

Her souvenir from her trip to Ireland is a husband? I am SOLD.

𝗟𝗨𝗖𝗞𝗬 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗣 𝗗𝗔𝗬 is a fun, light, read with a seriously hot husband and a sweet HEA. This is a low-steam romance that somehow feels steamy. It would be a great book to recommend to your aunt or neighbor if you don't want to let them know how steamy you REALLY like your smut books. 😉

Cara is a great female lead. She was relatable, likable, and hard-working. I loved seeing her vulnerability and watching her learn to take what she wants in life.

And swoony Finn was honestly a little TOO perfect. His character has zero flaws. While that is very swoony, I like more complex lead characters.

Cara and Finn had instant chemistry, lots of swoony moments, and a solid foundation of friendship that made their happily ever after that much sweeter! 𝗟𝗨𝗖𝗞𝗬 𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗣 𝗗𝗔𝗬 is a great read, especially if you want a lighter book and sizzle without steam.

When Lucky Leap Day came across my Kindle, I instantly dove in. I looooove me a good accidental marriage, and this one did NOT disappoint. The book starts in Dublin with our leading lady Cara. This is definitely the standard "finds herself traveling abroad after a nasty break-up, making bad decisions after one too many" plot. It's done in a way that engages you and makes you want to root for her and Finn (our dashing musician Irishman) even when they hit every speed bump in their marriage possible.

Their time together in Dublin comes to an end, and they head to LA, where Cara is from. That's when we get a more in-depth look at Cara's life and stressors. Overall, Lucky Leap Day is a super cute read, and the epilogue brings a small twist that made me giggle aloud. A perfect book for a day when you want an adorable, fluffy, feel-good read.

Following a breakup, Cara flies to a conference in Ireland, knowing her ex will be there. She drunkenly proposes, in true Leap Day fashion, to her hot Irish driver and wakes up married. And back in CA as they sort things and Finn attends auditions, there’s a little fun, heat and laughter. Recommend this 5-star RomCom

While in Dublin at a work conference, Cara follows Irish Leap Day tradition and proposes to her sexy Irish Uber driver Finn. And the laughter just flows from there. When Cara returns to Malibu, Finn and pup head there too and there’s more sweet romantic comedy to enjoy.

One of my favorite things about working at Verve (I mean, it's a long list, but for the sake of this article, this is one) is when Beth pops into Slack and asks us if we want to read a book.

Beth Cranford: Anyone interested in a little Irish romance?

We all know I love a good Scottish romance—it's well documented. I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn that I also love a good Irish romance. The Celtic ancestry in me screams with delight every time this setting comes across the pages of a book.

So, naturally, my answer to Beth's question was an astounding YES.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

"After one-too-many whiskeys, fledgling screenwriter Cara Kennedy takes a page out of someone else’s script when she gets caught up in the Irish tradition of women proposing on Leap Day. She thought she might have dreamt everything until she woke the next morning with a hot guy in her bed and a tin foil ring on her finger."

This is a prime example of loving the synopsis more than the book - kind of the whole "all the good bits were in the movie trailer" sort of thing. As an aspiring screenwriter, myself, I saw so much of myself in Cara! While I thoroughly enjoyed the bits of the story that took place in Ireland, I felt like the romance came secondary to all of Cara's work issues once they made it back to California.

Also, I'm sure some people will enjoy the epilogue told from the DOG'S POV, but unfortunately, that's not for me. I love doggos, but what I don't love is an inconsistent/random POV added for the hell of it...

this was such a sweet read! super funny and romantic. The characters definitely brought this book to life with the wittiness and the banter. I'm always up for a good romcom and this one did not disappoint.

Lucky Leap Day is cute, sweet read. It’s a great choice for the reader who likes low angst and closed door romance.

Lucky Leap Day follows the story of Cara Kennedy, an aspiring screenwriter who was supposed to go on a trip to Ireland with her boyfriend unfortunately broke up with her two weeks earlier. She went on the trip alone and brokenhearted there she crossed paths with Finn Maguire, an Uber driver who served as her sort of a tour guide during her three day stay in the country. On the evening before going home she decided to have some fun at a local pub and unforeseen turn of events she wakes up married On the evening before going home, she decided to have some fun at a local pub and unforeseen turn of events she wakes up married to Finn and if that isn't enough, she was the one who popped the question because of an Irish tradition for women to propose to men on leap day.

I really love that the story is fast paced, hilarious, and heartwarming. I would recommend this book to those who are looking for something to make them laugh and give them the courage to pursue their dreams because everybody deserves to have their own version of a happy ending.

Thank you Net Galley for providing me of with an ARC of this book.

Lucky Leap Day was an adorable story that was low on the angst and lots of fun! It was so easy to fly through and the characters were charming. If you're in need of a quick, lighthearted read, then definitely check out this book!

“It’s just… we don’t really know all that much about each other, do we?” It was the understatement of the century. Cara didn’t even know the most basic facts about Finn.
He chuckled. “Enough to want to get married.”

This story whisked us away to Ireland and then California. Cara was traveling to Ireland alone. She was supposed to go with her ex, but after they broke up she thought why not and braved the trip solo. It ended up leading her to meet Finn, who seemed to be a jack of all trades. But after a drunken night together, Cara woke up in Finn's bed, with both of them wearing tin foil wedding rings.

“You’re a right feek,” Finn said.
Cara froze because that one she knew from one of the websites she’d read before her trip. Gorgeous girl. But it wasn’t the compliment that stopped her in her tracks. It was the way Finn said it. Like she was the only woman who mattered in the world.

Cara and Finn were both so likeable! Finn was not only a sweetheart, but he was charming too. And Cara had such a huge heart and an adventurous spirit. Together they instantly had sparks and I loved where fate led them. If you're a fan of forced proximity and the one bed trope, this played out so fabulously. Of course I was rooting for their happily ever after! On top of Cara and Finn, there were side characters that were memorable and an exuberant dog too ♥.

“Besides, it’s not like I married you because of your career.” He winked. “I just needed a mother for Oscar.”
At the sound of his name, the dog lifted his head from where he’d been sleeping on the couch and gave a small bark.
“See, he agrees.”
“Glad he approves,” Cara said as they shared a laugh.

Lucky Leap Day was smile inducing and oh so cute. I devoured this book in two sittings and it left a smile on my face. Plus the epilogue?! It was absolutely delightful and unique, I've never read one quite like it. This was my first book by Ann Marie Walker and when I'm wanting a sweet, lighthearted read I'll definitely be checking out her other books!

After a terrible breakup, Cara Walker leaves Los Angeles and heads to Ireland for a few days to clear her head. As an up-and-coming screenwriter, she is doing everything she can to get herself back on track and have her creative juices flowing. Among all the historic buildings and pint glasses, with the celebration of leap day, the day where women are the ones to propose to their loved ones, Cara also...gets a husband? All of a sudden, Cara wakes up with a severe hangover and a hot guy next to her, along with a foil ring on her finger. Cara needs to get back to LA soon, but now she is forced to bring her husband and his dog along with her to figure out the annulment papers. But what happens when Finn makes Cara's heart go flip-flop? And makes her feel certain ways that her ex never did? Now life just got a whole lot more complicated. Does Cara even want to divorce Finn anymore? Or is she really falling in love with the Irish lad? Looks like Cara's got a page of her own screenwriting going on in the real world. GO READ THIS PEOPLE.

2.5 stars rounded up.

In an epic case of ‘the whiskey made me do it’ wannabe screenwriter Cara Kennedy finds herself caught up in the excitement of the Irish tradition of women proposing to men on Leap Day. Her last day in Dublin sees her waking up next to an attractive man with tin foil rings on both their fingers. She has to leave the same day so the two decide to dissolve the marriage from US, with Finn returning back to LA with Cara. Finn’s natural charm gets him noticed by the big shot agent who just happens to be Cara’s boss, causing Cara to question if he’s really there for her or for a potential career. With limited time to do it, Finn must show Cara he’s after her and not a fast ticket to fame.

I wanted to love this book so much more than I did. I was super excited to read something set in Dublin, but unfortunately the time spent there was pretty short and most of the action takes place in LA. Finn was a musician and tour guide in Dublin who never once mentioned acting or wanting to try to be an actor so when his supposed desire to make Hollywood connections became a key plot point, I just couldn’t buy it and the fact that Cara did made her intelligence as a heroine questionable. If anything, she pushed and encouraged him into the acting thing, and it wasn’t really something he’d wanted. In fact, he told Cara his passion was landscape design and then suddenly he’s going to an audition and that just felt like a nonsensical swerve in the plot. Granted, a lot of the logistics of the book aren’t plausible so it’s definitely important to remember that it is fiction, but some of the leaps Cara made were just a bit much for me. Overall, she actually treated Finn pretty poorly and I never could quite figure out what he saw in her or where the connection was coming from. This wasn’t helped by the fact that any sex scenes occurred off page, which is fine, but they also weren’t mentioned until pages, sometimes chapters, later and we never got the discussion of feelings or emotional depth or any indication that the relationship was deepening. Any of that development that was present occurred off page, so I was left feeling that both characters were rather flat, especially given that Finn and Cara really don’t get much alone together time on page either. Add in the fact that we are only given Cara’s perspective and never Finn’s and his character feels especially flat, like he’s just a token hot Irish guy with many talents, but mostly just there to be hot and have an accent. None of this is helped by Cara’s insistence on there being an undeniable connection between her and Finn, while ignoring him and calling their relationship fake in the same breath. I was also a little thrown by the epilogue from the dog’s perspective. It was cute and all, but not quite what I wanted to read and finally having Finn’s perspective might’ve been better, or maybe just too little too late. This was a cute and humorous story, but without a ton of depth, though that makes it good for those who want a light-hearted, low angst read, as long as it being a bit low on the romance is okay too.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
