Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to inspiring people. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

" I have a dream."

Martin Luther king delivered one of the most influential speeches in history. These simple words were the start of the greatest change in modern American history.

This little book serves as an introduction to one of the worlds most famous leaders.

What I liked about the book:
The art style of the book is amazing.
This book is a great introduction to an important historical figure.
It is suitable to a young audiance.

What I didn't like about the book:
The book was very short. I felt like I needed to know more about Martin Luther King.

I love the 'little people, big dreams' series and am so happy to see board books available for children. I love the idea of every baby having a Martin Luther king Jr book. This book teaches about Martin while being age appropriate for babies.

4.5★ - KEEP THE DREAM ALIVE!
“Little Martin came from a long line of preachers… He dreamed of becoming one, too.”

That’s not the dream he’s known for, but it was certainly a good start. The winner of the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize started off modestly. pretending to preach to friends in the yard, the way others of us might Play Teacher.

He was sent away from a friend’s house because he was black.

My Goodreads review has a picture captioned:
“Black children were not allowed to be with white children.”

When he grew up and went to university, he found out about Mohandas Gandhi and peaceful protests.

My Goodreads review has a picture captioned:

He did become a pastor and asked people to speak up. Then a woman, Rosa Parks, did speak up and refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white man. Everybody saw it on the news.

My Goodreads review has a picture captioned:
People watching Rosa Parks on televisions in store windows

Martin asked people not to take a bus at all until the rules were changed. He was still keen to make the world a fairer place. In 1963, he gave his famous speech, one which is still quoted nearly 70 years later.

My Goodreads review has a picture captioned:

In 1964, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

My Goodreads review has a picture captioned:
“He won a peace prize for his work. But his work was never finished. He called on everyone to keep his dream alive…”

This is a book for small children, so his assassination is never mentioned. I thought it would be interesting to share a couple of real photos.

This is a good introduction to an important historical figure and the concept of equality. It’s a simple start to a complex problem. I’d always like a few more pictures, and I prefer some of the other illustrative styles that are used in this series, but those are pretty petty quibbles.

Martin Luther King, Jr.' by Ma Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Mai Ly Degnan is the 33rd entry in the Little People, BIG DREAMS series of books for little readers.

Little Martin was surrounded by a family of preachers, so perhaps it was inevitable he would become one as well. An early childhood incident made him aware of racism when a childhood friend invited him to play, and the child's mother wouldn't let Martin in the house. Martin went on to great things.

This is such a great series that I instantly request review copies every time I see them. The range of artists in the series makes them interesting.

Are you ready for a Baby edition of the Little People, Big Dreams series?! I SO AM.

I think this series is a great way to introduce young readers to non-fiction, biographies and famous figures. Engaging stories, colourful illustrations and easy to read styles is the way to go. This series knows what's up and I'm super impressed.

This book is even more simplistic than the "original". The sentences are shorter, use very simple words (for the most part) and are engaging. I think this is a great tool for even younger readers to get into the non-fiction world.

Three out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

An awesome picture book for the littles that shows how Martin Luther King Jr grew up and what inspired him to be a great man. This is a great book to open a discussion with the kiddos about racism and equal rights and the history of both in America. The book is colorfully illustrated and includes some additional resources at the end of the book.

I highly recommend this one!

Another 5-stars from a 5-year-old! We’d only finished lunch when he came to ask me if there was another book he could read about someone little like him who had a dream. Imagine my surprise when I surfed NetGalley and found this one on Martin Luther! Again, it’s the Baby Edition, but my nephew’s face lit up attempting to read it and my heart was happy exposing him to amazing influencers. How wonderful to have a desire to read at such a young age…thank you Little books, BIG DREAMS.

You can tell how engaging a book will be if young people spend time exploring the illustrations and asking questions. Both my nephew and my 8-year-old niece were excited to read this book and it led to some wonderful discussions. I love that despite being geared towards toddlers this book still has a message. In fact, it has given me pause to reconsider future baby gifts!

The message in this book is that we should be judged by our character and not by the colour of our skin.

Given our current world situation, this is a great tool to start discussing racism and segregation. You’re never too young to learn…and these books are a necessary tool for parents and teachers.

While wandering around NetGalley, I stumbled across this awesome new board book series for babies and toddlers. The vibrant, yet simple, covers displaying historical women that I have grown up learning caught my eye, and it instantly drew me to pick up a few of these books off the shelves. To be totally honest, I was so intrigued by these books that I ended up sitting right down to explore this new nonfiction board book series.

Through my reading and my post-reading research, I have learned that Little People, Big Dreams is a new series that focuses on introducing the youngest of readers to amazing, wonderful women that have influenced the world. Each book is purposely designed in order to highlight one woman who has made a difference in the world. It tells the story of that women's dream and how she was able to make her dream come true despite the biggest of obstacles.

I loved the simplicity of the design of the series, Little People, Big Dreams. The authors and illustrators who have worked on this project clearly understand their audience, and they have made each of the books reflect exactly what they want their youngest of readers to be exposed to. Designed for babies and toddlers, Little People, Big Dreams uses simple text and engaging pictures to tell the story of each woman in a kid-friendly manner.

Often times, my biggest complaint with board books is that they lack plots or messages. Even though board books are purposely designed for babies and toddlers, I absolutely believe they still need to be strong examples of books that contain both strong plots and messages. All age levels of children need to have access to great text.

I loved how Little People, Big Dreams designed their biography series for baby and preschool readers. There are not many nonfiction book series out there. This series is absolutely helping to pave the way to push the norm for what we typically think of when we think of baby books. Little People, Big Dreams series is a positive example of how even our youngest readers can read and learn from awesome books!

I think this book does a great job of introducing the littlest readers to the life of Martin Luther King Jr, I felt the beginning of the book was a little choppy in explaining his life and his relation to the civil rights movement, but I really enjoyed how it concluded with the focus on his hopes for the future.

Martin Luther King Jr. by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara provides a simple biography for early childhood learners. It tells how MLK first saw racism and segregation as a child and how he wanted to be able to speak in big words so that he can change people’s hearts. It tells how he learned about peaceful protests and helped lead protests against the bus companies. It spoke of his famous “I have a Dream” speech and how he was awarded a prize for his actions. It ends with how his dream is still not yet finished and how we must all keep working to keep his dream alive.
This is a great book to help introduce MLK to our earliest learners. This would be prefect to start talking about topics of racism and segregation with our younger students.

This board book edition of Martin Luther King Jr is a beautifully illustrated and well worded picture book for children. Martin Luther King was such an inspirational figure and I love that he is being taught about with children of such young ages.
Children will enjoy the illustrations and are sure to question things stated in this book.
Another great edition!

These books are just the best. Although, they are marketed for children and think should be, but each speaks to everyone. It gives a piece of history we all need to know.

Martin Luther King, Jr. was an inspiration to so many people, but especially of course African Americans. He asked for non-violence to achieve goals. He gave his famous, ‘I Have a Dream Speech’. He thought each person should be judged by their character.

We are still not there yet, but we should be. Give each person basic fairness and then let each live his/her life.

Thank you NetGalley, and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books. Each book is needed.

Martin Luther King Jr, the guy I mixed up with Martin Luther. Never knew his life, but his famous phrase "I have a dream" inspired a lot of people. Including me.

Being black back then was not a happy occasion. Martin suffered a lot, therefore he had this dream, of making a fair world to all.

Always a fan of the series, I look forward to new books by the author and publisher.

This is another brilliant addition to this series – even as an adult I look out for the next book in the series being released!

I love the images in this series and this is a delightful introduction to Martin Luther King Jr, one of the most influential and powerful people that has lived. I do think that possibly how his life ended could have been touched up at the end when it had the photos of his life and achievements, but I do also understand why it was missed off with the target audience and the focus on the book is really his "I have a dream" speech.

This series is an excellent introduction to some of the well-known, and less well-known characters that have had a great impact in our lives through a variety of subjects such as literature, the rights of minorities, political influence, women's rights and science.

It is 4 stars from me for this one – a delightful read and one I will be highly recommending!!

This title is part of a series of Little People, Big Dreams stories for the very youngest children. It is never too early for them to learn about the people who are part of their world.

This time the story of MLK is told in simple language and with appealing illustrations. Issues of segregation are noted in a matter of fact tone while clearly making the point that discrimination was/is not okay. Children learn how MLK grew up and tried to help people to look at the world differently. The Civil Rights movement is mentioned as was MLK wanting to protest using peaceful means.

King was an inspiration to many. Let him inspire a child that you know as well.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Martin Luther King, Jr wanted to inspire people from the beginning. From a family of preachers, young Martin wanted to change the world and to talk about things that mattered. The racism in America was, and is, unfair. He was the face of the Civil Rights Movement.

As an educator, I would recommend this book for young elementary students, learning about real people. It would make a perfect addition to a home or classroom library.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for the eARC. Opinions expressed are my own.
