It's been a long time since I've read a thriller and didn't see any of the twists coming. This book gave me several WTF moments right to the end.
A bit of a slow start but it picked up steam midway and packed a heck of a punch ending.
First time reading Kiersten Modglin. She's definitely on my radar now.

Reading Between the Wines book review #72/115 for 2021:
Rating: 5 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 🎧: The Arrangement
Author: Kiersten Modglin
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES on July 1, 2021!!!
Recommended to readers who are looking for a book that throws you for a doozy… a “You think you know but you have NO idea” kind of book.

Sipping thoughts: I read this book in less than 24 hours which is pretty unusual for me! Yall, I was on a plane on the way to a wedding in another state and by the time the Uber picked us up at the airport I only had 90 minutes left for the book. All the family planned on meeting up in the lobby and all I could think of was “I GOT TO FINISH THIS BOOK!” Thankfully, I was able to steal away to get showered and dressed and finished the book. Holy Moly! I pride myself on figuring out twists and there were SO many that the ones I did figure out was insubstantial to the REAL major OMG twists. This is the 4th five-star book for 2021 but is probably my number one so far! I haven’t read any other Modglin books, but I will definitely be adding her past books to my TBR.

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley, @kierstenmodglinauthor and @DreamscapeMedia for an advanced copy of @TheArrangement

This was a fairly standard version of this trope - an open marriage/marriage with infidelity as the jumping off point for a thriller. I was hoping it would be something special but instead it was a little formulaic. It’s a very slow burn - no real action or suspense even happens until about 40% of the way through. There were a few twists that were supposed to be shocking but weren’t really (and most of those happened in the end of the novel). The characters were supposed to be complex but instead they were a little bland and expected (and definitely unlikeable). On the plus side it is a very quick read so if you are looking something that is standard for this specific sub genre, it will fit your need. I also think if you are not typically a reader in this genre, you might find it more original and enjoy it more than I did.

Thank you to William Morrow and NetGalley for the copy.

3.5 stars rounded up. I think there were a few too many twists, I'm not a fan of lying to the reader with first person POV. It was engaging and very surprising though, so extra points for that.

This is the story of a couple whose relationship has become lackluster and boring. Ainsley finds herself longing for the days when her children were younger and needed her and when she and her husband Peter connected fully. So she proposes an "arrangement" where they each have one night each week to go on dates with other people, possibly more, in order to spice up their marriage. Things don't exactly go as planned though...

The setup for this tale immediately reminded me of Last Couple Standing by Matthew Norman. I'm NOT a fan of cheating in books, even when the couple agrees to it. The only reason I had decided to continue with the book knowing this is that I recently read another book by this author (The Missing) and loved the twists she threw in, so I was expecting more of the same with this one and wasn't disappointed. There are definitely some shocking twists in this book and the ultimate ending, although really far-fetched, was great.

Like I mentioned above, I did knock a half point off of the rating due to the first person characters lying to the reader. It doesn't work for me--leave the information out if you must, but except for rare instances, people don't lie in their own heads and if they do it is definitely not to the extent this book carries it.

I started out listening to this book as an audiobook and enjoyed the dual narrators for both Ainsley and Peter. This novel is incredibly fast paced and although I was thoroughly engaged with listening to the story, I switched over to the e-book so I could find out what happened. Fortunately it was available via KU, so that was a bonus to be able to switch back and forth between the formats.

I will definitely check out further books by this author in the future, I love the way she crafts twists and surprises.

This book was amazing. I haven't read (or listened to) a book this intricate and twisty in so long. I had such a blast listening to the characters come to life. The plot continually twisted and turned, making it hard to figure out what is really going on. Loved it!

A great, twisty, suspenseful story with an ending that goes a bit too far into crazytown. (And this is coming from someone who LOVES crazytown.) But still a great read.

This is the story of a marriage in crisis. Ainsley and her husband Peter have what appears to outsiders to be a great marriage, but in reality it's been floundering for awhile. There is no excitement anymore, no sex really, no danger or thrills. So the couple decides on an "arrangement" for each of them to see other people, following very specific rules. This arrangement, of course, does not fix the marriage, but results in disaster, murder, and deception. Will the couple's foray into the forbidden fix their marriage or destroy it?

I really enjoyed the audiobook and the two narrators and Modglin does a fantastic job of revealing twists and shockers all the way through. I was fully invested in, and intrigued by, the story, and was surprised by a great many of the twists. The story of the two characters and the secrets they keep in the marriage was always intriguing. One of the ending twists (the second-to last one) was a bit over the top for my tastes, and did not really have a valid reason or motive to back it up. But I could forgive that, because the rest of the book was so much fun to listen to. And the FINAL final twist (which I had guessed) was a great one and very clever.

This was my first book by Kiersten Modglin and I'm definitely excited to read another one. She knows how to bring the suspense and the surprising twists.

Thanks to Dreamscape Media, NetGalley, and the author for this advance audiobook. 4 plus stars for lots of wicked fun.

This book was amazing! It had so many twist and turns in it that I did not see coming. This author is becoming one of my go to authors to read when I am looking a psycho thriller to read. I feel that the two narrators did a good job. That female was just amazing. I need to find other books she is reading. Great book.

I listened to this one on audio and it was one truly wild ride!! It is totally binge-worthy and I was intrigued and hooked immediately!

It’s such a quick read/listen that is super twisty and will definitely leave you shook! This was my first by her and I can’t wait to continue reading more!

And wow, just when you thought the book was done, Modglin just kept delivering twist after twist which ultimately left my head spinning until the very last word! 🤯

4.5 stars round to 5 for goodreads

Thank you Net Galley for an advanced audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

All I can say is, “Wow”. Shocking twists and turns all the way through.

I loved this audiobook. The narrators were exceptional and the book was written very well.

The characters were well developed and there was just enough backstory.

Very rarely do I give 5 stars but I’m still in disbelief at the storyline. I promise this is a must read or must listen to audiobook. I won’t give any spoilers away.

I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Ainsley decides that s4he needs to do something to save her marriage. She comes up with an idea an "arrangement " that she proposes to her husband. He is on board and they give it a try but things start to go south.
A lot of twists and turns and surprises in this book it will keep you guessing till the very end. A very fun read.
I had struggled how to rate this because for one the narrator of Ainsley was bad. She overdramtized in her reading. The story itself was a bit unbelievable however it was enticing enough to pull me in and kept me interested in the story. So I feel this is a solid 3.5.

I loved THE ARRANGEMENT! It is a quick, fun read full of red herrings. The characters are brilliant, and I enjoyed the alternating POVs. It's hard to say much without giving away spoilers...just know thriller readers will be completely satisfied!

Man, this couple annoyed me. It’s a good story, lots of fun twists and intrigue. I just hated the protagonists so much that I couldn’t make myself care, you know? It’s probably because I’m stuck in the Midwestern US and this couple could absolutely be my neighbors... the ones I avoid at all costs. But, I digress, this is a solid thriller and I’d recommend it, though I would never rave about it.

Ainsley Greenburg’s marriage is in trouble... and she thinks she has just the fix: she and her husband, Peter, will each date someone new once per week, and they will never discuss what happens on said dates. Very quickly, their arrangement takes a sinister turn, and though their trust is fragile, they can only rely on one another. Will the love and trust they once had be enough to see them through?

Ya’ll. This book is WILD!! Every time you think you have *any* idea what is going on, you’re proven wrong. There are so many twists I completely did not see coming. If you love fast-paced thrillers with alternating narrators, this is the book for you. The only issue I had with it has nothing to do with the story itself, rather the female narrator. I’d describe it as listening to a news anchor attempting to be breathy and sexy. I found it incredibly tough to continue listening during Ainsley’s chapters.

Thank you so much to NetGalley, Kiersten Modglin, and Dreamscape Media for the advanced audio copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

This was a quick, fun, twisty audiobook. I really loved the narration and felt like the characters really came to life. I liked the story and especially did like that while there were twists I saw coming there were also twists I did not. I did struggle with why Ainsley was going to such effort to save her marriage in the first place (I don’t want to say more and spoil anything). The idea was definitely interesting. Ainsley and her husband make an arrangement where they can see other people to try to save their marriage. Ainsley places rules upon it like using an anonymous application, no questions about who they date, and they each get one night a week. Both Peter and Ainsley jump in but things quickly become out of control,

I received this an audio ARC through Netgalley. The Arrangement has more twists and turns than a rollercoaster. Extremely unexpected and highly entertaining!

The Arrangement is a story that will keep you on your toes....from one moment to the next things keep changing and becoming more and more involved. The story of a married couple, Peter and Ainsley, they decide to try out an open marriage, only to find that each has more buried secrets (and lies) than either could have imagined.

While I did not like the narrators, I found the story to have head spinning twists and turns. I like to listen to thrillers, and this one really held my attention. It also makes you think how well you really know your partner!

I could not finish this one :(. It just was a slow start and morally I could not get passed this. I thought it would be more of a mystery to it.

Wow! This was full of twists and turns. It keeps you guessing until the end. I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy this as much as I did. Such a wonderful job by the narrator and the author!

Thanks to publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to listen to this awesome audiobook!
