Ancient History is a great book for someone looking for a light romance with an interesting concept. The academic setting, archeological background, and added layer of mystery all work together to make Athena’s story compelling. This book focuses most of its time on the romance and mainly follows Athena, who is experiencing the story in the same time as the reader. Overall, it was a very enjoyable summer read and I will be sure to look out for other books by this author.

I enjoyed the overall premise of this book, but felt many aspects were rushed and could have been better with more depth. The mystery portion of the book was intriguing but I felt like it was hidden too long from the reader. Both love interests were too patronizing for my taste which made it hard to enjoy those relationships fully, but they weren’t completely unenjoyable. Ultimately I would have just liked a little more from both the mystery and the relationship before it wrapped up.

I was excited to read this book it took awhile until something really exciting happened.

The characters were fun and enjoyable and this book includes archeology which is very rare to find in books but the romance was a bit lacking to me it just needed something more.

This is a quick and light read that I found very enjoyable. Although there is an element of suspense in the book there is nothing too dark or involved, and that suits me just fine. I loved the characters and particularly enjoyed the interactions between Jack and Athena. I also enjoyed the different locations explored in this book which were very well described. I would say this is first and foremost a romance novel with a little bit of suspense/mystery mixed in, which sets it apart from other romance novels. Lots of fun with a lovely and poignant ending.

I enjoyed this book, but there were a few things that nagged at me. The romance between the characters felt rushed and the dialogue at times felt very formal and didn’t seem to match the age of the characters. Other than that, it kept me interested and had a good story.

Starting with the positive - I loved the premise of the book and I think the actually storyline was really interesting and engaging. The stuff about the artefact and different places that were visited and talked about in the book were all great. And the chapters are short and I read it very quickly, which I always like.

However, the main bit at the end which was really the only exciting bit, I felt was very rushed, the story with the two romances and little snippets of clues were really dragged out, then the important bit at the end was squashed into a few pages.

Also, so so much of it I uncomfortably cringed at. The cliches were vast and unappealing. The mc Athena, throughout the book, is described as this extremely beautiful woman who is very slim and the only thing that’s big about her is her boobs. She didn’t have any friends in school because she spent her whole time studying and she has this holy virginal quality about her because she’s only slept with two guys at uni and didn’t enjoy it so hasn’t done anything since, somehow this makes her even more attractive. Yeah I couldn’t really deal with this.
And I found Jack creepy af. He basically saw her when she was 16 and he was 22ish and wanted her then (eugh yuck).

People that like romance driven novels with a bit of steamy steam will enjoy this, but the over exaggerating stereotypes ruined it for unfortunately.

This book follows Athena as she deals with the aftermath of her parents death and the mystery that surrounds it. The idea behind the book, the mystery, and inclusion of archaeology were great additions but the romance fell short.

I was excited to read this book, it seemed to be a light hearted romance involving archeology which isn’t frequently touched on in books I’ve read. Unfortunately, this book was fairly predictable in the way it was written, perhaps it was intentional but I would have preferred a bit more mystery to it. The characters were enjoyable and I connected easily to them. It took until about 80% through the book for some excitement to happen and as a result the ending felt rushed. However, the ending was enjoyable. Overall a 2.5 rounded up to 3 for Goodreads.

I obtained a digital version of this book free from Netgalley and BooksGoSocial in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review #AncientHistory.

I was pulled in by the archaeology theme, but this was a let down. Juvenile writing, unidimensional characters and a pretty predictable plot made it a bit of a slog to get through.

I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. I was rooting for Athena from page one and continued to enjoy her story all the way to her happily ever after.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good romance.

I absolutely loved this book!! The plot was so cute, and the writing style was so easy to follow for me. It was a fun little book and such a good one to get out of a slump, or for someone who's looking to ease their way back into the book world.

I was immediately intrigued by the synopsis of this novel for two reasons: 1. I’m an ancient history nerd who once seriously considered pursuing archaeology as a career and 2. I’m a sucker for a romance. And it delivered on both counts, despite the type of romance not being my personal fave!

I’m not a fan of the love-triangle trope. I think it’s overdone, unnecessary, and typically very cringe-y. However, the characters themselves were fun to read and I found myself consistently rooting for Athena’s success and happiness. Plus, the romance aspect mixed with ancient artifact intrigue makes for a surprisingly delicious cocktail that I think anyone would enjoy. So congrats, you’ve convinced this love-triangle hater that maybe not all novels with this trope are all not great!

This is a book that is not too heavy on the brain (aside from some explorations of grief) and is one that can be a very quick read (I finished it in just a few hours time)… it was a 3 star for me! While some of the moments (eg. the love triangle trope, Athena describing herself as “not like other girls”) weren’t for me personally, the concept made me excited and I really believe that the story has potential! I would love to see more romance novels branch out and get as creative with their plots as this one does. Grateful for the opportunity to read this book!

Romance in the archaeological world sign me up. Yes this book is a romance but it’s also a bit of a mystery as well and I love the combination. I also really identified with the main character. A great read.
