This book wasn't quite what I was expecting but I really enjoyed it. Often with self help books the tone can be patronising but this wasn't the case for this book.

The guidance was practical, easy to read with good examples. I felt this book was more of an understanding than helpful but was very insightful none the less.

Thank you for the arc.

Just a Thought by Amy Johnson is a great book on understanding how to look at the way we think, and how our thoughts impact our lives. This book will show you ways how to improve your negative thinking patterns and become more confident. Our thoughts really do define us and how we live our lives. If we could become more positive, our lives will be richer. Amy really tries to explain that our thoughts do not determine our self-worth. Our thoughts also do not define us. The book provided real life stories to display how to change your thoughts and how using these techniques assisted others in improving their thoughts and lives. This book is an easy to use guide to change your thoughts. I highly recommend this book. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advance review copy in exchange for my honest review.

I actually like this book. It teaches how to use these thoughts in so many ways. Also, I like there’s some stories about these individuals expressing their thoughts in different ways.

Just a Thought is a self-help book by Amy Johnson. It aims to provide peace of mind for those suffering from negative/intrusive thoughts. Our minds are constantly at work, they are quick to predict the future, bring up the past, and worst of all, convince you that it knows everything.

Johnson is a coach and psychologist who’s worked with many clients, and she explains that at the end of the day, we are all experiencing the same thing. The only thing that sets us apart, are the small details. We worry about our education, our careers, our homes, our families, etc. If we’re not worrying about the present, we’re worried about our past. It’s a never-ending vicious cycle that creates more pain while our minds are convinced, they’re just trying to help.

I respect and appreciate Johnson’s approach when it comes to labels. In the chapter titled, “Who-You-Are and What You Are Not” she explains that your thoughts don’t define you. Just because you think you are insecure, doesn’t make it so. Just because you think you are incapable; doesn’t mean you are. The chapter that I found most helpful was “Background Noise.” It talked about the importance of seeing the bigger picture rather than hyper focusing on a single detail.

I enjoyed Johnson’s real-life stories, both personal and from her clients. Hearing so many individuals experiencing the same fears and anxieties from all walks of life, proves that we’re not alone. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a hard time quieting their mind. Whether you’re overplaying a situation from years ago, or you’re overthinking a situation that hasn’t happened yet, Johnson provides clarity and different ways to approach things to attain freedom and peace of mind.
