McConaghy’s storytelling is unique. This was my first book of hers and I'll be honest, at first I wasn't quite sure if I liked it. Once I was a few chapters in, however, it has depth, emotion, and is about the good and bad sides of human nature.
One of the characters, Inti has a condition called mirror-touch synesthesia which means she feels whatever she sees—a bird is trapped and she feels the panic as the bird tries to escape, etc. I had never heard of this before so it was very intriguing.
Overall, Once There Were Wolves is a unique and profoundly written novel and addresses environmental issues wrapped neatly in a wonderful story.
Narration: 4/5
I enjoyed the narrators voice, pace, and overall read/performance!
