Cat and Cat: The Quest for Snacks follows two kitties, Squash and Ginny, as they adventure to refill their snack hordes. But alas, chaos ensues, and they end up on an magical journey to find their way back home. Along the way they meet a cast of characters that help them on their journey, just as Squash and Ginny help them back. Eventually they make it back home with the potion of endless snacks in tow.

Overall, I thought it was a cute adventure book for a young reader. Short chapters with happy endings. I can see lots more coming from this series and these kitties. It was light hearted fun with very low stakes, it was never a question of if these cats would get back home eventually or not. Honestly it just felt like it was missing something, it was almost too simple.

I got to say this book was really adorable
It has a unique way of relating to so many other cute graphic novels, but it’s with cats, so that makes it even better

Cats will do just about anything for a snack and this cat duo does just that. Fun, graphic novel for children just starting to read short chapters. Graphic comics make a fun read for the younger set.

Ginny & Squash, two adorable cat friends, go on a quest to find the ingredients for a potion that will promise them never ending snacks!

Very cute, but extremely simple. Perfect for young readers/graphic novel fans.

children's graphic novel (1st-4th grade) - cats, friendship, magic, adventure

Very light reading--great for kids who are reading short chapter books, but with tons of kid appeal--this one will be popular with the kids at the library. I love that one cat has one eye, but wish they could have had a bit more individual personality. Maybe in the next book?

Cats make a surprisingly good subject for a graphic novel. Maybe because they can be so aloof, we wonder what they do with their time. This leads to stories of magical portals and crazy adventures.Does this always make sense? No, but it's pretty entertaining.

I loved that! Such a fun adventure! I enjoyed getting to know Squash and Ginny and all the friends they made. The artwork was fantastic and all the characters were super expressive. I'd honestly love some prints of this to hang on the wall and snippets for all of my reaction image needs. I'll definitely be checking out the other books in this series once they come out.

Thank you to HarperCollins Children's Books, HarperAlley, and NetGalley for providing me with a temporary digital copy in exchange for an honest review.

'Cat & Cat Adventures: The Quest for Snacks' with story and art by Susie Yi is a graphic novel about two cats in search of a potion for endless snacks.

Squash and Ginny live in a home with their humans and all is well until they run out of snacks. Their plan to get more involves a portal and trips to the Mermaid Ocean and Mount Lava. When they get to the Enchanted Rain Forest they have to make a sacrifice, but can they do it.

This was a really cute story of two cats that are clever and funny. They also think about others and those are all good qualities for young readers. The art is as cute as the story.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from HarperCollins Children's Books and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Ginny and Squash are two super cute, very hungry kittens. After their humans leave, they eat all of their snacks. Luckily, they are magical kitties, so they go off on a quest to get the ingredients needed to make an unlimited snack potion.

Children will absolutely love this adorable graphic novel. The cats are too cute, goofy, and are living the dream life (magic AND unlimited snacks? Yes, please!) I will definitely be recommending this graphic novel to new readers.

Susie Yi’s The Quest For Snacks is an adorably cute graphic novel. Early readers will love that this book has chapters, adventure, and cuddly characters who help each other on their quests and form friendships along the way. Kids will not only beg for the next installment in the series, but will also fill pages and pages drawing its two main characters, Squash and Ginny. This will be a welcome addition to any library or elementary classroom collection.

Thanks to NetGalley for the eARC to review.

Squash and Ginny are mischievous and magical cats who are on a quest to eat all the snacks. As soon as their human leaves for the day they use their powers to gather snacks and head to their secret lair. But chaos strikes when they find they have eaten their entire store of snacks!

Squash (who only has one eye, we don’t know why but it is adorable) uses his magic wand and potion maker to find a spell to conjure more snacks. Trouble strikes when curious Ginny uses the magic wand without proper preparations. This starts the pair on an incredible journey into magical lands where they must swim in the Mewmaid Ocean, correctly answer the riddle of the fox volcano spirit to reunite a family of Magma pups, save the bun-fairies from a forest drought and bring all their new friends together for a snack party in order to get back home.

It’s a tall order for a pair of cats, but if anyone can manage it the magical Squash and Ginny can. The graphic novel is colorful and easy to follow. The story is fun and entertaining and a great choice for fans of cats, silliness, snacks, Dogman or Phoebe and Her Unicorn. This would be a great read for a reluctant reader because it is light and fun and the cats keep you intrigued. The story ends with the suggestion of a sequel, and we can’t wait to see what Squash and Ginny get up to next!

The publisher’s summary for this one is perfect, so I’m not going to change it. “One day when their human leaves for work, Squash and Ginny find themselves in the most unfortunate predicament: without snacks. With a little help from a magical portal, the two cats embark on a quest to find ingredients for a potion that will produce unlimited goodies.

At first, their mission doesn’t seem so tough. It takes them on a boat race across Mewmaid Ocean and a hot air balloon ride over Mount Lava. But when the cats reach the Enchanted Rain Forest to gather enchanted rainwater, the last item on their list, their mission runs dry. . . It turns out it hasn’t rained in the Enchanted Rain Forest in weeks! What a cat-astrophe!

Can Squash and Ginny get to the bottom of what’s causing this dry spell and secure the final ingredient they need? Or have Squash and Ginny taken their last bite . . . for good? This chapter book graphic novel debut from Susie Yi is perfect for fans of Catstronauts, Babymouse, and Catwad!”

Squash and Ginny are adorable, and I loved their adventure. It’s three-pronged with obstacles at each step, which creates enough chapters for the middle grade level. The cats make new friends, problem solve, and learn that kindness is more important than comfort, and in doing for others, you get rewarded as well.

Personally, I can’t wait for more Squash and Ginny, and if there are more books in this series, I’ll be back. It’s out on September 7th, just in time for some fun, back to school reading in between school assignments.

thank you, NetGalley for the Advanced Reader's Copy.

This book is perfect for new readers. There is only a sentence or two per page and is so adorable. Squash and Ginny go on an adventure to look for ingredients to make a potion for more snacks. Accidently, they are transported to somewhere else where they use problem-solving and put others before themselves. Squash and Ginny each have unique skills they help them along on the adventure and work together. This will be a great series and look forward to the next one.

Ok, this was cute and sweet. It’s meant for fairly little kids. There’s only a couple sentences a page and they are simply written. The story is a straightforward little quest of a pair of kitty friends going to gather items on a magic quest. In the end they make a sacrifice for someone that needs the help. It’s wholesome and could either be read to someone too young to read or given to a new reader without worry on the content. (Unless a parent is bothered by even the most innocuous and innocent use of fantasy in a storybook.)
If you’re reading it to a kid you won’t hate it on the first go through but you might on the tenth pass or so.
