I really liked the way this was written from different points of view, particularly the podcast. Immediately the scene is set for an excellent domestic thriller packed full of twists and turns. Gripping from the beginning and I will definitely look out for more from Sam Carrington.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for an advance copy.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I must admit that it did not really grab my interest from the off. However, it was not long before before I was immersed in the story and I read the book over a 24 hour period.
The central core of the plot concerns a young woman who has been mugged on the way home from a party and has no recollections about what happened. Her boyfriend who also happens to be her boss's son has moved in with her to help her get her confidence back
The story unfolds as she starts to remember snippets and smells from the night of the attack. Also involved in the plot is a true-crime podcast which adds another dimension to the story. The book is part thriller and part crime story and once into it, I did not see the ending coming until it was revealed in the final chapter.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.
I will refrain from mentioning the blurb as I trust people are capable of reading it if they can read a book.
An entertaining enough read. I liked the introduction of the podcasts into the somewhat erratic timeline. The attacker/murderer was easy to guess from quite early on in the book. Characters were well drawn. Isla was rather irritating. Not sure why the occasional Americanisms crept in and mate? really? Sadly "babe" reared it's ugly head too. Not really your "twisty turny" type of book but that's fine as generally in an attempt to create the "twist" so beloved of many the book spirals into incredulity.
A solid 3.5/5 stars

A dark and twisty page-turner full of intrigue and suspense!

I’m a big fan of Sam Carrington’s books, so I always look forward to this time of year when I can stalk NetGalley for her latest thriller to become available.

Isla’s life is heading in the perfect direction, when she lands herself a promotion at work and bags herself a new boyfriend, Zach – the boss’s son! Unfortunately, her happiness is rather short-lived when she becomes the victim of a vicious mugging whilst on her way home from her promotion party.

Waking in hospital Isla barely remembers a thing! As she struggles to process what happened her boyfriend Zach says he’ll move in to look after her. It is very early days in their relationship so this will either make them or break them!

We follow Isla as she desperately tries to remember what happened to her the night she was mugged. As small memories from before the attack re-surface, Isla becomes worried that the person who hurt her may actually be someone she knows! Like Isla, I very quickly couldn’t trust any of the other characters in this book! With several potential suspects, this makes for an intriguing and suspenseful read!

This book is perfectly paced with a dark and creepy edge to it. Whilst I did guess the outcome, I still loved all the twists and turns and put my prediction down to my exceptional detective skills!

I love that the story features a local true-crime podcast. This is very different and not something I have come across in a book before. Like Isla, I’m also obsessed with listening to them, so this made the main character very relatable to me.

It is not often that a book scares me, but this one has had me looking over my shoulder a few times. I often cut through a park on my way home from work just like Isla did and I am usually listening to a true-crime podcast. I think I’ll take a different route for a while now! 🤣

As always, I love that Sam’s books are based in Devon, which is where I live, it makes it so much easier for me to imagine the setting whilst reading.

This book did make me cry but they were happy tears, and they were not due to the story itself but due to the acknowledgements at the end. Ensure you read them to spot the special shout out to me! Sam’s book The Missing Wife is one of the first books I ever reviewed when I joined the world of book blogging. Since then we have become great friends. I am blown away to be featured in the acknowledgements, so thank you, Sam. It is a pleasure to read and review your work.

If you love a good psychological thriller that will play with your mind, then be sure to check this one out. Thank you to Sam Carrington, Avon Books UK and NetGalley for my copy of this book.

A horrible and painful mugging left Isla almost agoraphobic, Her boyfriend, Zack, has moved in with her and has more or less taken control of her life,. All she's got for metaphorical light is a true crime podcast and she becomes obsessed. The police aren't actively pursuing her attacker so she turns to the podcast for help. What comes next is a tad predictable but focus on Isla's mental health issues. It's a thing now to have podcast chapters in novels and others might enjoy this trend more than I do. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

This was a proper Whodunnit, or should I say Whodunn’em?

From the start this was a captivating read. Full of twists and turns, a great story with a satisfying end.

Isla is a young woman enjoying life. She works and lives in Torquay, recently promoted and is in a new relationship with the boss’s son, Zach. Isla’s best friend Nicci hosts a congratulations party for her and during the evening there are a couple of unusual incidents with two colleagues. At the time, as there has been a lot of alcohol consumed, Isla thinks no more of them. Instead of taking a taxi home Isla decides to walk, meaning to telephone her mam on the way to tell her the good news. It’s quiet, past midnight and she is the only person about. Or is she?

I really enjoyed this story. Told across two timelines, with a narrative from a local podcast thrown in, the plot flows well, and the characters are well described. The story stretches the imagination at times, but this doesn’t spoil the book at all.

A really enjoyable read.

Thank you NetGalley.

Enjoyed this thriller from beginning to end. I like how it slowly developed and kept me guessing if Isla was indeed correct on her speculations and doubts or was this a sign of her accident. Sometimes it felt like Isla was an unrealiable narrator, sometimes I thought it was the best friend Nicci and sometimes I just didn’t like Zac. Really liked how Agatha Christie and the podcast were incorporated into the story, it was a fun touch.

A totally gripping read. Following a mugging Isla is nervous and relying on her boyfriend for support. This is definitely a case of be careful who you trust. An obsession with crime stories helps Isla seek answers. A very twisty tale with an explosive conclusion. So good.

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
what an awesome book!
One taken out of the house dead - one taken out in handcuffs -
Isla celebrates her promotion and because she had been drinking decides to walk home. It is late and she shouldn't do this. And suddenly she is hit on the back of the head and left for dead -
Who tried to kill her? Why? Is is work related?
Zack her boyfriend decides to move in with her and help her heal - but is this the reason - or is it to keep his eye on her?

This story follows a couple who live at Maple Drive called Isla and Zach. Isla was the victim of a brutal assault which left her with amnesia and terrified to leave the home. She starts trying to piece together what happened to her with the help of a True-Crime podcast team.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved how there is a true crime podcast running along in the background, it’s unique and works so well. This book is creepy, dark, gritty and tense. It has some good twists. The storyline packs a punch. A really good psychological thriller!

This book had me gripped from the very beginning. I have to say that for the first few chapters I found Isla extremely irritating and couldn't understand why Zach bothered with her but gradually I began to warm to her and realised she was genuinely frightened not just looking for attention. I loved the way the author used the podcasts where other authors would have had news reports, really up to date. I was really enjoying the story but once Isla had contacted the podcasters the pace really picked up as did the suspense. From here on I was on the edge of my seat, each chapter leaving me breathless with anticipation. The tension was worthy of Alfred Hitchcock. This all culminated in a truly fitting climax. Well worth 5 stars
