A STRANGER’S GAME by COLLEEN COBLE has everything that makes up a most enjoyable romantic suspense novel, complete with some lovable and authentic characters whose emotions are well portrayed. I also like to see Joe Abbott’s faith in God and the way he reminds his daughter, Hailey, that the Lord is always with her, and can bring good out of bad things.
The story takes place on Jekyll Island in Georgia where Joe trains sea lions which are used for apprehending suspicious divers and finding bombs. He is not sure what to think of Torie Berg, the latest hire in the IT department at the prestigious hotel where he works part time in security, especially when she starts asking questions about the recent drowning of a young woman who used to work at the hotel. Things are not as they seem, especially when someone starts playing games with Torie, breaking in to her cottage and leaving her strange messages.
There is a great deal more to the story, but I do not want to spoil the read for you, so I will stop there.
I highly recommend A Stranger’s Game as a thrilling and altogether most enjoyable read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

From the first page I knew that this was going to be a rich read.

Tori Bergstrom, a tall and strikingly beautiful woman has come back to the island to uncover the truth about her best friend's death. She teams up with Joe Abbott, who at first is unwilling and suspicious. A connection is made with Hailey, Joe’s daughter. They find commonality over the deaths of their mother. Many red herrings are planted and who the real culprit is, remains a mystery until the last.

The story plot is well developed. The characters are dimensional and fleshed out. The setting is interesting, with history woven through.

I really enjoyed this book! I've read a few others by Colleen Coble and they are so intriguing they draw you right into the story.

Torie is back on Jekyll Island, where she grew up, to find out what really caused her friend Lisbeth's death. I love the setting and love that the author included the natural setting of the island and the sea turtles in the story. It is a well crafted story - lots of moving parts - the sea lions threw me off guard but wow, what an amazing part of the story! It's a fantastic mystery/romance!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

The mystery took a back seat in this story. It was suspenseful, but it was all about the characters for me. I just loved Torie and Hailey and Joe. I loved how Torie and Hailey connected. I even loved the relationship between Torie and her dad, and I think it could improve in the future (in the fictional world, of course). Joe's work was also really cool. I loved Simon :) God's creation is amazing!

What was weird about the mystery part was that it felt disjointed to me. There was stuff going on with Torie in the present, but she also had the mystery from her past, and then there was Joe's stuff. As it turned out Joe's stuff had nothing to do with Torie's and then it felt like it was pointless. I guess I feel like there was a lot of page time given to things that didn't really mean anything. I never suspected the real villain and in all honesty, I think that kind of fell flat too. The ending/wrap-up seemed kind of out of the blue and rushed. I did suspect Aunt Genivive to be involved in something or someway and that would have made more sense]

I did like the book, it just was a little odd and not quite what I'm used to from Colleen Coble. But her characters were as good as ever! And it was a surprise to walk away from reading a fiction book with a non-fiction book to read, but now I've got to read The Creature of Jekyll Island!

This book was so exciting for me! I finished it yesterday and am still thinking about it and wish that I could return to the story and the characters that were in it!

This author has become a new favorite of mine for her suspenseful writing. I mainly read romance but enjoy throwing in a suspenseful fiction every once in a while.

The story revolves around Torie who returns to her father's hotel to investigate the death of her best friend. She meets a man named Joe and his 8 year old daughter and they team up to solve the mystery. Unfortunately they are met with awful things happening to them throughout the story. This one will definitely keep you on the edge of the couch as you are reading!!

Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book also releases on January 4, 2022.

Torie Bergstrom goes back to Jekyll Island in GA, where she was raised, to try to find out what happened to her best friend. Joe Abbott is living there with his daughter and they feel an instant bond. Torie is the daughter and heir of the owner of the resort, Anton Bergstrom. She is to stay under the radar while she is investigating her friend's death so she is working as an IT specialist at the resort in the same position her friend was in when she died. There is all kinds of chicanery afoot and Joe helps her sort out what happened along with Craig, his friend with the State Police. Lots of action, twists and turns. It keeps you on your toes through the whole story and totally excited about this couple getting together.

I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
