A nice read. The main character, Bet is a female and sheriff assuming the role when her father died. There is one murder but as the story unfolds there are additional murders. Also this is a small community but there are many surprising relationships between the people of the community which add to the story. I enjoyed it.

This is such a wonderfully structured book. The pacing was perfect and was essential for really feeling the story.

The book starts out slow and we meet Bet, who has returned home from LA after her father passed away. She’s readjusting to small town life and filling her father’s shoes. When a scientist finds a body in Lake Collier, things take a turn and Bet starts to unravel years of family secrets.

After the death of her father, Bet Rivers assumes his role as interim sheriff. While she had made up her mind to move to L.A. , she’s compelled to stay in Collier after her strange recurring nightmare comes true. A woman’s body is found in the local lake, no one has been reported missing and she can’t be identified, but she must have mattered to someone. As Bet launches an investigation into the woman’s murder, she realizes that her small town is hiding some big, ugly secrets. Taylor shows us that big cities don’t have the corner on murder and mayhem

Bet Rivers is back in her hometown as the interim sheriff in her fathers place while he undergoes chemo. This small town hold secrets close and now they're coming out.
There's something in the lake. Bodies and monsters. Now Bet is trying to come up with answers before it's too late.
This is an interesting and quick book.

It's a really pretty story, and I'm really excited for the next books after this one. Beth is such a great woman, and the whole small town thing was so lovely! It seems like the city has a life of its own. The writting the writing style is and almost impossible to put down, and the mystery has been extremely well developed. I loved it!

I cannot review this book. It did not download properly, either that or there is a formatted problem. The book seems to be missing letters

I read through this one rather quickly! It's definitely a page Turner! Warning: if you read this, make sure you don't have anywhere important to be because you probably won't put it down until you're done!

Moments of angst followed by a breathing point, kept me on the edge of my seat until the very last page. Enjoyable twisting story!

When Elizabeth (Bet) Rivers returns to a small town in Washington, it is because her father has passed away. He had been the sheriff there for many years and his last wish was she come home and fill in for him. She gave up her job as a law enforcement officer in Los Angeles, but now has second thoughts about staying in Washington, as she is up for election soon.

She feels a lot of pressure, knowing the townspeople are comparing her to her father ..and her deputy is resentful since he thought the job would go to him. And just to rub it in, he's running for sheriff against her.

When a body is found floating in Lake Collier, she investigates only to find that no one seems to know who the victim is. Determined to prove herself worthy, however, Bet must confront the warped history of Collier. The more she learns, the more she realizes she doesn't know the townspeople of Collier as well as she thought, and nothing can prepare her for what she is about to discover.

This well written crime fiction is filled with suspense from the very first page. Bet is a terrific character.... she has her issues, but she's feisty and determined to show what she's made of. There are twists and turns that lead to an unexpected conclusion. Hopefully, this will not be the last we see of Bet.

A gripping mystery full of turns you won't see coming. There is a large cast of intriguing characters. Bet is a complex character and I look forward to seeing her develop even more. This small town setting is almost a character in itself. There is a lot going on and several cases to solve. I especially like the author's writing style. I felt drawn in and became totally absorbed in the story. The ending was perfect. Things are wrapped up well while paving the way for future books. I will definitely read the next one.
