My first impression of First Love, Take Two is that it seems to include a lot of doctor lingo. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it might not always come across. We also notice right away that our main character has Indian heritage and we can sadly plan to see her experiences with racism.

I really love that this is a second chance romance with a touch of enemies to lovers because of the way their relationship ended in the past. Our main characters' also get to be roommates while they work out how they feel about each other which is such a fun scenario to read about in a romance.

Preti and Daniel seem to have a lot of sexual tension mixed with adorable awkwardness which is the perfect recipe for a great romance in my opinion. I hadn't heard about First Love, Take Two until I saw the sneak peek but Sanji Patel's writing quickly won me over and I cannot wait to read the finished copy

As this is only a preview of a completed book, I can only judge based on what I've read thus far.

I enjoyed the opening (um... polyps and raspberries!) and it had me laughing at the start. However, as I progressed through the first few chapters, I found that I was a little overwhelmed and trying to make sense of what was going on. It felt very much like an info dump and that I was being told rather than shown. Some of the parts seemed a bit choppy and that I was missing key information to help establish why things were happening (like why the dinner invite?). Perhaps this comes from me not having read the previous book in the series so I don't have a knowledge base of the characters and the 'world' they exist within.

I loved that the MC is a soon-to-be doctor and I love the forced proximity/one-bed trope. I also enjoyed getting to be told some of the conflicts at the start - though I wonder if that takes away from potential tensions later as the reader already knows what the problem is?

Overall, I think this would be a book I'd be tempted to try full length, just perhaps I need to read the previous book first :)

From the very first word, you will be SUCKED into this story. I need more of this novel! Patel paints and clear and vibrant picture. I read Patel’s other novel The Trouble with Hating You and was underwhelmed with the love story, already in these 4 short chapters, I can tell this one is better. Forced proximity romance second chance romance? Sign me up, I need to see what’s next in this love story.

Another preview that has me absolutely chomping at the bit for more more MORE! I'm such a fan.

I love a leading lady with ambition and drive and so Preeti was just someone I felt totally drawn to. She was smart and just delightful. I loved the author's sensitive but very realistic portrayel of interracial couples and their dynamics, including the parts that are hard to talk about. I also really enjoyed the creative user of the forced proximity trope which is one of my favourites, but one that can write easily feel well, forced! In this book I didn't get the sense that it's going to feel that way as things progress. The relationships felt natural and well realized, and the characters didn't feel cheesy or underdeveloped.

Overall I think this preview will really draws people to pick up a copy, myself included!

Thank you for this preview, NetGalley, Grand Central Publishing, and Forever!

𝔹𝕠𝕠𝕜: FIRST LOVE, TAKE TWO by Sajni Patel (@SajniPatelBooks)

ℝ𝕒𝕥𝕚𝕟𝕘: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

ℝ𝕖𝕝𝕖𝕒𝕤𝕖 𝔻𝕒𝕥𝕖: 9/21/21 from Forever (Grand Central Publishing), Hachette

𝔾𝕖𝕟𝕣𝕖: Adult rom com

𝕆𝕟𝕖 𝕨𝕠𝕣𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕕𝕖𝕤𝕔𝕣𝕚𝕓𝕖 𝕚𝕥: quotable

𝕊𝕙𝕠𝕣𝕥 𝕡𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙: A doctor who’s supposed to prioritize logic over passion strategically breaks up with her boyfriend. Years pass, and their mutual friend sets them up to be roommates. Can they give their love a second chance?

𝕎𝕙𝕒𝕥 𝕀 𝕝𝕚𝕜𝕖𝕕: Ahhh!! The main reason why I liked this book was that it’s infuriatingly swoony and extremely quotable. “Pursuing passion can destroy generations’ worth of hard work” is probably my favorite. Note: all quotes are taken from the ARC and are not final. ❤

Preeti is a doctor, and she’s overwhelmed with all these different medical responsibilities—taking her coworkers shifts, mentoring newer doctors, doing a bunch of case studies—just to land a job with good pay. Not only that, but she used to have a boyfriend named Daniel. But his dad coerces her into ending the relationship because they’re from completely different cultures and he’s rich and she’s an immigrant, so she’s “not worthy.” She breaks up with Daniel (and he doesn’t even know why, because she doesn’t want to strain his relationship with his dad!). I LOVE LOVE LOVE how the author explored the interracial couple’s dynamics. Preeti’s been avoiding Daniel since, which has been pretty easy since he moved to another state. Except… now he’s back, and he’s her roommate because their mutual friend set them up. This was a brilliant execution of the forced proximity trope!!

Since I only got to read the first 4 chapters, the things I didn’t like are pretty nitpicky: The beginning of the book focused on the doctor part, and then it did a 180 and focused on the romance. I really wish they were more intertwined. There was also more telling than showing. We were told that Daniel was swoony to Preeti and his touch (accidentally brushing hands) made her melt, but he seemed understandably hurt and closed off all the time and…not charming/flirty. Also, we keep hearing that they used to love each other fiercely, without holding back, but I wish it was shown to us in a flashback or something!!!

Overall, this book was really swoony and there was a lot of laughing and saying “oh my god.” And I feel like the things I noted in the previous paragraph will probably be resolved as the story continues. I would love to get my hands on a complete copy of this story! And I am now obsessed with the second chance romance trope!!!

SO GOOD! I am so excited for this book and loved this little sneak peek! I really enjoyed Sanji Patel's other book, The Trouble with Hating You. Her writing style is so beautiful and she never takes too long to get to the story. I love these adult romances because the characters always have lots of chemistry even when they're not a couple yet. I cannot wait to read the full book!

Very cute start! I didn't realize, again, that this is part of a series that can still be read independently. I think this one would be fine to read without reading the others but it definitely called back to events that seemingly happened in the first book. I'm assuming that since this was the first 4 chapters, more than usual callbacks were there and that moving forward it would stand pretty much alone. I plan to read the first one before finishing this when it comes out in September but I think you would be fine not to.
So far, I love Preeti! I love that she is ambitious and funny and confident in herself. I can't wait to read more!

I adored The Trouble With Hating You from Sajni Patel, so I clicked SO fast on the preview for this next installment in her series! How I can be so hooked to the story after only 4 chapters is exciting for how the full book is going to play out. I can't wait to read all about Preeti's quest for love (and what her family will have to say about it).

Thank you Forever Publishing for the first few chapters of this book.

I absolutely loved the trouble with hating you from Sajni Patel, so I have been waiting with bated breath for the next in the series! I love that this book follows Preeti and her quest for love. Her family plays a large part of her life and they must be comfortable with who ever she chooses.

Thank you so much for the first few chapters. I can’t wait to read them all!

How was I so hooked with just four chapters? When I read the description for this book, I immediately knew that it would be interesting, but I didn’t realize how it would leave me wanting more. This book focuses on an interracial couple and is a second chance romance. What I loved most about it (so far) was that it straight-up addressed the racism that is quite prevalent in the Indian community as a whole. I am excited to see how it is tackled and really hope that the two MCs can fight against the ridiculously unjust society. I’m also really excited to see the whole “exes living together trope.” I love a good second chance romance and this book pairs that up with the roommate trope. What I am most excited about is seeing my culture in a new adult novel and I hope to read about the good and the bad. I do hope that I can get an ARC for this book but if not, I am definitely buying it as soon as it is out!

I was excited to read this book, and forgot I was reading a preview. I got to the end of chapter 4 and was depressed to find no chapter 5! Based on what I’ve read so far, I can’t wait to read the entire book. I wasn’t approved for the book sadly, so I’ll have to wait until September.
5 stars.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Preeti Patel is nearing the end of her residency and trying to juggle the stress of her residency, finding a job, her family, and trying to find a place to stay now that her roommate is married. However, the new place that she has found comes with a roommate - her ex Daniel Thompson, who she never really got over.

I found I was completely hooked by these four chapters. I loved the richness of all the characters, the way that each of the personalities leapt off the page and became so real to me. I have to confess, I absolutely loved meeting Daniel and his extended family in chapters 3 and 4. Sajni Patel has such vivid descriptions, and I found myself engrossed in everything from the medical descriptions in chapter 1 up through to the food descriptions in chapter 4. I can't wait to see what happens next between Preeti and Daniel.

Thank you to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for the preview.

I didn’t really care for the dialogue. That along with the introduction of new characters felt a little choppy. I thought the story was cute but the progression was a little stilted. Might just not be for me!

Sajni Patel writes with a passion that engulfs the reader from the onset. Her vivid vocabulary and descriptive cultural references invite readers from all backgrounds to not only appreciate the story being told but also to respect and learn from the perspectives of each generation of characters. Shedding light on cultural and societal issues in a romantic genre is not an easy task, but it was done so well in The Trouble With Hating You and from the first four chapters of First Love, Take Two, I can tell it will be well done again. The first four chapters seamlessly began where The Trouble With Hating You ended and focus on Preeti and Daniel. I look forward to seeing how these two characters grow into themselves for themselves and each other.

I'm hooked! Daniel and Preeti had me from almost the first moment. I can't wait until September to read the rest! Sajni Patel has once again nailed the character writing. They feel really real and thought out. They characters really jump off the page. Preeti's narration is quirky and I can tell the romance is going to be strong and steamy but I'm anticipating that the book will also discuss important themes such as racism and mental health.

Wow! She does it AGAIN! The Trouble With Hating You is one of my favorite Romance novels of all time so I’ve been waiting for this new edition!

It’s killing me that I have to wait until September to finish but I am so happy I’ve gotten a glimpse into what’s to come!

One of my favorite things about Sajni’s writing is her illustration through words. I could picture each character exactly as she described them. I felt like the grandparents were my grandparents. I could feel Preeti’s anxiety or Daniel’s tension. The personalities, emotions and energy she described really jumped through the pages.

It’s no easily feat being in an interracial relationship nor being accepted into different cultural backgrounds. So the concept of this book is definitely a worthy view point and I’m interested to see how Sajni continues to work the dynamic further into the literature. Overall, I am loving where this book is heading!

This preview looks very interesting after just having finished the first book in the series. Even though it was only the first 4 chapters, it was a different tone than I was expecting and I can't wait until September when I get a chance to finish it! Can't wait to read more about Preeti and Daniel!

I love this book already! The first four chapters roped me in and I can't wait to read the whole thing when it comes out. I need to know what happens between Daniel and Preeti! All of the characters that have been introduced so far are vibrant and fun. I'm always a sucker for a second-chance romance!
