The characters were well-developed, and I found myself invested in their lives. The plot was well thought out and had enough twists and turns to keep me on the edge of my seat. I appreciated the attention to detail, and the author did a great job of creating a vivid world that was easy to picture in my mind.
The themes explored in the book were thought-provoking and gave me a lot to consider. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story with well-developed characters.
Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this book and would definitely read it again. It was a great addition to my reading collection, and I can't wait to see what else this author has in store.

A Trent & Aria Mystery Thriller Book 1
Looking for a fresh start after a relationship break up Trent moves to a rural area and finds work on a property. Out walking he discovers two women with horrific injuries and only one of them still alive. Despite her trauma Aria survives and forms a bond with her saviour. Their feelings towards each other grow despite past events. Not long after Trent’s own life is threatened and he survives an attack which could have killed him. He discovers something in his past may have returned to seek justice.
I found the opening chapter a fantastic start to a novel. It was descriptive and lured me into the story. I also enjoyed the rural setting and Trents life certainly didn’t make boring reading!

I am so on the fence about this story. I enjoy stories I do not know the end to but then again I want some clues. I enjoyed most of the characters but BFF was written as if the author kept forgetting who the character was. The story was fast moving and a quick read but some of it was so far from realistic I skipped over sections. See why I am on the fence?

This novel is action packed and fast paced. Trent Lemend is a young man with a lot of baggage which he tries to leave behind and start again. Coming upon a crime scene in the course of his work starts off the action and it never stops. Many flashbacks explain Trent’s backstory, which I found kept my interest and each one reveals a few more details that were left out the first time. Not really my genre of book but all in all the twist and turns kept me guessing the whole way through. I like it when I can't figure out whodunnit. Recommend.

I struggled with this, so I feel generous even giving it three stars. I didn't think I would EVER finish, and the only reason I kept reading is that reviewers talked about a shocking twist at the end. I didn't want to miss that (should have just skipped to the end), so I persevered. To my huge disappointment, I got to the end and didn't find ANY kind of twist. Did I read the same book as the rest of you?

Language warning, also.

I really enjoyed this book. Character development was good. The plot was very interesting. Not a lot of typos.

Trent is asked by his boss to check an old house on his farm but when he gets there he's not prepared for what awaits him. He finds the body of a dead woman and another woman chained to the ceiling covered in blood. Later Trent is attacked at his home and a hunt begins for someone trying to kill him him.
I found the story an ok read, I found myself disliking Trent from the beginning and had a hard time believing the story while it was unfolding. There is plenty of confrontations and fighting which may appeal to others.

Trent Lemend starts over in a rural town in Texas after his fiancé Elizabeth Reinhardt walks out on him. Obtaining a part-time job on a ranch, he never expected to discover a crime scene while doing a routine check around the place. Calling the authorities, they examine the scene and uncover two bodies, one of which is ‘emaciated’ but alive.

His life is now threatened upon discovering the bodies and his past creeps upon him. Believing the murderer to be on his heels, he must now protect himself and his fiancé who is unaware of her involvement in the murderer’s plans.

Trent is the first main protagonist of the story that we get an idea of. His story is very interesting especially when it revolves around the women in his life. I believe he has bad luck with women as his first love tricked him and his current love left him without much reasoning. I think Trent has a caring, concerning, and accommodating personality. He is ambitious but he always gets himself in situations that require him to think of the other person rather than himself, hence his unstable jobs.

The second main protagonist is the lady he saved Aria when discovering the crime scene. Not much is known about her story as yet since they only met at the last minute when Trent got himself in a sticky situation. Although she is yet to be a major person in his life, they do not have a romantic relationship but see each other as more of a confidant and support system due to their past memories. I believe Trent and Aria's relationship is yet to develop, they have a strong bond, and she would not let him suffer because she feels it is a sign that she must stay with him since he saved her.

When I first began to read Blood Red Winter, I found it to be addictive. The scenes were explicitly described, and I found it funny how Trent always seems to land himself in the worst predicament because he does not listen, especially to the authorities at the beginning of the novel.

Of all the characters in the book, my favorite is Aria, she is a strong woman and a fighter. Her ability to move on from that terrible experience is what I love the most. It will always be imprinted in her memory, but she has chosen to analyze things differently and live her life.

I liked the flow of the story; it goes back and forth to his life before and after discovering the scene on the ranch. The book was quite a catch because I did not expect the story to flow the way it did. The characters were lovable, I especially like the sheriff because he tried to guide Trent while they investigated the threats and murder he was at the centre of.

This is my first novel by J.A Conrad, I am amazed by her storytelling and writing. I immediately thought about searching and reading more about her. Once I read that the novel is a series, I was excited. I instantly fell in love with this series and to wait on the release of the other novels would be torture.

I rate Blood Red Winter 5 out of 5 stars because I loved the characters, the plot and the excitement I felt while reading it. There were suspense, mystery, and thrills; I would recommend this book to mystery readers. It is an interesting and captivating story. You will love it!!!

A nice and fast thriller with decent characters and quite gripping mystery.

This book started off on a very strong note, however for me, it quickly became too far-fetched to be believable. I struggled to finish this one, having to put it down and come back to it more than once, but I continued on in the hopes that it would get better.

Sadly, I just had too many issues with this one to give it a higher rating. For one thing, the jumping from present day to events that happened when Trent was a teenager quickly became annoying. I understand what the author was trying to do, but sadly, it just didn't work for me. I was also rather disappointed in how the author chose to end things (not to mention the budding relationship between Trent and Aria was really just weird and out of character for me).

This author does have a strong writing style however, so I still think this book will appeal to others more than it did to me. However, I doubt I will continue on with this particular series.

This is one of those books where it is impossible to tell who is the “bad guy” - really clever in structure and character building. The main character is one of those nice guys who is also incredibly frustrating because he just keeps landing himself in situations where he looks like he has done something wrong. The relationship with a crime victim adds a sense of hope for the future. The fight scenes were alarmingly detailed and covered many pages. A bit much for me and not sure they really added to the story but perhaps will appeal to readers who have stronger stomachs…

An ok read but the story and the main character, Trent, just did not keep my attention. There's only so much angst over lost girlfriend, someone shooting at you that I can take. Sorry. Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

So many twists and turns! One thinks that it will be a confusing tale, but somehow the author makes it all make sense. There is an interesting twist at the end.

Page turner that will keep you wondering what the heck is going to happen to Trent next! The poor guy is like Job, but keeps on trucking and moves you right along with him and the story moves relentlessly forward. Felt for Trent who seemed to have his past attached with no forgiveness, but what an underdog. Definitely recommended.

This book really as all the intrigue, lots of mystery and action right from page one.
I thoroughly enjoyed Trent's narrative and boy does he have some issues. Probably the most unlucky guy I have ever seen written.
A couple of things that I did not enjoy: some of the plot twists came on very quickly and were not very believable, which all make sense when you get to the end but it almost seemed like a bad movie, where the writers are trying to fit every way of killing someone into the story.
The shocking twist at the end was unraveled in a strange way and one that I didn't find particularly well done.
Overall I would give this book a strong 3/5 stars. It's definitely worth a read and I am wanting to see where these characters go next.

I read this in one sitting! I really liked the descriptions in this book, made me feel as if I was there. There were a few moments where I thought I knew who had done it but I was wrong. The ending was satisfying as well as shocking, without being too unrealisitc. Thank you for my ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for giving me the chance to review Blood Red Winter by J. A. Conrad.

Straight off the bat - I loved it. This is the first book in the Trent and Aria's story. There are already four more books in the series. I can not wait to read them.

The book starts off with Trent finding two people in an abandon house of which one is dead and the other is Aria who is in a critical condition. Soon after this, somebody is trying to murder Trent. Are the two connected or are they separate occurrences that coincidentally happen at the same time? You will need to read the book to find out. The book repeatedly goes back 12 years in time to when Trent was a teenager and his life with Mary, and then returns to the present time. Once you are reading the book this all makes sense.

Aria survives the abandon house murder and is a support to Trent as he goes through his own trauma from the attempts on his life.

This is a winner and I am pleased to have gotten in on the initial book.

I have no hesitation in giving this a 5 star rating. If you like murder mystery this is certainly one for you.
