I really enjoyed this cookbook. Here's why:
+It explains why a Mediterranean way of eating works
_It gives recommended amounts of daily exercise and even lists meals and snacks to eat before and after exercise
+There are recipes for breakfast, soups and salads, appetizers and snacks, side dishes, chicken and poultry, beef and lamb, pork, seafood and fish, vegetarian dishes, and desserts
+Most of the ingredients are readily available and easy to find in any grocery store

I can't wait to try several of these recipes!

Quite an effective read! This book has all the essentials of a strong recipe book including an introduction to the variety of Mediterranean cultures and foods, and quite an impressive list of resources, including tips, tricks and nutrition facts including calories.

Splurge on this, it is worth it

I'm like most people and want to try to eat a healthy lifestyle. The Mediterranean Diet is exactly that! To me, it's not a diet at all, but a change in lifestyle.

I loved this book because it offered many easy recipes that allow you to to enjoy this type of lifestyle and not feel deprived, With emphasis on fresh fruits and veggies along with the right grains and seafood, you will not want for anything else. It even includes desserts!!

If you are looking for an easy to follow book of recipes that fall into the Mediterranean category, this is a great book for you if you are just getting started or if you have eaten this way for awhile.

This is a short, and certainly not all encompassing, cookbook with some great pictures and a lovely layout. Each recipe has a full nutritional panel included. I give this book 3.5/5.
The author begins with some suggestions about weight loss and how to time the eating of foods with exercise to get the most out of both. He mentions “delicious weightloss” – how often do you see those two words in the same sentence? And yes, there are some dessert recipes included.
The recipes often do use nutrient dense, high fibre, low calorie ingredients; the suggested serving sizes are also very tiny. It is not surprising that this keeps the calories down.
One aside: the Zucchini Patties recipe never does tell the reader to add the zucchini to the rest of the ingredients. An unseasoned cook would be left wondering whether to cook them with the scallions and garlic, or to add them raw to the bowl with the rest of the ingredients before forming everything into patties. The rest of the recipes seem to have good, detailed directions.

Peter Minaki’s 400-Calorie Mediterranean Diet Cookbook is amazing! This book, full of recipes, advice, and tips on the Mediterranean diet, will help you lose weight by focusing on lowering inflammation and improving your health. I can’t wait to try the pumpkin soup!

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC. Some of the recipes seemed nice but they made SO MUCH. Everything seemed to be for at least 8 people. And so much meat for a Mediterranean cookbook.

Visually appealing, easy-to-follow recipes. Diet and exercise information contained in first chapter is easy to follow and written in an approachable, non-judgmental way.

I have lost over 100 lbs over the past three years via intermittent fasting. Since I have been following the 5:2 diet, I was intrigued by the 400- Calorie Mediterranean Diet cookbook. I have read enough to know the Meditteranean diet is healthier and better for you. I really enjoyed that the recipes included nutritional information and the metric conversion section of the cookbook. I would definitely recommend this for anyone one looking for healthier options for cooking. Like all cookbooks some of the recipes I will probably never make, but some will definitely become staples like the Pasta with Arugula and Brie, and the Berries and Meringue,

Thanks to Netgalley, Adams Media and Peter Minaki for the chance to read and try recipes from this book.

This cook book is awesome! I have tried making the yogurt with soy milk (dairy allergy) and it totally works! I love how all the recipes are healthy and give me so many new recipes to try. It is informative as well and I love knowing more about the Mediterranean diet. 5/5 for this cookbook. #netgalley

I loved this pictorial guide to delicious Mediterranean dishes. The first chapter, Lose Weight with the Mediterranean Diet, was incredibly helpful in knowing what/when to eat and how to work out based on what you are eating. The recipes are specific, easy to follow, and have beautiful pictures provided. Nutritional content is provided for each recipe, which I found to be very helpful when creating a meal plan with calories in mind. There are lots of additional tidbits and pieces of advice embedded all throughout, so be sure you don’t skip pages. A wonderful resource that will find a permanent home on my kitchen bookshelf.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.

I continually hear about the Mediterranean Diet and I enjoy combing through cookbooks and magazines for new recipes to try. Honestly there has never been many recipes to make me think I could make it a lifestyle. This book actually gave me a few to consider, though my favorite was the Almond Tangerine Bites in the dessert section - this is probably part of my problem in embracing this lifestyle. Overall this book was very clean and easy to read - I hate recipes that are cluttered and hard to find my place again when I'm in the midst of cooking. The pictures were beautiful but there were not nearly enough of them. It is often the picture of the recipe that makes me want to try it. We eat with our eyes first. Lastly, I really like the little information boxes on most of the recipes that gave you some history of the ingredients, where to find obscure ingredients, or why a particular ingredient was included.

Thanks to #Netgalley and Adams Media for an advanced e-copy of this cookbook in exchange for my honest opinion.

I have been watching to try the Mediterranean Diet for a while. While I will say, of course, I have not tried all of the recipes I have tried some and they are very good.
This is a good cookbook to help me understand the diet and start using it.

A decent addition to the multitude of Mediterranean Diet cookbooks. The setup is very attractive and easy to read, the color scheme of predominantly blue and white is a nice nod to the regions. There's a basic explanation of the diet, what it involves, why it's useful, ect. And recipes broken down into the standard categories - breakfast, soup/salads, appetizers, sides, mains, and desserts. I really like how it broke the main dish into type of meat categories - poultry, lamb, fish, etc.
The dishes are all realistic, meaning the average home cook will either have the ingredients or will be able to easily find them. My only issue is that there is a lot of added sugar and milk, particularly in the breakfast recipes. If someone is following the diet for health reasons, it might be better to include substitute options (soy, almond milks) or rethink the added sugar

As an Italian American losing weight with our normal meals isn’t always the easiest. (Lots of pastas and carbs). This cookbook keeps the flavors we know while cutting the calories significantly.

There’s recipe sections for different meats as well as side dishes/vegetables. Plus breakfast and desserts. It’s definitely a “diet” you can easily follow. I do with there were more pictures with the recipes.

I love this cookbook! Mediterranean food is a big favorite of mine and this book is filled with recipes I will use. I highly recommend it if you want delicious recipes that don't go over 400 calories.

We all know that the best, healthiest way to eat is the Mediterranean diet, right? Lots of fish, vegetables, fruit and healthy fats. Healthy fats? Really? Does that sound too good to be true? In The 400-Calorie Mediterranean Diet Cookbook, Peter Minaki shows you how to prepare tasty main dishes, side dishes, breakfasts, soups, salads and more. There are 100 recipes and all have no more than 400 calories reach.

The cookbook begins with an excellent, thorough discussion of weight loss, what works and what doesn’t. Along with healthy eating, the author stresses exercise at increased energy levels and meals planned to fuel that increase. The recipes, all beautifully illustrated with mouthwatering photographs are varied and include extra tips to make cooking simpler. These are delicious and easy to prepare for anyone, not just those who would like to lose weight. 5 stars.

Thank you to NettGalley, Adams Media and Peter Minaki for this ARC.

I didn’t get it for an attempt at weightloss, but rather to get ideas of Mediterranean recipes (with a little less of the heavy desserts they usually have and maybe a little less oil).
And while the introduction is interesting and there are plenty of options (breakfast, sides, soups, meaty mains, seafood, vegetarian and desserts) the lack of pictures and overall layout and presentation of the book didn’t inspire me at all.
A couple of recipes were interesting, but too many of them I couldn’t quite picture because I was trying to learn about the cuisine so I didn’t know what to expect as a result of most recipes.
