"Hitler and His Inner Circle: Chilling Profiles of the Evil Figures Behind the Third Reich" provides a detailed exploration of the key figures surrounding Adolf Hitler during one of the darkest periods in human history. While the book offers a wealth of information and insights into these individuals, it also presents certain drawbacks that impact the overall reading experience.

One of the book's notable strengths is its thorough research and extensive coverage of the key figures within Hitler's inner circle. The author delves deep into the lives, personalities, and roles played by individuals like Joseph Goebbels, Heinrich Himmler, and Rudolf Hess, shedding light on their backgrounds and motivations. This comprehensive approach allows readers to gain a nuanced understanding of the complex web of personalities that influenced and enabled the horrors of the Third Reich.

Excellent introduction to Hitler’s henchmen and inner circle and a book that should be judged on its own merits rather than what it isn’t. It’s not pretending to be an in-depth study but offers brief biographical sketches, presenting the key facts in a concise and accessible way. A stepping stone to further reading and especially useful for younger people who may not be as familiar with these characters as older people necessarily are. Highly recommended.

This was a short and precise biography book. I thought the writing was done well and it had a quick and easy-to-follow layout. I thought the information was interesting and there were some points in this that I hadn't heard before. It did feel a little too brief in places and certain biographies felt rushed over.

5 Star – Loved Loved Loved this book and will go onto my Favourites Shelf
I’d give this book 3 Stars.
I’d highly recommend this book, whether the reader is well versed in World War II and Hitler’s Inner Circle or wanting to find out information without having to delve into biographies of this men, and in some cases women. There are a few pages dedicated to each person, some of them well known while others not. The author lists background information, with family history, their contribution (I’m not exactly sure how to word this otherwise) to the Nazi party and to World War II, and how they died. In some cases, it took years for the Nazi to face consequences surprisingly.
I enjoyed how the notes of various psychologists who interviewed members of Hitler’s Inner Circle before the Nuremburg Trials were included, as well as diary entries from the person and the ones around them. The chapter dedicated to each person may be short, but it is extremely informative and left me wanting to investigate further.
I’d buy the Kindle version of this book, but I don’t think that I’d get a physical copy of it. It would be a good one to dip into when I wanted to brush up on a particular Nazi in the future. So, as I have mentioned before, this is one that should be within easy reach for anyone who likes reading about World War II.

I felt this was good as an introduction to the various figures involved within the Nazi Party. I feel this is no more than an introduction as more detail on a lot of figures mentioned here can be found in other books. There are a number of interesting facts that I didn't know about some of them.

While I would not require that my students buy/read the book, I probably would suggest it to them and perhaps excerpt a few sections. I would certainly use some of the information here in my class. There were a lot of details I was unaware of despite years of study on this subject and I appreciated the variety of perpetrators discussed in the book. While some are pretty well known, Roland has included some more obscure (yet still important) actors. Each section is detailed enough to be new and interesting yet co9ncise enough to avoid being intimidating - highly readable.

My one concern in the book is that I found some details/interpretations that were presented as uncontested fact when I know other scholars do not always fully share those opinions (for example, was Hitler beaten as a youth?).

Most of the individuals appearing in this book were known to me from previous readings on this subject, with a few new ones, which was handy. However, the book's coverage of each person and highlights of his/her "career" in the Nazi party were woefully short for my taste, which is somewhat understandable considering the number of personages covered herein. The chapters were rather short as well as a result, which appeals to some readers, but not to me. Not too much new information was offered except on the characters I wasn't too familiar with to begin with. Not at all a bad book, as it does introduce the cast of "bad guys" to a beginning reader in this subject, but I prefer a much more in-depth presentation.

Well written and well researched but these men were just the epitome of evil. I definitely appreciated the different looks at Hitler and his associates. I hope the world learns from these past mistakes and terrors to never allow atrocities such as these to continue.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by NetGalley.

While this book was filled with great information, I felt like it really lacked in substance and on delivery. Its a great first book if you're not familiar with the Inner Circle that surrounded Hitler, but not a book I'd eagerly recommend

This book is jam-packed full of information about both the famous and also lesser-known members of Hitler’s “inner-circle”. The layout of the book works well, with a chapter based on each individual containing photos and key points as well as a more in-depth look at their lives.

A fantastic collection of profiles of people whose behaviour has baffled so many of us. How could these seemingly ordinary men commit acts of pure evil? Drawing on evidence from interviews and psychological profiling, this is a must for anyone interested in exploring what makes people do what they do, and how they justify it when they get caught.

This book is very easy to read. Each person has their own chapter and a brief biography of them. The volume covers all the major players who worked for/fawned over Hitler and lists the part they played in the atrocities, women ans men alike.

There are some great pictures.

Even as long as I have read about the Nazi insiders, I still remain amazed at how many said, “I was just following orders.”

I can't speak to the writing style as the format does not allow speculation. It may be said that it is a brief synopsis of each person, with no embellishment. Thus style and format do not figure.

I want to thank NetGalley and Arcturus Publishing for forwarding to me a copy of this book for me to read and review. The opinions expressed here are my own.
