I truly love fast paced, edge of your seat, page turning, heart stopping books and this book truly delivers all of that and then some! Kidnapping, murder, torture, a psycho, and a few surprises.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Entertaining, but a “been there, read that” feel.

⏰ 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫: Dani Callahan lost her daughter Tinsley 5 years ago - she was taken. Right from school. By a woman who looked a lot like Dani. A parents’ worst nightmare. This traumatic event propelled Dani into a new life as a private investigator, helping others to find their loved ones. Divorced now and working with her side-kick-chick Quinn (whose mother went missing), they take on the case of a missing 17 year old named Ali. As Dani delves deeper into this kidnapping case, thoughts of her own experiences broil under the surface as new information is found. Will Ali be found? And will Dani ever get the closure she’s waited for 5 years now?

💡𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: I was mostly entertained, easily drifting off into the story, clinging to the same thoughts and hopes of the protagonist who I could cheer for AND was vested in. Very well written there. Alternating to the view of Ali made the story more interesting and did give it a solid edge of suspense. Generally a good mystery, but a “been there/done this” feeling left me a bit let down and wanting. Too tidy. Not enough grit for me to chew on.

😍𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨: those looking for a quick read, not too much thinking, fast-paced, beach-read.

🙅‍♀️ 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨: If you’ve read a lot of mysteries and like them more on the realistic side, you’ll likely be left wanting.

Count to Three is an engrossing thriller. I was immediately sucked into the disappearance of Tinsley. The story moved on with Dani’s new career as a private investigator. I enjoyed the way that she and Quinn worked together and then Ethan entered the story and won my heart. Carlin was pure evil times one hundred and his treatment of Ali made me nauseous.
I was disappointed in the ending though. I was so hoping for more of the story to involve Tinsley and the ending was just a let down for me.
A quick enjoyable read. Many thanks to T.R. Ragan, Thomas &Mercer, and NetGalley for affording me the opportunity to read an arc of this recently published book. Keep writing T.R. Ragan!,

After her daughter Tinsley, age five, goes missing, Dani Callahan doesn’t leave any stone unturned to find her and get her back home. But after five long years Tinsley is still missing. Dani’s marriage is over, her husband waiting on the birth of his new baby, pushing her to let the past go. Dani works as a PI, helping other families getting the happy ending she never did.
Tis was another great read from T. R. Ragan! I loved how Dani never gave up the hope on her baby girl. And yes, I hate strong feelings about Matthew. Couldn’t stand him from the start. But my true hero was Quinn. She had spunk and was fierce, I love that. And of course there’s Ethan. This boy was just great! Highly recommended.

Count to three by T.R. Ragan.
On her first day of kindergarten, five-year-old Tinsley disappeared without a trace…
Five agonizing years later, her divorced mother, Dani Callahan, is a private investigator. She and Quinn Sullivan, a promising young assistant determined to prove herself, are devoted to helping others find missing loved ones. And for Dani, finding Tinsley is still a never-ending obsession.
This was a good read with good characters. Likeable story and characters.
I did like Dani and Quinn. I liked the ending. 4*.

Every second counts when a person is missing. Dani Callahan knows this all to well. Her five-year old daughter, Tinsley went missing on her first day of kindergarten. Now, Dani is working as a private investigator working with her assistant, Quinn Sullivan, a young woman who has had someone from her life go missing as well.

Ali Cross has vanished on her way home from school. A troubled young teen, Ethan saw her being taken and placed in the back of a van, He is Dani and Quinn's only eyewitness and with his recollections, they begin their search. Will they find the missing teenager? Will Dani ever learn who took her child?

As the women hunt down clues, it becomes clear that there are more victims, more secrets, more lies, and mounting danger!

I found this to be an enjoyable and captivating book which grabbed my attention from page one and never lost it. I was glued to the pages and found the pacing to be spot on. I enjoyed the mounting tension and sense of unease. I rooted for Dani and Quinn while being worried and concerned about other characters.

Ragan has crafted a thrilling book which did not disappoint. Characters in this book are dealing with many issues and I thought she handled them gracefully. Not knowing what happened to a loved one is devastating and has life altering effects. She had me feeling for some, angry at others and downright appalled by another.

This was my first book by this author, and it will not be my last. Looking forward to reading more of her books.

A gripping page turner which had me fully absorbed until the very last page.

Thank you to Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the opportunity to read an eARC of this fabulous book. I first encountered TR Ragan's writing some years ago when I read Abducted, the first book in her Lizzy Gardner series. That book grabbed me and didn't let go, and I was instantly a fan. Since then Ms. Ragan has gone on to create hit series after hit series. I am thrilled to say Count to Three, her latest book, is as good as any she's put out. From the opening chapter, which is an absolute emotional gut-punch, I was hooked. As always, Ragan's characters are fully fleshed out and believable, and the story is a wild rollercoaster ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat and reading long into the night. I highly recommend the book. Heck, I recommend all of her books. If you're looking for highly addictive thrillers, you can't go wrong with a T.R. Ragan novel.

I’ve enjoyed Ragan’s Sawyer Brooks series so I decided to give this one a try. Dani’s story is very compelling and the dual plots of kidnapping and investigation keep the pace moving.

But I do find that the author tends toward a lot of “tell” prose and some histrionics that just are too much for a good thriller. Twists are pretty predictable and, since this is a stand alone, ends are too neatly tied up. It’s a strange mix of pushing the comfort envelope (eg torture scenes) and yet pulling everything back for a happy ending. Not entirely sure who the audience is.

I’m going to continue the other series I’ve started from her though, because she does weave interesting plots.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my free copy. These opinions are my own.

There was a lot going on in this book! Dani is a private investigator in Sacramento, CA who is hired by a young boy to help find girl he saw kidnapped but the police don't believe him. At the same time, Dani is still trying to find her own kidnapped daughter. The missing teen story seems to be an ongoing favorite among suspense writers and I'm not sure much was added to the trope this time. But with the dual storylines, it didn't feel as obvious. Some of the writing was repetitive (like the qualifications to be a private investigator). Since I read a galley, hopefully someone caught those instances and they won't be there in the final edition. On a personal note, I liked the setting as it is an area I am familiar with and the author did a decent job of correctly locating places. Nothing worse than an author who uses a real city and then misidentifies locales! I did feel like there was some excessive business name dropping a couple times. These wouldn't make sense to non-locals and didn't add any specific value to the story or people who live locally. But if this is the first in a series, I'm here for the next one!

This is my first T.R. Ragan, but I'm sure it won't be the last. Fast-paced and full of suspense, this is a fascinating detective story that follows two stories in one.

When Dani Callahan's five-year-old daughter, Tinsley, disappears from kindergarten, Dani's world comes crashing down. And shortly afterward. So does her marriage. Five years pass and Dani becomes a private investigator, dedicated to finding missing persons. Her latest case is that of Ali Cross, a teenager who is abducted in broad daylight.

I really enjoyed following the main investigation while having Ali's POV. Her spunk was refreshing as were her futile attempts to escape her kidnapper. I also really enjoyed Dani's private investigation to find out more about her daughter's disappearance. I loved seeing her gradually put the pieces of the puzzle together until she had a solid clue as to who kidnapped her daughter.

We get a conclusion for both cases which was brilliant!

If you love police procedurals or spine-chilling crime thrillers you need to pick up this book!

My thanks goes to @netgalley and the publisher #thomasandmercer for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Dani Callahan is a private investigator. She is well known for her ability to locate missing children and has brought many of them home. There is one case that she continually works on ... the disappearance of her own daughter, who was 5 years old. She never made it home after her first day of school.

Five years later, she's still looking and will never give up. A divorce from her husband has freed him to move on ..and that' s what he's done. He has a new wife who is pregnant. But for Dani, she will never move on until she either finds her daughter .. or learns what happened to her.

Her newest case is the disappearance of Ali Cross. The police write it off as a runaway situation. However, a young boy witnessed Ali's abduction.

The more she investigates, the more she finds that this case may be connected to her own daughter's case. As their investigations lead down two twisting paths, disturbing secrets are revealed and new victims find themselves in mortal danger.

Suspenseful from start to finish, this is well written with a few twists and turns that seem to pop up just as you think you've solved the crimes. As with all this author's previous books, the story line is intriguing and the characters outstanding. Dani and her assistant, Carla, have a great relationship, both in their professional life and in the personal side of things. The conclusion was riveting and so unexpected.

Many thanks to the author / Thomas & Mercer / Netgalley for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

I read a book to be entertained. The genre is flexible, the entertainment factor is not. If this was a movie there are several scenes I would be covering my face. Scary, gruesome and the underlying thread of hope in humanity. I liked Dani, she struggled through and persevered after the loss of her daughter. Was not enamored of her ex husband the first time he appeared on scene. You sort of new where that was heading, and yet T.R. Ragan managed to throw in a surprise. Ethan, the 12 yr old who witness Ali kidnapping, lets say that kid stole everyone's heart. I kept crossing toes and fingers to pls, pls let him be okay. Quinn also captured my attention. I see comments of no surprises, and trashing same ol same ol. Ladies and Gentlemen how many times can you reinvent the wheel and hey I am ready to read ya all's books if yours are so great, sign me up. Everyone has an opinion, everyone is entitled. I hope if a book disappoints me enough to leave such a low review, I would let the author know privately and just say it wasn't for me, or didn't do it for me with my starts on the various platforms. I don't know, maybe I am off target. Sigh, now I digress. If you want some thrills and chills, this will do it. If you want a HEA as much as can be, this will do it. I have no problem recommending this to people who like to cringe with their feet up and lights on. Thank you Thomas Mercer, Net Galley and T.R. Ragan for the arc. I freely volunteer my thoughts, my opinions.

Count to Three is part psychological thriller, part procedural, with private investigator Dani at the helm. Dani has experience on the other side-- her own daughter was taken 5 years ago, which helped to bring her to the world of investigations. She had a talent for it, even though it had not helped her yet find her daughter.

The bulk of the story tells the story of the investigation into the disappearance of Ali. The reader knows that Ali was taken, but the police had given up, thinking she is a runaway. A young boy, Ethan, comes forward, saying he witnessed the kidnapping, and urging Dani (and her partner Quinn) to investigate this on their own, outside of the police investigation.

Overall, I LOVED this book. It flowed well, and I truly liked the characters that I was reading about. The antagonist was truly diabolical and scary, suffering clearly from trauma (from childhood) and mental health concerns. While it was difficult to empathize with him, you certainly could understand why he was the way he was. Not that it excused the actions that he took, but it made you understand that there are people who react to trauma in negative ways.

This book wrapped up all the threads of mystery well, and by the end of the book. I enjoyed that there were no cliff hangers, or openings for an immediate second installment. That being said, I would definitely LOVE to read a second effort with Dani (or even her side kick Quinn) as the main protagonist. The characters just jived well, and made me want to hear (and read) more about their lives.

Thank you to the author, publisher and Net Galley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review..

Dani Callahan never planned to become a private investigator, but she did after her daughter was kidnapped. She had arrived to pick up Tinsley, from kindergarten, only to find that someone who resembled her had taken her. Now five years later and a divorce, she is still searching…will always be searching for Tinsley. She has assistance from Detective James Lee Whitton, who has never given up on finding her daughter as well as her assistant Quinn Sullivan. Quinn is an eager young woman, still in training, who is determined to bring closure to the case. Also, Quinn begins investigating the kidnapping of teenager Ali Cross. A young boy saw Ali pushed into a white van, but the police are reluctant to believe him as he had issues with the authorities. Will they be able to locate Ali before it’s too late? Will a crucial piece of evidence lead to Tinsley’s return? A step-by-step process, with twists and turns, that will keep you guessing. Count to Three by T.R. Ragan
A special thanks to Thomas & Mercer Publishing and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this ARC. All opinions are my own.
Dani Callahan had always wanted a children. It didn’t come easy for her and her husband Matthew. After lots of disappointments and an intense round of fertility treatments they finally conceive Tinsley. But disaster is coming. Tinsley is kidnapped on her first day of kindergarten.
Five years pass without any luck. Dani and Matthew are divorce. Dani is a PI now and she refuses to give up on Tinsley.
After hiring a new assistant Quinn, they begin to work on a new case, a missing teenager Ali Cross. She too disappeared without a trace.
Will this case help her find Tinsley?
This was an intense read. It publishes on 12/14/21 and is expected to be a series.

With its somewhat abstruse title, Count to Three by T R Ragan is a missing persons thriller. Dani Callahan and Quinn Sullivan are a private investigator team specialising in missing person cases, each with their own history of lost loved ones. A missing teenager girl vanished off the streets in Sacramento is witnessed by a twelve-year-old lad who police don’t believe. He then hires Dani and Quinn to find her, but then he too disappears. With its likeable characters, enjoyable narrative and slow suspense build up, this read makes for a solid enough three-star rating. However, the ending was predictable, truncated and a little schmaltzy, so felt a jarring add on, better left unresolved. With thanks to Thomas & Mercer and the author, for an uncorrected advanced review copy for review purposes. As always, the opinions herein are totally my own and are made without fear or favour.

A well-written book with likeable main characters and an action-packed, fast-paced story. Dani Callahan's daughter, Tinsley, was abducted on her first day of kindergarten, 5 years ago. Dani has never given up hope that she will find her, even though her (now ex) husband has. Dani is now a private investigator, and she and her young assistant Quinn (who has suffered a loss of her own) are dedicated to helping other people find missing loved ones. Their new case is the disappearance of Ali Cross, a 17 year old girl who the police think is a runaway but a 12 year old boy comes to Dani and Quinn, swearing he saw her abducted by a man in a white cargo van but the police won't believe him. Can they find Ali before it's too late? And will Dani ever find out what happened to her daughter? There are several plot lines in this book, some are given more time & detail than others, and the story is told from multiple points of view (not all of them "the good guys"). Overall, I enjoyed it and would recommend it to fans of thrillers.

On her first day of kindergarten, five-year-old Tinsley disappeared without a trace. 5 years later, her divorced mother, Dani Callahan, is a private investigator. Quinn Sullivan is her young assistant and both of them are devoted to finding missing loved ones. Dani has been focused to finding Tinsley ever since she went missing 5 years ago.

Their newest case is Ali Cross, a teenager who vanished recently from the streets of Sacramento. Thank goodness for a 12 year old boy named Ethan who witnessed the abduction of Ali. What does Ali and Tinsley's abductions have in common is the nagging question that needs to be solved?

I'm in the midst of reading Ragan's Lizzy Gardner's series. I love all of the author's characters. Her books are character-driven and all very interesting and well-drawn. I'm finding the same page turning aspects in this book too. She has a way with suspense that makes you feel like you're on a roller coaster with the twists and turns of the plots.

I'm now hoping this is a start of a new series and I'm looking forward to reading the next book. If you enjoy mystery thrillers then I'm sure you will enjoy Ragan's books. I would like to thank NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for a free copy for an honest review.

In a powerful prologue, Dani Callahan’s much longed for daughter is taken from her kindergarten class by a woman who looks like Dani’s twin. She has not been found.

Flash forward to the present day. Dani now is a private investigator, head of her own company. Her assistant is Quinn Sullivan, a young woman whose own mother disappeared years ago. Headlining today’s news is the story of Ali Cross, a teenager who disappeared on her way home from school. Because of their personal history, Dani ad Quinn are intrigued when twelve year old Ethan Grant wants to hire them because he was a witness to Ali’s kidnapping. What follows is a dark twisty thriller as Dani, Quinn and Ethan try to find Ali before it is too late.

Count to Three, told by the alternating voices of Dani and Ali, is both suspenseful and dark. Ali’s experience is horrific. The conclusion ties up many threads. 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas and Mercer and T.R. Ragan for this ARC.
