Beatriz Williams has struck gold with the enchanting Gin Kelly and the indomitable Aunt Julia. In this newest adventure we once again see how Gin and Anson continue to sabotage their happiness by insisting on getting involved with defeating those who are committed to corruption and greed. As if the stakes weren't high before, Williams ups the ante and writes a side to Gin we have not seen before. This Gin has the same determination but her spirit is somewhat more subdued based on the circumstances presented to her. The discovery of Gin's father, the underhandedness of Anson's former partner, and the uncovering of secrets held by longtime friend Christopher make for an action packed story.
One cannot forget that this is a dual time-line series. The other storyline continues the tale of the aforementioned Aunt Julia and Ella. While the relationship issues Ella has with her ex-husband Patrick seem a little "extra", her relationship with Hector has its own growing pains. Ella's determination to uncover the truth behind the shady business transactions she discovered while working as a financial analyst, seemingly correspond with some old family secrets and Aunt Julia's desire for revenge. Williams creates two storylines that could easily stand alone. Together they form a fantastical adventure and thoroughly enjoyable series. Cannot wait for the next book!!!
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley.

This is my first Gin Kelly book and I thoroughly enjoyed it! What a wonderful character Beatriz Williams has created in Gin, and Ella Dommerich is quite an outstanding character herself. The story alternates between the two, with Gin's story centered in the Prohibition era, and Ella's in 1998. Do Prohibition crimes of the past still reverberate into the 1990's? This is a complex story at times, and kept me guessing throughout. Each chapter is a cliffhanger that will keep you reading to find out what happens next. I definitely need to read the other 2 books, but this book stands on its own, with sufficient background on Gin so the story flowed from one thrilling chapter to the next. I did receive an ARC from Netgalley and I am very grateful that I did! And I think (hope) that Gin will be back in another book.

Beatriz Williams is a master of historical fiction, and her latest foray into the Prohibition era is no exception. She brings us back to the world of Gin Kelley in the aftermath of the clash with the King of Bootleggers. At first we think Anson and Gin are finally safe and ready to move on with their lives, but forces from their past come back to drag them back into the dangerous world they thought they had left behind.

In the fast forward part of the novel, Ella is happily living with Hector and eagerly awaiting the birth of her baby, when she is given information that casts her firing in a different light. This leads her on a goose chase that ends up putting herself and other people in her life in danger.

I am an unabashed fan of Beatriz Williams, and just she is a genius at tying together characters and story lines across multiple books and timelines. I am always eagerly awaiting what she will do next.

Having now read all three books in the Wicked City, I can say that this was a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting trip through the roaring 1920s and the late 1990s, as I ventured back and forth reading about the lives of Gin Kelly and Ella Dommerich, respectively.

I do not want to give away anything else about the plot, because it is more fun to discover it for yourself. This was not a trilogy for the sake of being a trilogy. There was truly enough material to warrant the creation of three books. I did not tire of the characters, and I felt that I lived with them for a long time as I made my way through the novels. There were a few times when I thought that the number of coincidences and connections was getting a bit farfetched, but this did not discourage me from wanting to continue reading. There was a great deal of suspense despite the occasional predictable plot point.

I also did not care for the ending of this book. Too abrupt for me, though I understand the author wanting the reader to fill in the blanks in his/her own way.

I highly recommend this book to fans of the author, historical fiction, and novels with strong women. Thank you NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for an advance e-reader copy of this book!

I always love Beatriz William's but this story was hard to follow. The characters go back to generations and secrets kept which are found out later. Digging up dirt on The Presidential candidate. 1925 -1998. Family skeletons come to haunt all. Too much sex!

After reading all of this author's previous books, I really was looking forward to this one. However, I was not thrilled with this one. Unless you had read her other books, this novel would be confusing I think. I didn't like the jumping back and forth of the characters nor did I like that the book suddenly ended. I realize there is another sequel coming but the book left me totally disappointed.

I love this series! Gin Kelly is back, wedding her beloved Anson, Oliver Marshall, and what should be pure joy…isn’t. Complications abound, narrated by Gin in her best hillbilly. New characters are introduced , but never without a purpose and they never interfere with the plot

At the same time we are following the extremely complex relationship between Ella, her husband and her new love., Hector.

During most of these parallel lives that are unfolding, both women are pregnant and both are connected to the SCHUYLER Family which plays a role in Williams’ novel. I must admire the way these puzzle pieces are always synced.

Williams is one of my favorite authors and this novel left me dying for more. The only flaw in this book is that I don’t recommend that it be read as a stand-alone since there are so many connections to earlier books.

Thank you Netgalley for this book. I am such a fan of Beatriz Williams that reading one of her novels is really a delight.
