Mermaid festival intertwined with murder?! Sounds interesting. Cozy mystery meets fantasy in this second book of the Enchanted Bay series.

When Alex’s friend is accused of murdering someone, she decides to start investigating herself. This leads Alex into some pretty precarious situations.

Alex has 2 love interests and we get to see how the scale is tipping from one to the other. I can’t wait to continue following her journey and see how these relationships grow.

Definitely grab this book and the first one if you are a cozy mystery lover!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audio Arc in exchange for my honest review.

I really enjoyed listening to this book. I had listened to book one so I had an idea about the characters and enjoyed getting to catch up with them.

Welcome back to Bellamy Bay! I really enjoyed book 1 of this series and I was thrilled to get the audiobook of book 2. I will admit that I struggled with the narration, I think it has nothing to do with the narrator and the voices for the characters were phenomenal. I personally had a harder time connecting with Aleksandra while listening. I loved the additional dive into the Mermaid history. I can't wait to explore this small coastal town more. I think Aleksandra and her family are fascinating. My only one irritation - Jack. I wanted more growth for his character but I think this is purposeful and I am rooting for Dylan. I will definitely continue this series.

I really needed a good cozy mystery to sink into and this was it! I got the bonus of it being a supernatural cozy, so I got that wonderful fantasy element that I absolutely love. This was just the book that I was looking for. I truly didn’t want it to end. I’ll definitely be looking for more from this author.

If you enjoy a supernatural cozy mystery, then this book and series will be for you. Aleksandra Daniels has recently returned to Bellamy Bay, North Carolina and found out a secret, she is a water witch. The town is full of people that have descended from creatures of fairytales and myths such as mermaids and dragons. In this story, they are planning the annual Mermaid Festival and Alex is helping her friend Celeste. The committee has hired renowned artist Neve Ryland to paint a mermaid mural at the local park. She seems to be drawn to Alex as well as Celeste's boyfriend Jasper, director of Bellamy Bay's history museum. When Neve is found dead in his office, Celeste is suspected of a crime of passion. As Alex and her relatives begin to investigate, they find out things about Neve that scare them just a bit. Will they find the real killer and can they prove who killed Neve?

I enjoyed the first book in this series and wanted to give this one a try. I found this book had a lot more of the supernatural in it than the first. We learn a lot more about water witches and who descended from mermaids, as well as those who may have some dragon in them. Detective Jack Frazier, Alex's "friend" is a bit more open in his investigating but he never would have solved the mystery without her interference. There were a few suspects and as Alex gets closer, someone is trying to stop her. She does not give up and her tenacious personality puts her in danger a couple of times. I enjoyed getting to know the characters more, and seeing Alex become a part of the community. There is a lot more magic in this one with some more secrets revealed as this story comes to a satisfactory ending. Emily Durante narrates this audiobook and does a nice job with the story. She uses her voice to add emotion and excitement. I have listened to many books she has narrated and am very comfortable with her narration. If you are a fan of cozy mysteries, especially those with magic and witches, then you will enjoy this series.

Shortly after famous muralist Neve creates a beautiful mural for Bellamy Bay’s annual mermaid festival and unveils it for viewing, she is found murdered. Water witch Alex sets to work to investigate, since one of her cousins and best friends, Celeste is the main suspect. Alex’s boyfriend Jack, a town police detective, warns her to let him do his job, but she’s upset because he believes Celeste is guilty. Can Alex solve the mystery, find the real murderer, and free Celeste before Jack gets her convicted and sentenced?

A Hex for Danger is a little bit magical, but mostly cozy mystery. I love a good witch tale, but I found this slow moving and I kept losing interest in the storyline. Overall, not a bad read.

A Hex for Danger has a complicated storyline for a cozy mystery and even after the mystery wraps up the reader is given more. Both before, and in the extra bit after most books would have been wrapped up, we get more information that we were left wishing for in book 1. Some of which we don't really need spelled out but get anyway.

There was a bit too much extraneous "life in Bellamy Bay" detail for me which surprisingly doesn't include Alex really relating to friends and family much despite her mentioning again how important her family is to her having been deprived of them growing up. It's even the reason she gives for doing stuff that puts her at odds with people she is supposed to care about. It makes her a tad unlikeable.

I received a copy of the audiobook from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. The narrator was good, but I could one error (murderer for murder) which was minor (unless there was also a mistake in the copy she was using).

I listened to the audiobook version of A Hex for Danger. I really enjoyed the narrator and loved how she made each character sound unique.
This second book in the Enchanted Bay Mystery series was even better than the first! I loved the unique twist on the paranormal cozy which included Mermaids and more! Such a fun story and well planned mystery. With not one, but two murders, the reader is kept guessing until the very end.

A Hex for Danger by Esme Addison
Narrated by Emily Durante
Publisher: Dreamscape Media
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers | Sci Fi & Fantasy
Publication Date: July 13, 2021

A Hex for Danger by Esme Addison is the second book in An Enchanted Bay Mystery series. I had not read the first book (and I definitely will be!) and I was easily able to read this as a standalone mystery.

I immediately fell in love with this book. It ties in Polish ancestry (which I'm researching) and mermaids!!!!

The characters are fascinating and so likeable. The storyline was captivating and the mystery was multi-layered and kept me guessing! I really enjoyed this book and could not get enough of it!

I definitely recommend this to fans of mysteries, cozy mysteries, fantasies, and just great books!

The narration by Emily Durante was incredible!!! She was so fun to listen to!

I will definitely be reading the first book, A Spell for Trouble, and any future books in the series! I am hooked!

I'm so grateful to Esme Addison, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed everything about this cozy mystery - the characters, plot, tone, style and of course the mermaid mythology. I can’t wait to recommend it to patrons.

This was a audiobook narrated by Emily Durante.
Sometimes a cozy mystery is just a fun change.
This one was full of mermaids and dragons. Mystery, murder and love affairs gone wrong.
Set in a small seaside town that would be amazing to visit. The story was full of intriguing characters and interesting places.

I really liked the mini homeopathic tips and tricks scattered throughout the book. I would like it even more if the main family in the story had their shop in my town.

This is definitely a great book for cozy fans. The characters are diverse, the storyline is complex enough to stay interesting but it has that upbeat vibe that makes it a fun relaxing read.

I received this as a free audiobook from #NetGalley . All thoughts are my own. #AHexforDanger.

I love where this series is going and it’s unique paranormal base. The characters are more engaging and the plot is smoother than book one. I can’t wait to continue this series!

I enjoyed the narrator. She was a great addition to the storytelling.

DISCLAIMER: I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was looking for a quirky mystery with a unique spin but this novel's reliance on connecting the protagonist to a romance with a police officer was an immediate turn off that I could not recover from.

Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the audiobook. The book takes place in the small Coastal town of Bellamy Bay, North Carolina. Although I did not read the first Enchanted Bay Mystery, this one still reads well as a standalone. Going into this cozy mystery, I assumed it would be a little cheesy. I was wrong- it is over the top cheese. The mystery reveals are all made in such a cringeworthy type of way. I will not continue the series sadly.

This cozy mystery is set in Bellamy Bay, where mermaids and other magic just may be real. It's the second book in the series, but the first one I read, and I certainly didn't feel lost. In this one, a famous artist comes to town. She's unveiling a mermaid-themed painting, and she comes to talk to Aleks about the possibility of a mermaid gene. When the artist is found dead, there are lots of suspects.

The things I liked the the most about this story were:
1) I like the mix of paranormal with the cozy mystery. The magical aspect wasn't too overdone, and it was fun to think about.
2) I thought the mystery had some good twists and I enjoyed some of the things that happened there.
3) I liked the positivity of some of Aleks' friends, and how they worked together.
4) I listened to the audio version from netgalley, and I thought it was well done. The reader was good!

The big thing I didn't like was the love triangle. I hate them in general, so that is no surprise.

"Sunny-yet-Sinister " is a perfect description for this series.
I read along as I listened to the audiobook, compliments of Netgalley. Thank you.
And I purchased the previous book in the series on my own.
I loved the narration by Emily Durrante. She did an excellent voice making each character sound appropriate and distinguished.

Aleksandra Daniels is still getting used to her heritage and the special powers her family enjoys.
This story takes place around tourist season and an annual Mermaid Festival. Sounds like fun, right?
Well, it is for those who don't believe mermaids were ever real, and those who don't realize the implications of having mermaid ancestry themselves. What about dragons? Pure fiction, right?

Also not fun for a visiting artist who paints murals at events. This turns out to be her FINAL event.
Alek's good friend Celeste is seen exhibiting strange behaviors and is arrested for the artist's murder.
She even wonders if her actions could have contributed to the woman's death.

Under the fanciful setting and wonderful characters, comes the sinister.
There are references to adult topics and defense industry and industrial espionage.
Yet I enjoyed the relationships between the characters and how Alek is growing.
A very good series with much potential.
