This was informative and accessible. I think this will be a great addiction to our collection as we have an ever-growing elderly community!

Good guide to basic exercises that almost anyone, including seniors can do. I just turned 60 and need to do more to improve flexibility. This was a great way to start. It will put readers on a path to basic wellness that can then be expanded upon.

Although I am only in my late 50's, I wanted to review this book to see what types of exercises they would recommend. I found the explanation of the benefits of exercise to be very motivating even to someone in their 50's. The exercises were nicely illustrated and easy to understand. I would recommend it to anyone in their 50's or above.

I was really looking forward to this book as I am of the age it’s written for. While it was mostly good, I did have some issues with it. First of all, the cover is misleading. With exercise balls. And there’s not a single exercise inside that uses exercise balls. Second, there’s a lot of technical information here. While it is well-researched (as evident from all the footnotes and citations), I know all the background of why I should exercise. That wasn’t why I was interested in the book. I know all the problems that can occur. I don’t need to be hit over the head with it. Plus, some of the exercises seem a little extreme for seniors who have been sedentary or have mobility issues. Definitely need to check with your doctor before trying any of these, even the yoga ones.

Recommendation: It’s a decent book with good information, but I’d skip the first few chapters and just look at the exercises. They’re what the book is supposed to be about, not a lecture on why you should do them.

I was a bit skeptical about how much you could benefit from just seven minutes of exercise per day but I guess any deliberate movement is better than none. Most of the exercises presented are simple and basic with quite a big portion consisting of yoga. Some of them seems to me to be too difficult for older seniors.

The illustrations are prominent and show clearly how the correct postures should look like.

A big thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is an adult exercise book. It is a great reminder of a lot of simple, easy, nothing needed to do exercises for home. Easy to look at pictures that show how to do it correctly. It also has some dos and don'ts and some warnings. Overall a good book-simple and easy to use. 4 stars

14 minutes a day for 7 days is the total time commitment required within 7 Minute Fitness Strength Training for Seniors and Over 60+. Of course, the hope is that you will continue the 7-minute twice daily strength and meditative workouts forever.

This book has clear instructions for each exercise including an illustration. There are many exercises for all areas of the body presented. However, many of the exercises would be difficult for seniors new to exercising to do. Balancing on one leg and getting up and down from the floor may be problematic. Therefore, I think the exercises would be better suited to beginner exercisers in middle age or younger. The explanations at the beginning of the book on why older adults should exercise are targeted at seniors so the book seems conflicted as to its audience.

Because of the possible frustration of seniors getting motivated to exercise and then being unable to do many of the included exercises, I have to rate 7 Minute Fitness Strength Training for Seniors and Over 60+ only 2 stars. It misses the mark for me.

Thanks to Books Go Social and NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

7 Minute Fitness Strength Training for Seniors and Over 60+ by Liam Owen is a clearly written, easy to follow and seriously motivating set of instructions for anyone of “a certain age” who wants to work on getting more exercise without hurting themself...perfect for me, as I have a tendency to dive into an exercise program full on, and end up with pain or injury. Complete with detailed instructions and illustrations, along with tips regarding equipment, nutrition, and how to stay motvated. I'm ready! Five stars.

7 MINUTE FITNESS STRENGTH TRAINING FOR SENIORS AND OVER 60 PLUS
BY LIAM OWEN

I have always been very active until the last five years. My motivation towards reading this book was I just turned 60 and wanted to ease into an exercise routine and the title sounded perfect. I did love the Author's *morbid* reasons for not moving and continuing to stay sedentary albeit very depressing. Who knows maybe that will be my wake up call to finally take action towards exercising. There are definitely drawbacks that he listed such as cardiovascular disease, Type II Diabetes and high blood pressure (which has never been a problem for me).

I did think that the Yoga exercises were geared towards someone with a knowledge base of yoga already. I thought that some of the weight training exercises were ones that I would try since I am familiar with most of them. It is just so depressing the serious diseases that he lists for 65 and up such as cancer if one doesn't move the body. I didn't find this to be inspirational at all compared to a book I recently read called, "Move the Body Heal the Mind."

While I do want to be independent which I am and hope to be for many more years some of the exercises are for a more experienced person who is not beginning as the Title implied or I wrongly assumed would be for a beginner that has been sedentary. There were a couple that did seem like I could hurt myself if I didn't get the form correct. It is all about good form. I was a bit disappointed in this and was hoping for something more explanatory. Plus I found it depressing listing all of the ailments I could develop if I don't start doing these. Still others may find this helpful, it just isn't for me. I am grateful for the chance to read and review this.

As someone in the aforementioned age group and also starting to think about taking regular exercise ( as opposed to none for most of my adult life) I found the introduction very reassuring . I was pleased to read that exercise at my age is not harmful and is beneficial. I was greatly concerned that I will do myself an injury and that it will be futile.
I found the introduction before the actual exercises very interesting as it describes the ageing process and the effects on the body. It also details the benefits of regular exercise in the older person.
The description and pictures associated with each exercise are clear and concise and I look forward to trying them . I may not manage all of them but I’m willing to give it a go.

The majority of this book discusses aging, benefits of exercise for older people and myths regarding aging and physical exercise. The last section provides many exercises to choose from. The descriptions of the exercises are quite good, but the illustrations leave a little to be desired. While this book contains much information, it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I thought this would be more prescriptive rather than a wide range exercises to choose from. Despite this, 7 Minute Fitness Strength Training for Seniors and Over 60+ contained a lot of valuable information.

Many practical exercises and advice that people of any age can use. I do agree with another reviewer who mentioned need to be careful for (intentional or unintentional) health shaming regarding people's health and their level of exercise. I think the intention is to try to help people so I get that, but I also know that given various forms of body dysmorphic disorder and shame people have for their bodies, it's important to be sensitive to the these factors. I do hope to use several of his exercises/suggestions.

Note: I voluntarily requested, read, and reviewed this book. Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for sending me a temporary digital advance reading copy/advance review (ARC) galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. As always, my opinions are my own and do not represent my co-host or the podcast. I request, read, and review many books prior to publication to explore possible future guests for the podcast. I wish we could interview the author of every one of these books because I'm so impressed by the creativity, thoughtfulness, and wisdom shared through the temporary books I get through NetGalley.

While the book is written with seniors in mind it is actually a good fitness guide for any age whether you are a beginner or want to add flexibility exercises to your routine. The first 3 chapters discusses general physical health, benefits of exercise, and common misconceptions. Exercises are grouped into basic introductory stretches, bodyweight training, and yoga with brief statement of difficultly level, equipment needed, and suggested repetitions.

It is well written with steps spelled out and a simple graphic to illustrate the main step. Due to the simple exercises described a step-by-step visual guide is not necessary. The section on yoga is a welcome addition with sections addressing chair yoga for hip and lower back pain, yoga for stiff and tight legs, and yoga for lower back tension. The 7-day workplan includes a guide for warm-ups, strength workout, and meditation. An overall excellent guide.

I have seen or done most of the exercises in the book but it’s a good review. Plus i like that the author gave step by step Instructions in how to do them correctly and things to remember when doing the exercises to prevent injury and why it is important to do them. Also like the illustrations. It definitely takes some tailoring after age 60.

This would be a great way to get started with a routine.

Thanks to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for the opportunity to read this book.

As a bookseller and an older adult, I attempted to review this title as if I or a person my age would use it. A good portion of the book first discussed general health issues, concerns, and studies. Most of these chapters seemed copied from other sources, not original. In the “7-minute a day” exercise section, the suggestions were familiar; however, the daily choices seemed to me to have a random, not sequential or topical, order. Again, the illustrations seemed drawn from another source or sources. I suspect this because the drawings show young adults, not seniors, which would be appropriate. No doubt the exercises offer increased strength and fitness to those inclined and able to follow the directions. I however did not find the format and content appealing or useful. I did review the Kindle edition, which may have affected formatting. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the preview opportunity.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-copy of this book for review.

What I like about this book is that although the exercises are not new it is good to have them all in one place and there are plenty of exercises to maintain interest and variety whilst building up an exercise habit.

Considering it is a book for over-60s I would have liked the illustrations to the exercises to have been more representative of this age group. Other than this I would be happy to use this book and to recommend it to others trying to get fit over 60.

This book offers quite a bit to motivate older people to exercise. It identifies perceived problems and barriers, provides simple illustrations for yoga and strength moves and a progressive 7 day program.
My only criticism is that I felt it fell a little short in assuming a certain level of flexibility, specifically for getting onto the floor for some moves. But on the whole, there’s something to be gained for everyone, the reader might just need to be selective and modify some of the suggested exercises.

Although I am not quite yet at the target age having long covid has aged me considerably. I found the exercises and routines useful. I skimmed read the first few chapters, as not that relevant to me, but they looked well researched.

I was given an advance copy by netgalley and the publishers but the review is entirely my own.

I’m a little bit ambivalent about this book. It is loaded with great ideas for staying active. There are a plethora of different exercise routines to incorporate into one’s life. Taking only 7 minutes a day? I don’t think so. I know moving is important since like machines we need to keep moving or everything will freeze up. For me, chair yoga sounds doable with the best chance for me to stick with it. Maybe people bring illness on by not moving but some statements seem to do a little blaming for not exercising. Author should be a little more careful with his words. I know too many women who feel guilty enough for being ill that they do not need more.
I received a copy for free from NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.
