This was a cute book even though I found it gross that a roach came to the birthday party. The illustrations were very cute and well done and I enjoyed it very much.

A cockroach was watching a boy’s birthday party from outside of his house. He decided to go inside and join in the festivities. After all the games, the cockroach fell asleep on the cake, and was vacuumed up by the boy’s father. But he wouldn’t give up on the party that easily, so he found his way back inside.

This book’s release day is my birthday, so I thought I was meant to read it! The idea of having a cockroach at your birthday party is quite gross. The kids at the party were scared of it, but the cockroach thought they were screaming in excitement. It was cute the way he misinterpreted what they were doing, but it’s hard to get over the gross factor of the story.

Your Birthday Was the Best was a cute children’s book, but it doesn’t make me want to invite a cockroach to my party!

Thank you Tundra Books for providing a copy of this book.

A surprising, cute concept that's sure to be a surprise. Not to mention, depending on your tot's sense of humor, funny.

Very short story. No issues with art or writing. I think it's a fun, quick read.

Very funny and a little gross--just the way a good picture book should be. The illustrations are very cute.

Thanks to NetGalley along with Penguin Random House Canada, Tundra books for this free ARC in return for my honest review.
I am a contrarian with regards to this book. I cannot see or understand the purpose of having a birthday party as seen through the eyes of a cockroach, and how he interacts with the party. The illustrations were good considering the topic, but for me this is a book I would never recommend. Sorry.

This was absolutely adorable. I loved the excuse to read a bunch of little kiddo arcs while pregnant and I will enjoy picking them up in stores.

Birthday parties are the best, aren’t they. You know who REALLY loves them? Cockroaches. So many crumbs to eat! At least, one cockroach in particular. He had the best time at one little boy’s birthday party—so good that after getting sucked up in the vacuum (fabulous by the way. That thing is full of delicious treats) he makes his way back to the party to enjoy it even more.
Your Birthday Was the Best by Maggie Hutchings, illustrated by Felicita Sala is the perfect birthday book for anyone who likes gross-out humor. With plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and plenty of gross-out moments, this one is a great addition to any collection—if you can bear the thought of cockroaches on your cake!

Omg…. This is such a cute book about a little beetle at a boys birthday party.
My son loved it and is now asking me to get a physical copy of the book when it comes out!
Can’t wait.

This was a cute and silly story about a cockroach who REALLY wants to participate in a birthday party. It was quick to read and the illustrations would help a younger reader be able to follow along with what is going on.

Thanks to NetGalley and Random House Publishing Canada for access to this ARC.

This book was clever, and it has a fun idea with the cockroach as the main character. Overall, it was cute, but I didn't love it and there isn't enough to it to catch my kids' attention.

Thanks to Netgalley and Tundra Books for a free digital copy.

A funny little book about a roach appearing on a birthday cake. I'm very much not into roaches, so this book is not for me, but if kids like bugs then they will like this cute short book.

The world's most positive cockroach crashes a birthday party with wonderfully silly results! Kids will giggle at the difference in how the roach sees the experience vs the birthday child. The roach's adventures continues after being sucked into the vacuum and it greets the experience with such joy and enthusiasm it's hard not to cheer for it.

The illustrations are lively and detailed. They really help bring the story to life. Kids can benefit from the glass-half-full message of the story along with the laughs. This would make a great circle time read for pre-K and early elementary.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

Birthday parties can be hit or miss. But Your birthday was the best. I should know, I was there. I was on the cake! You scream. I was sucked into the vacuum. I had a great time! Did I mention I was a cockroach? Yeah, I’m a cockroach and I loved your birthday party. Great fun read. Disturbing, but really really fun.

I love this book. Kids will laugh-out-loud as they are introduced to an uninvited, friendly cock roach that invites himself to a birthday party.

A birthday bash is happening and a curious cock roach enters into the house and right into the celebration. He just blends into the games and frivolity and ends up in the middle of the birthday cake. He decides to take a nap after stuffing himself full with the delicious cake. It's at that point he is discovered by the humans and chaos ensues. Screaming and scurrying away from the horrid creature alerts dad who crashes in wielding the household vacuum cleaner as his chosen weapon of destruction.

The horrid cockroach gets sucked up and hopefully that will be the end of him. Gone! But will the clever bug find a way to return to the best birthday party ever? The illustrations are amazing. They visually bring the text to life. The back cover sums it up perfectly... (spoiler alert!)... "It's party time!" This book would be a perfect birthday gift, or anytime gift to give. I highly, highly recommend it! Well done!

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was one of my daughter's favourite picture book of late, we both got a kick out of the surprising twist and how clever the story was. After we giggled our way through the book, she re- told it the story, this time from the POV of the birthday boy.

Very cute and silly story, something that everyone will enjoy.

No one loves roach like bugs, but roach like bugs seem to think that they do! I loved this book because it's from the perspective of the roach/bug.

This little book is hilarious and made me laugh out loud. The cockroach is incredibly cute and the illustrations are very well done. There is a lot going on in every picture and so much for children to notice. They will love all the yucky things inside the vacuum bag and the surprise in the garbage can. This book would be a big hit as a read-aloud in a kindergarten - grade 2 class and I can imagine the children asking for it over and over again.

While the illustrations were charming, the entire text was lacking anything engaging at all. The story lacked and was not rememberable.
