Yes, yes, YES. Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven by Kami Garcia was such a delightful and refreshing continuation to this graphic novel series. I've loved the way these two characters' backstories have been introduced and explained, and getting to see them shipped together was very satisfying. The surprise cameo towards the end was a fun surprise also. I hope they continue doing more of these teen graphic novels from DC.

I was ecstatic to get to read this, so much so I binged both "Teen Titans: Raven" and "Teen Titans: Beast Boy" to get to reading this edition, and I was not at all disappointed by this book. If anything, this was the book that I most enjoyed in this series; in comparison, the first two books feel slow and almost uneventful, especially in the case of "Teen Titans: Beast Boy."

This book exists very much as the actual kicking-off point for the series; we see the series starting to kick into gear as we get introduced more thoroughly to the Villains we will see in this series while also slowly growing the team and raising them to one another.

I enjoyed how Garcia slowly brought the characters together, and we got to see them grow close and support each other throughout the story.

If you like Teen Titans, you will enjoy this. If you ship Beast Boy/Raven, you will love this.

The Review

A truly remarkable new take on a classic friendship turned to romance. The story of these two young people who not only have incredible powers, but who feel like outcasts, as a result, is not only a brilliant modern twist on the iconic character’s origins, but can also be relatable in so many ways. The theme of finding somewhere that you feel you belong, and finding a true connection with someone who not only accepts you but loves every aspect of you, is brilliantly highlighted through emotional storytelling and an even more emotional atmosphere that the author develops through this story.

The artwork was so unique to the world that the author has crafted, and the artist did a brilliant job of creating warm colors within the character’s depictions with more muted and cooled-down colors in the panels’ setting. The character development was great, as it not only delved into several characters and their development, but worked some surprise DC Comics characters into the narrative naturally, and balanced the storytelling with action and suspense that elevated the character’s personal growth.

The Verdict

A beautiful, action-packed, and wholly original narrative set in an iconic universe, author Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo’s “Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven” is a must-read graphic novel of 2021! The subtle yet awe-inspiring artwork and the rich storytelling that leaves room for more adventures in this series make this graphic novel shine brightly, and the book makes for the perfect fall read for longtime and new DC Comics fans alike.

As much as I loved Raven, and immediately hoped for more, I somehow still skipped Beast Boy last year. I'm still completely new to Teen Titans but Kami Garcia and Gabriel Picolo are helping to make me a quick fan.

The story is a great introduction to both these characters together as well as to some others. And will really having you looking forward towards what's to come. Of course the illustrations are the story, I was so caught up in them that they made me lose myself and forget where I was.

Big thanks to Netgalley & D.C. Comics for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I've been so excited for this since it was announced. I absolutely love and adore these characters. We're finally getting To see these two flirt and fall for each other and it is literally all I have ever wanted. I am a slow burn kind of romance girl and unfortunately we don't get that because of the time strains of a graphic novel. That's honestly my critique every time with these books is that things are sped up so much. I wished we could have a novel instead but then we wouldn't have the phenomenal art. The artwork makes up for the quickness with which the story takes. Picolo's art really makes these characters fresh while retaining the things that are so iconic with these characters.

I'm very excited to get to the rest of the titans!

Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven takes an iconic couple back to their origin and shows us the messy, uncertain, tumbling parts of being a teenage in love - while dealing with mysterious superpowers. Interweaving multiple points of view, Kami Garcia has developed these beloved characters in a new and enthralling way. Every installment builds one each other and Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven is throwing us right into the midst of a building change that is sure to wow readers in the coming installments.

Filled with love, discovering strength in the bleakest of moments, and forming unlikely alliances, Kami Garcia has captured the heart of what makes Teen Titans so beloved and made it even better.

Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven is intended for readers ages 13-17. There aren’t really any warnings for this book and should be fine to read for all readers. There are a couple of instances toward the end of the book where Raven and Gar are being forced to use their powers, but there is nothing graphic. This is mostly a story of love, acceptance, and support from two characters going through similar things while trying to figure themselves out and where they fit in the world. It is also a very positive and uplifting story that will just make you feel good reading it.

I found Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven to be a fantastic read. I definitely enjoyed it even more than both proceeding books. Getting these two characters together allows the reader to see different sides of them. I can also appreciate that Gar is not at all creepy toward Rachel, which sadly is how he is sometimes portrayed in the comics and other media. He doesn’t always come off as being very respectful toward women. I can appreciate and enjoy how Kami Garcia interprets and writes the character.

I would recommend Teen Titans: Beast Boy Loves Raven to anyone who is a fan of the Teen Titans whether it be from the comics or the cartoon series, or even the Titans TV series. But it also would be a great read for people unfamiliar with the team and its characters. There’s really something for everyone to enjoy. It would also be a great introduction to both Beast Boy and Raven. Oh, and if you are a fan of a partner of Batman’s, you’re definitely going to want to pick up this book!

Thank you to DC Entertainment /Comics and NetGalley for this DRC in exchange for an honest review.

Another fantastic installment from this duo, especially with their two favorite Teen Titans characters put together!

It starts right after the Raven and Beast Boy installments, both of them heading to Nashville, Tennessee to seek answers from Slade. The two teens happen to stumble upon each other during their travels and they slowly but surely bond with each other. The only thing they hide from each other is their powers. Will they overcome their past struggles and seek a deeper connection with one another?

First off, I can't get enough of Picolo's illustrations (I love the third installment cover). There is so much innovation, movement, color, and detail put into the panels to tell a great story. The artwork has been consistent in the installments.

As for ways to improve, the graphic novel's pacing was a little too fast and I wished it was longer to further develop the plot even more. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read. Beast Boy and Raven's characters were faithful. Plus, I'm thrilled minor characters are taking the spotlight like Max, Raven's foster sister, who happened to secretly join in Raven's journey. There are other well-known DC characters appearing in this installment so readers of this series, please pick this up!

Filled with comedy, drama, and romance, this is recommended for young adults, Teen Titans / DC fans, and those who love the Beast Boy and Raven pairing! I can't wait for the next installment and see more of the Titans together!

Okay listen, it was so cute though. Everything you want in a good fanfic but it's canon!

We have Raven, Beast Boy, Robin, mentions of Starfire as "a redhead" and a new character who can speak to and sometimes control the dead!! I'm excited to read future volumes!

BeastBoy is such a sweetheart. Vegan king with a monkey sidekick. <3

I loved this sooo much! This is one of the best Takes on Raven and Gar that I have ever read! I loved watching their relationship flourish! And omg! Max is such an interesting character! I love her and Damien together! Also I loved seeing a Starfire Cameo, and the Adelaide Kane cameo was brilliantly used!!! I can’t wait to see their next issue in the Teen Titans world!!!

No spoilers but this third installment in the Teen Titan's new graphic novel series adds some other team members into the mix, and I am LIVING for it. In fact, the supporting characters were the ones that shined for me in this sequel: the returning character of Raven's foster sister, Max, and one famous addition. The art is excellent, as always, and I love seeing my faves in this new reincarnation.

My only complaint stems from the fact that there was a lot of pressure for the romance to be excellent because it's a canon couple with a lot of hype (from me and from the fandom more broadly) that I carried with me into this read. Raven is one of my characters from any fandom, and not only the original material but also subsequent fan content makes this one of my top ships, as well. This story covers the first meeting of Raven & Gar, and it also tries to fit the start of their friendship and their romantic relationship into one small package. It didn't end up meeting my expectations on that front because the bar was so high. When things felt rushed and even forced to meet the end result, it was a bummer. Plus, there's a secondary romance competing for page space, to make things even more complicated.

I still look forward to the introduction of the full cast of characters (and then some). I need Teen Titan pizza and video game hangouts like I need air, so I can't wait to see them on the page. I'm also excited to see more of their powers in action, especially as a team. I still highly recommend the series. This just happens to be not my favorite of the volumes so far.

Thank you so much to Net Galley and DC Entertainment for giving me an ARC in exchange for a review!!

I read this book so quickly that I'm honestly surprised I didn't faint!
Beast Boy and Raven have always been my favorites from the Teen Titans even from the Nickelodeon cartoon series so it won't come as a surprise that I absolutely loved reading this book.

The book starts with Raven and Gar picking up where they left off from their individual books:
on the way to finding out who (or more what) they really are. And as fate had it, they bumped into each other only a few days after they left on their trips.

Without further spoilers, I think this gif pretty much sums the rest of the book up:

[gif of raven and beast boy from the animated Teen Titans show on Nickelodeon]

(but with a lot more cool scenes and cute interactions)

In conclusion, this book was everything I needed and the illustrations by Gabriel Picolo were so beautiful! I cannot wait to see what these two do next!

Raven is on her way to Nashville to meet up with Slade. Beast Boy is also on his way to meet up with Slade. They end up meeting each other, hanging out and sightseeing. They are taken when they are supposed to meet up with Slade. Damien Wayne came outta nowhere. Raven’s sister Max has been keeping watch over her. Damien and Max rescue Raven and Beast Boy. There is a tease of Starfire. Can’t wait for the next book!

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Book does a decent enough job at recapping the event of the first two so new readers can jump into the series from here. I was a fan of the artist from when he was just a fan artist and glad to see him on official DC books. I'm willing to bet Gabriel's fame sells more than this Kami Garcia writer does. The story isn't bad, but follows a pretty basic supernatural coming-of-age formula which makes it a bit too bland for my taste. It'll click with teenagers though, and that's who they're aiming for. While this book in the series focuses on the romance of these two characters, I have to say, the romantic writing is pretty amateur. I've read a lot of romances, so maybe I have higher standards, but it seems out-of-character for these two to even approach one another in the first place and their relationship dynamic isn't as interesting as it could be. Unfortunately, that's wasted potential. All that being said, of all the DC YA graphic novels, this series has been the best I've read.

Beast Boy Loves Raven is the third book in Kami Garcia's Teen Titans series. It's a fast paced graphic novel with amazing illustrations by Gabriel Picolo. It continues with the origin stories of Gar and Raven their meet cute and growing romance while sightseeing keeps the readers attention. There is some action and it leaves you wanting more. Can't wait until the fourth book!

3.5 stars

A good continuation of the story, I enjoyed this one more than the previous Beast Boy book. I liked how the two stories have come together and the new addition of characters. I am excited for the future team-ups between all the characters and how everyone will continue on their personal journies.

The art style is still enjoyable and the story being told with the coloring adds an extra layer. This is one series that I always enjoy.

I Decide My Fate

Kami Garcia and illustrator Gabriel Picolo return to give readers an endearing Raven and Beast Boy romance. Lured in by promises from Slade to learn more about their powers, Raven and Gar accidently meet in Nashville Tennessee. When Slade fails to show, both are left to tour the run-down city together. While their first meeting is stormy, as they get to know each other they find it’s nice not to be alone. Max, concerned about Raven’s journey, searches for her, and instead finds Damian Wayne.

Gabriel Picolo’s art is as detailed and consistently draw as his previous books. Including the use of Raven’s purple and Beast Boy’s green, to emphasis their dominant point of view. The action panels are dynamic and fun to read. Kami Garcia is faithful to Raven and Gar’s overall character, and their relationship is as fun and cute as expected. Though as in the previous books, these characters have a new origin story separate from the comics. Especially Damian, who has yet to meet his father. Max and Damian’s banter is a great dynamic, hopefully hinting at a future group team up.

Kami Garcia and illustrator Gabriel Picolo do a great job making these iconic comic characters accessible to a teen audience. Unburdened by the complicated web of comic book cannon, these characters have a lot to share about identity, and young adult relationships. All these characters have different complicated backgrounds, but they don’t have to face the uncertainty of being different alone. With the added bonus of Raven and Beast Boy falling in love. This is a wonderful addition to the Teen Titans Series, and for fans of superpower teens.

I really enjoyed this. The banter between Beast Boy and Raven was funny and nice. I grew up on Teen Titans and I loved the comics, so this was refreshing to read. I can't wait for Starfire's book!

Thank you NetGalley for sending this arc for an honest review!

In all honesty. This is a little more difficult to review vs the books I typically read. But I wanted to say that I enjoyed it beyond words. My entire life growing up I was surrounded my DC comics. I literally grew up watching teen titans go and seeing beast boy always getting rejected but the pale girl that as I am writing this just forget her name OH WAIT RAVEN HAHA. They always made me laugh. Now seeing this written in a different light and perspective I ended up enjoying it beyond reason. The art was a masterpiece as well. It depicted the form of their expression in a way they allows tears to swell thro ur eyes and I found that so spectacular the effect art can have when expressions r put together right. I loved the theme as well. The vibes, the colors. Beast boy and raven did it again and I cannot be any less proud. So excited to read more of their adventures.
