An interesting book about the Jersey Devil, monster hunters called "Coursers", and an old sanction for cryptids in the Pine Barrens. The story spans across a few different time periods (18th, 2oth, and 21st centuries). Sarah and Valentina are well developed characters. The Systema Paradoxa series is unique in that these are standalone books that are supposed to feel like a piece of recorded history about cryptid sightings, I guess like a documentary of sorts. It was a fairly quick read and held my attention well enough that I would read more from this author and am interested in the other Systema Paradoxa books now.
