The List by Carys Jones hooked me with its ominous cover. A few crumpled pieces of paper with the words, "Five Names. The First Two Are Dead. The Third Is Yours." My thriller loving heart was pounding reading the cover.

Beth finds this list on her morning run in the woods by her house. Coincidence? Doubtful. As she investigates the names and finds the first two have had suspicious deaths she starts to panic.

Narrator Charlotte Worthing does a great job making sure there are very distinct tones between dual time lines and ages. I was truly horrified by Beth's past actions. The start was intriguing, the middle disturbing and the end okay. A definite story prime for discussion.

I received a free copy of this audiobook from the publisher Dreamscape Media via #NetGalley for a fair and honest review. All opinions are my own.

This is one of those books that you want to read as fast as you can, because you can't wait to find out the ending. But also one of those books that you want to read as slow as possible, so you can savor every word, hoping it'll never end. I loved it! Will be following Carys Jones from now on. My advice - READ THIS BOOK!

Thank you to the publisher, author and NetGalley for sending me an audio copy of this book for my honest review.

audiobook review:

I recently had the opportunity to listen to The List by Carys Jones, my first read by this author, and it was a psychological thriller that kept me at the edge of my seat. Beth is out running one day when she discovers a list with her name on it. What does that mean? Imagine her shock when she discovers the names before hers are dead. This leads her down a path to learn what is going on. Told in three different point of views, I could not wait to find out how it would end.

Happy listening!

The List by Carys Jones stirred up a lot of mixed feelings and opinions for me. I LOVED the premise of the book: 5 names on a list, the first two are dead and the third one is yours. I mean, that hooked me from go, how could it not? I was so intrigued. The story kept me engaged but it seemed to be realistic as it went on. Beth, the main character who found the list, went through a very traumatic and terrible experience as a child with 5 other kids. First of all, the fact that she wouldn't automatically think about this incident as a possibility of the formation of the list is bizarre. Second of all, what these kids did was so horrible that I then HATED her. So I was like... is someone hunting her? Hope so! And I really don't think that was the author's intent. I think you are supposed to be rooting for the main character but I was incapable of doing so. The next misstep in the story was the ending. The reason this list was put together, the reason the other two are dead, what the intention of the list was frankly made no sense. You won't guess the ending but that's only because the ending falls so flat. It was a let down. To be fair, I did like this book for most of the book. It wasn't awful but, for me, the ending was a let down.

As for reviewing this book as an audiobook - I do believe that the book would've been better in writing. There was a lot of perspectives that changed but the audiobook didn't differentiate in any way whereas I'm sure the book would've had a space between paragraphs. It made it confusing and I found myself rewinding a lot for clarification.

The synopsis of this book totally hooked me and I was quite excited to delve into this one. I listened to the audiobook and while I enjoyed the narrator, it would have made the past/present timelines easier to tease apart if there had been 2 narrators or some kind of more obvious differentiation. Story wise, I was definitely on the edge of my seat at the beginning given the mystery surrounding the list and the fact the first two people are dead. Unfortunately, the story dragged a bit too much for my taste afterwards and it fell a bit flat as a result. The grand reveal occurred early into the book and if I'm honest, I really couldn't believe how Beth hadn't put 2 and 2 together as to why she was on that list/who the others were. That being said, if you are new to the genre, this might be an easy and enjoyable read for you!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐/5

A huge thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the audiobook arc in exchange for an honest review.

Please, please, please, please, please stop adding a way too easy to guess "mystery" and a bunch of vague references to someone's past onto an obvious sappy book and trying to call it a thriller. That's what this was. The cringe-worthy descriptions of Beth's boyfriend made me want to heave.

I was intrigued by the cover and the list - what could these names mean?
I liked the ultimate theme of the story. As the MC slowly unfolds her life for you, it was interesting to tie all the pieces together. But I found the story a little meandering to get there. It's such a unique twist because I don't think many stories pick up such a large theme, and one so violent. I just with the plot had been a bit more fast paced and had held me on the edge of my seat.

A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.

I had high hopes for this one and it delivered! Not gunna lie the cover sucked me in but the actual book lived up to it for sure. I loved the twists and turns and I never got bored while reading. 10/10

While Beth is out for her morning jog, she runs across a list of five names. Hers is the third name. What could the list mean? Spooked, Beth starts to investigate the first two names. When she find out they are dead, she panics! Is she next? Told in three voices, the reader is drawn in as the stories slowly converge. A story of guilt and remorse and a reminder that sometimes the past comes back to haunt you.

I received this as an audio galley to listen to for free in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me access.

Fining a list with your name on it, only to find out the ones before you have died? Sign me up for that mystery! Unfortunately the overall story did not live up to the synopsis. Yes, there is a list with and the previous people have died, but the mystery as to who they were, was a little lack luster for my taste.

The bouncing around from past to present was confusing in audio format, this one may just be better off as a physical read. I couldn't keep track of who we were following or when we were following. I really wanted to enjoy this one more than I did, but this will be going on my 'do not purchase' list.

Thanks #netgallery for access to this book. Unfortunately I can't say that I enjoyed this. I quickly became frustrated and annoyed with the main character. As many others have said, I can't imagine that she couldn't figure out "the list." I had high hopes at the beginning of the book but lost interest.

I didn't really enjoy this book. It had potential but dragged for me. I did not care too much for the main character Beth. Beth has found a list with her name on it and 4 other names. She finds out that 2 people on the list are dead. Is she next? Throughtout the book the reader has to figure out what is this list and why is she on it. I'm not sure if it would have fared better if I had read the book instead of listening to an audio.

The twist just keep coming. This book was a first for me by this author and I enjoyed her writing and character a lot I will be reading more of her books. Beth Belmont is the main character in the book even though different chapters tell other sides of the story. Beth loves to run and runs every morning in the woods across from her home. The feeling running gives Beth is one she can't seem to give up. At times I wondered if running helps Beth or if it's her way of trying to run away from the past that takes up a big chunk of her time and energy. One day as Beth is running she comes across a slip of paper that seems out of place so she stops to pick it up. It's a list of 5 names, but there's something odd about this list of names because her name is number 3. She has no idea who the other people are and no idea why she is one of them. As Beth begins to research the people on the list she finds out that the first and second names, Joanne and Trevor, are people who have died. Does that mean she will be next? As Beth begins to look into their deaths it leads her down a rabbit hole i'm not sure she will come out of or at least not alive. This was a unique storyline and I enjoy all the twist that came with it. I enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book. Charlotte Worthing did an amazing job of narrating the book and keeping you engaged in the story.

I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the audio book. The story was interesting and it did keep me interested. I am not sure if other people would agree there is not much action etc. But if you are looking for a good mystery check this book out!

A young woman finds a list in the woods with 5 names written on it, hers being the third name. She soon learns that the first two people on the list have met untimely demises, and she wonders if she will be next. However, soon her sordid past begins to reveal why she was named on the list.

I really wanted to like this book as the premise was so good. However, the way this book was written was just so boring. I was expecting a page turning thriller, but this book was such a slow, drawn out drama. The characters are all unlikable and at the end you don’t really care what happens. Fans of The Secret History by Donna Tart may like this book because it kind of gave me similar vibes.

Overall, I cannot recommend this book. I only finished it because it was an ARC. Special thanks to Netgalley and Dreamscape for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This thriller had a ton of promise. A woman while jogging comes across a list of names and hers is on it. She doesn't recognize any of the other names but when she starts to investigate, she discovers the first two have died in suspicious ways. Her name is third. Sounds super intriguing, doesn't it?

The first half was suspenseful. There were numerous reveals that kept detonating like small explosions. A twist here and a twist there. It was also cryptic, pulling the reader into the mystery.

But then it all came together and the mystery was solved at the 75% mark. The remaining quarter was wrap up, some drama and more wrap up. I wasn't sold on the way this book ended. Left me feeling deflated. I also thought the whole major reveal was a bit weak and didn't find it all that plausible.

I listened to the audiobook and my experience was mixed. The narrator was good but the story really needed two narrators for the different perspectives. Truth be told, it was confusing at times given all of the different names and characters. I had a hard time following along at certain points in the story. Maybe a better book to read than listen.

It was an easy listen and one that I finished in a day. Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the free audiobook copy of The List by Carys Jones, in exchange for my honest review.

Audio books are always hit or miss for me. I either love them or they fall flat. Unfortunately The List is one of those cases where it just didn’t work. It wouldn’t be fair for me to give this book a rating so I’m not going to.

Due to current health problems it was difficult for me to listen to this book. However the switching POVs made it very hard, almost impossible to follow at some points in audio format. I think The List has a very intriguing premise and decent execution. I simply believe it is better served when consumed physically and not in audio format. I would be interested in picking this up and giving it another shot as a physical copy.

I’m not sure what to think about this one. The story was pretty interesting, but, (maybe because of being an audiobook) it was hard to figure out when the unreliable narrator was talking and who the actual person was, as well as any idea of their endgame. . I had trouble getting clarification on who the other person talking was.
Overall the story was pretty good and definitely a mystery.
