Nachos For Dinner is everything a 10 year old me wanted in a cookbook and so much more!
The book starts with a quick history of nachos and the typical cookbook, “what you’ll need” information for making all of the recipes. It also addresses the dilemma with nachos. Mainly that they are often too big for an appetizer, but not substantial enough to be considered an entree. Whalen sets out to fix that dilemma with substantial nacho recipes for any time of day!
Some of the favorite recipes included caprese nachos and s'more nachos, because who doesn’t want a nacho version of s'mores?! The book also included lots of recipes for sauces, salsas and guacamoles! Well worth the read!

Fun, bright recipes for the easiest (if not necessarily healthiest) family meal, nachos. Whalen includes recipes for all of the nacho components, including lots of tasty morsels from across the world, along with excellent advice about layering, flavoring, and devouring your nachos. A tribute to the fusion of cuisines that is American food, as well as likely to be a family favorite.

Packed with yummie recipes, Dan Whalen's Nachos for Dinner is filled with inspired ways to enjoy NACHOS.

I've enjoyed more than my share of this favorite bar food... but it's usually covered in beans, cheese, and taco meat. If you're lucky there'll be some sour cream and salsa on the side.

Well, Dan Whalen covers everything from creative cheese sauces, to unique and tasty toppings, to different methods of preparation.

Truly something for everyone, delivered with easy to follow recipes and colorful pictures. Something new for die-hard fans of nachos!

Nachos for Dinner is a cool collection of sheet pan recipes developed and curated by Dan Whalen. Due out 11th Jan 2022 from Workman Publishing, it's 160 pages and will be available in hardcover and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately.

I liked this book's layout. It begins with an introduction covering tools and supplies and a little history including the different ingredients (most will already be on hand) and also staples to keep on hand (ditto - they'll be available in a well stocked kitchen).
The recipes are arranged thematically: basic nachos (including homemade tortilla chips!), soups salads &appetizers, sandwiches & tacos (nachofied), comfort food, and brunches & midnight snacks. Each recipe includes serving yields, special notes, variations, and tips, and prep times. Recipe ingredients are listed in a bullet style in a sidebar along with optional ingredients. All measurements are given in American standard measures only (there is a measurement conversion table included in the back of the book). The directions are given step by step, numbered sequentially. The nutritional information is not provided.

The photography is not abundant. Roughly 15-20% of the dishes are accompanied by photos. All the serving suggestions are attractive and appropriate and the food is styled and presented very well. (I just wish there were more photos).

The recipes' ingredients are easily sourced and the resultant dishes are family friendly and appealing to kids and adults. For cooks who are living alone or couples, very many of the included recipes are freezer friendly and could be scaled up or down easily. There are a number of these which will become staples for my family. The salsas and sauces especially have a lot of versatility for other types of dishes than just nachos and would be great as sides and marinades.

Four stars. Timesaving, nutritious, and tasty.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

This cookbook contains all sorts of variations on the typical nachos. The first part of the book gives instructions for making chips, a large variety of salsas and sauces, slaws, guacamoles, cremas, and all sorts of veggies. Then there's a good section on meats, fishes, and tofu. Midway through the book is where you find the instructions for putting these pieces together for a meal. Sure, there are the typical nacho recipes, but also some interesting combinations such as Caprese Nachos or Falafel Nachos. Finally, there's a short section on dessert nachos. I probably wouldn't try most of these recipes, just based on my own tastes (e.g., I'd rather have stroganoff than "stroganachos"), but some might find this book interesting enough to purchase!

This is an inventive cookbook that I enjoyed previewing very much. I prepared several of the nacho “dinners” and they were outstanding. A particular favorite , the street corn nachos. I found that following the amounts of Ingredients suggested created the balance of ingredients for perfect nachos every time. The variety of recipes was great , including many different ethnic food ideas and even dessert nachos.
The directions were very clear and specific. The photography was well done.
I especially liked that the preparation of many “ingredients” were included , for instance the section about making fresh cremas , salsas and the seasoned proteins for the nacho recipes.
This book is perfect for busy families who want some great fun meals and young people starting out on their own - thinking of college students and young professionals.
Thanks to NetGalley and Workman Publishing for the opportunity to try out this cookbook.

Well I was very skeptical about this cookbook at first. Come on how many ways are there to make nachos. This book turned out to be a joy and an interesting read. I will admit that some of the recipes were a bit of a stretch for nachos, but I liked the creativity that came behind the ideas. There also some basic recipes like Corn Salsa and Hot sauces. My favorite part was the creative recipes though like Habanana Sauce! I'm looking forward to trying this even though I don't like bananas. (I'm willing to try anything once.) Though I don't believe it will be anything groundbreaking I'm also interested in trying the Soupchos. I want to see if it's worth drizzling French Onion Soup over tortillas. I can't wait to find out.

A great book for nacho lovers or those who enjoy that style of food. The author starts with the formula for a perfect nacho - crispy base, melty layer, flavorful topper - and offers tons of traditional and nontraditional recipes and compositions.
Recipe chapters are Building Blocks, and then the following but as nachos: Soups, Salads, and Apps; Sandwiches and Tacos; Hearty Comfort; and Brunches and Midnight Snacks (also includes some dessert options).
The book talks about assembly, and for salsa and guacamole in addition to having various recipes, there are also pages with mix and match charts to combine certain amounts of component categories to make something up on your own.
This book covers a wide variety of flavors and meal types, from Indian to cheese steak to potatoes to breakfast. There are color photos for quite a few but not all of the recipes. It's a good guide for the topic and will likely give new ideas to readers.

If I could only pick one food to eat for the rest of my life the choice would easily be nachos. This cookbook lived up to my high expectations and really had it all. It started with the basics and broke down what is needed to make the perfect nacho. The book contained a wide variety of recipes including some really unique recipes including ones for Thanksgiving nachos and the crowd pleasing cheesy bacon potato chipchos. Overall, this was a wonderfully written cookbook that I look forward to adding to my cookbook collection.

Nachos for Dinner by Dan Whalen

Ok. This was a really cool @netgalley review. I adore cookbooks and I own entirely too many. I will ABSOLUTELY be buying this book.

Dan goes through the full breakdown of the perfect nacho (better chips hold better toppings make for a better bite). He has recipes for your own chips and salsas and creams and different meats and and and 😍

But then we get to the bulk of it and all the different and new ideas for nachos themselves. I saw the Cubano Nachos and absolutely HAD. TO. MAKE.
Let me tell you, it’s like the best part of a Cuban sandwich, good meats, heavy flavor, so much cheese, but so insanely easy and group friendly.

He has ideas for breakfast, brunch, dinner, dessert AND the trashy microwave nachos we all secretly love. Please please keep an eye out for this in early 2022. It’s fun, it’s tasty, and it’s very well done.

I'm honestly starving after looking at all the recipes in this book. And yeah, after the first batch, I was like, Not A Nacho, but I no longer cared. This had everything I needed from a cookbook: delicious-looking easy-to-follow recipes, a lack of repetition, acknowledgement of vegetarians and vegans, and honoring the culture where the recipes come from. I could live without seeing the word "inspo" ever again, but I know what I'm in for when I open a cookbook in 2021. ¯\_(..)_/¯

Once you have learned to make your own tortillas and sauces (including a vegan cheese sauce!) at home, Dan starts you on the MANY varied takes on nachos! From coverting a salad (nachofy it!) or a sandwich, to traditional concepts of nachos, to late night snacks, it's all in here! This is definitely a cookbook the younger crowd will enjoy! Dessert options are unique and great for last minute guests!
Add this book with some fun ingredients, and you have a great Christmas gift idea for adults kids who have moved into their own place, or for singles who like to cook for a crowd! Also makes a great hostess gift!

This book intrigued me. I don’t like to go to too much trouble when I make food, so this sounded interesting. Overall, I’m underwhelmed. I gained the insight that when you don’t think you have food around, you can get awfully creative. And some of the basics recipes seemed decent (guac, nacho cheese, salsa formulas, etc.) but also things you could easily find online. The pull of this book is that you can make a variety of nachos. Only half of the book is actually the nacho recipes though. I expected a better selection and can even think of some ideas that were missing. Overall, I would thumb through this for some ideas. Its strength is in the basics recipes: taco meat, chili for nachos and pico de gallo, and more. But at the end of the day, this is just some white dude with a creative plate of chips and stuff he thought seemed interesting to combine. I didn’t find his credibility or anecdotes to add much. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What's for dinner? Nachos! This is a great little cookbook to add to your collection. The author does a great job of teaching the reader how to make all of the separate elements of traditional nachos in the first part of the book. The rest of the book is spent exploring options for nachos that the reader may not have thought of before, but they WORK! Good take on a perennial favorite.

The truth is, I am not a great cook but I like the idea of trying new things. So in my naivety about cooking I had no idea, there were so many fantastic recipes for Nachos. In Dan Whalen's book Nachos for Dinner, the hardest decision is which recipe to try first because they all look fantastically delicious.
From Cheesesteak Nachos to Banh Mi Nachos, there is something to inspire all tastebuds, but it's the chicken and waffle nachos that have my name all over them.
Each recipe is well set out and easy to follow, with an explanation about the recipe. Sometimes it is about how the recipe came about., other times there are handy tips.
I appreciate that there is a conversion table seeing I use celsius, grams and metric measurements.
Must have read for all nacho lovers.
