NACHOS FOR DINNER? Yes, please!

Obviously the title of this book drew me in. I’m a snack food kind of person, so the thought of turning a snack food for dinner, I just couldn’t resist.

Starting with, a brief history of nachos, author, Dan Whalen taught me a few things I didn’t know. Seriously, my outlook on these tasty chips has been broadened and I can’t way to make my first, nacho dinner nummy.

Just a fraction of the recipes you’ll find in NACHOS FOR DINNER are . . . Tortilla Chips (of course), Nacho Cheese Sauce, Corn Salsa, Roasted Tomato Salsa, Creamy Crunchy Slaw, BLT Guac, Herby Crema, Meaty Pinto Beans, Red Curry Chickpeas, Fajita-Style Veggies, Taco-Style Ground Beef, Chicken Tinga, Cilantro Lime Shrimp, Caprese Nachos, French Onion Soupchos, Cheesy Bacon Potato Chipcos, Scallion Pancake Nachos, Lobster Nachos, Italian Sub Nachos, Chicken Parm N0t-Chos, Lasagn’Chos, Pretzel Bratchos, Breakfast Nachos, Trashy Microwave Nachos, Apple Pie Nachos . . . and so any more.

I love having photos of all the recipes. While not every recipe has a single page photo of the finished dish, most have a photo of some size.

Clear instructions plus creative combinations equal delicious meals based on one of the world’s favorite chips . . . Nachos! You simply can’t go wrong!

Great ideas for more "grownup" nachos and nachos for meals! Love the breakfast nacho ideas. Who knew nachos could be so much more awesome?

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this read and it sparked my imagination and creativity. The author is clearly an experienced and highly-recognized chef, yet focuses on something simple: nachos. He provides a brief review of nachos, discusses the basics of nacho recipes, and offers opportunities for readers to be as simple or complicated as desired during preparation.

There is a great deal of humor mixed throughout, which is great, as sometimes recipe books can read rather dry. My favorite parts of the whole book are little charts he has sprinkled throughout, which describe basic food types and recipe ‘templates’ (if you will) for a balanced dish. This allows great creativity with the readers and allows them to better understand the relationship between recipe counterparts.

The structure of the book is also appreciated. The author begins with various recipes to begin with parts of nachos, ie protein preparation or salsas, then moves on to “putting it together”, applying these to specific nacho recipes. I was also surprised and impressed that the author has nacho recipes for breakfast, dinner and dessert, and has many vegan and vegetarian options as well.

I highly recommend. It is worth the money and read. Even if nachos is not always what you are interested in preparing, the details about preparing a balanced meal are applicable to all food genres.

Thank you NetGalley for my free copy. The details above are mine without influence.

This is such a mouth watering food book! Who knew there were so many different ways to utilise the humble nacho? The book allows you to make a vast array of different meals from a overwhelming variety of cuisines and also the accompaniments you can have with them. This is a perfect gift!

Thank you NetGalley, Dan Whalen and Workman Publishing Company for the ARC of Nachos for Dinner. This is my personal review.
First let me say the title got my attention- Nachos for Dinner! What’s not to love about that idea. But then to find recipes that are for every meal and any time of day! We are a nacho loving family, and this cookbook was a joy to read. We love the idea of the different ideas of what to use to make something other than the standard nachos we all know and love. I can not wait to have a party and show off my nacho making skills to my guests!
I will be buying a copy of this for myself and all my friends and family to have in their cook collections.

Ive already Pre Ordered this. The recipes are all delectable and creative. If your family loves Nachos and mine does its worth the read.

I would honestly knock off a star for the amoung of illustrations. Theyre arent enough in here to suit my need. Its unfortunate theyre arent more detailomg how the plates should look. I dont care if theyre "just nachos" needs more than what you have decided to include here. Only downfall I see. Cant wait to get my hardback copy!

Thank you to Netgalley and publishers for thr advanced copy of this e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

What a great gift for a foodie or a nachoaholic.
Such a creative idea. It starts with the basics and builds on what you know and will take you outside of your comfort zone. And nachos is used loosely but I mean who doesn’t love a well put together nacho dish. I am trying the chicken broccoli alfredo nachos. And I made notes about his black bean recipe - I will report back.

Also I LOVE the charts! So fun and a great way to summarize.

Big thanks to Workman Publishing, Dan Whalen and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this delightful and fun cookbook for my honest opinion.

Nachos for Dinner by Dan Whalen isn't actually a recipe book for nachos, despite what it says on the cover. By framing everything as potential nachos, Whalen encourages us to think beyond traditional meals and explore. The brilliance of Nachos for Dinner is the culinary journey that Whalen invites us to embark upon.

At the same time, Nachos for Dinner offers the harried homeworker reassurance that every component doesn't have to be homemade and it is perfectly OK to use convenience foods; the talent is in the combination. Whalen offers a fool proof nacho sauce made with freshly grated cheese of your sauce as well as a vegan version based on potatoes and cashews but then follows up with using Cheez Whiz for the Cheesesteak Nachos. While I might draw the line at frozen chicken nuggets and waffles as primary ingredients of a meal, I concede that the combination is an imaginative way to break out of a meat-and-two-vegetable rut.

The spicy and savory Mexican braised cabbage (tinga de repollo), presented as a critical component of both cabbage roll nachos and brats and cabbage nachos, is a great example of the unexpected mash-ups that Whalen is so good at. Other fantastic fusion dishes include Red Curry Chickpeas, Jalapeno Margarita-glazed tofu and Cubano Nachos based on the classic Medianoche sandwich, starting with a pork chop marinade and finished with just a drizzle of mustard.

The book is gloriously organized for cooking ahead: each component recipe is listed separately with a note as to how long it will keep in the fridge. Readers new to TexMex cooking will find a wide range of sauces and salsas including a step-by-step guide to basic guacamole followed by half a dozen variations. The honey-chipotle hot sauce has become a staple on our kitchen table.

The layout makes it trivial to prepare the component recipes in advance before creating a show-stopping dinner in just 20 minutes by combining everything onto a sheet pan. You can make your way through all of the nachos variations or use the cheat sheet for combining components for burritos. Most of the components would not be out of place on a pizza or served on top of a bowl of beans (themselves a component, with both "basic black beans" and "meaty pinto beans" on offer). The heartier dishes, ranging from cumin-roasted cauliflower to braised lamb beerbacoa, are right at home served on a bed of rice for a fast and easy dinner.

This is the power of Nachos for Dinner. Whalen's latest is not not actually an encouragement to each nachos every night but instead, it offers a culinary choose-your-own-adventure for a broad range of tastes and cooking styles.

I wasn't sure what I was getting when I was offered an advance review copy of the cookbook but I am completely won over. I would recommend Nachos for Dinner to nacho lovers, sure, but it offers much more than that. Cooks of various levels who are interested in exploring good food in new combinations will have fun with these recipes, even if they never actually serve nachos for dinner.

Do you have a nacho friend? Nacho friends are the best.

Prepare for a nacho friend date with this innovative cookbook! This title shares everything nacho from how-to's of making the traditional corn chip to making "pancake" nachos. You will find comfort food turned nacho like chicken Broccoli Alfredo and twists on nachos like Cheesy Bacon Potato Chipchos. Learn how to top your nachos with raw fish, lobster, and charizo.

Highly reccomend.

First up, thank you thank you for the book and allowing me, a big NACHO fan to read it. However, after 40-50% I just gave up. I have counted about 4 photographs in that time. For a cookbook it is highly important and part of the charm to have photographs for all of your dishes and recipes. Even sauces. But even later when we got to bigger things the photographs were very sparse, and sorry just reading recipe after recipe after recipe.. I got so bored that I noticed that nothing stuck. So I would love to read this one again.... if it has photographs.
Plus, it was quite American with stuff I haven't seen in stores here or meats I just cannot get easily, not to mention measurements and such that would be nice if there was a conversion immediately given. Hello, most of the world uses metric.

As a beginners guide for learning to make various nacho dishes, this is a great introductory cookbook to start with! However, as someone who wants an adventurous, out-of-the-ordinary spin on nacho-making cuisine, this book is on the low end of the “adventure” spectrum. I have already seen recipes for “dessert” and “ultimate” nachos and hoped for more in regard to spectacular nacho making.

I received an ARC from the author and publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Great for those who like nachos. A great starting basics then goes into dishes that are nacho-style. Good for those who want a variation of this dish.

Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of “Nachos for Dinner”! This cookbook is full of recipes for every occasion and palette, and includes vegetarian options, desserts (try the s’mores nachos!), and some perfect recipes for game day. I can’t wait to try the pierogi nachos this fall!

This is one of those cookbooks that could get lost in a sea of others since it’s particularly focused, but these are much more than your parents’ nachos!

Thanks to Workman Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this delightful and fun cookbook.

There's a lot to love about this cookbook. There are so many unique recipes such as Caprese nachos, street corn nachos, lobster nachos, and cheeseburger nachos. Then there are chipless options, too - falafel, chicken tikka masala naanchos, lasagn'chos. Another interesting component to this book is that the sauce and topping recipes are separate from the nachos so it makes it easy for you to use those recipes in other dishes of your choosing. This would be a great book to have on hand if you like to host football parties or other events where appetizers are a must,

This was a very fun cookbook and I will definitely be suggesting that my library buy it! I liked that it included both actual recipes and some general guidelines for how to make your own nachos. My favorite unconventional variation were the scallion pancake nachos. My partner and I had fun cooking with this book and the one pan clean up was nice too!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review an advanced reader's copy of this book. This in no way affects my review, all opinions are my own.

NACHOS! Who does not love nachos? If you don't, I don't want to know you. :)

Anything can be made into nachos (or salsa), it seems and with all of the yummy recipes in this book, I can't wait to try them all.

I wish the nutritional info had been included as well.

Lots of variations of nachos (LARB! Sign me up!) and even some made with pierogies!

A very yummy and entertaining little collection.

What a fun take on a food that I could (and now probably will) eat for every meal! I love that it covers basics as well as much more involved recipes.

As someone who enjoys nachos, I was interested in this book. It includes some interesting takes on nachos beyond chips, cheese and salsa, such as using lasagna noodles or scallion pancakes as the chips.

When I saw this cookbook on Netgalley, of course I had to get my hands on it. Who doesn’t love nachos?! Now, I am vegetarian, and cook vegan as much as possible. So no, this book isn’t really catered to me. But… it does have a recipe for vegan cheese sauce in it, and plenty of other options. And with some creativity and a decently stocked supermarket nearby you can get a long way!

The book starts of with some of the more ‘usual’ nacho toppings, giving us loads of recipes for salsas (including instructions on how to make your own salsa recipes: “Anything can be salsafied!”), hot sauces, slaws, guacamoles, cremas, beans, veggies, proteins… ending with a chart on how you could combine all these toppings (but letting you free to make whatever combinations you fancy).

And then we move on the the more unusual nachos… such as caprese nachos, french onion soupchos, potato chipchos, scallion-pancake nachos… moving on to chapters such as “Sandwiches and Tacos (but make them Nachos)“… fish taco nachos, cheeseburger nachos, bahn mi nachos, italian sub nachos, lamb gyros nachos, falafel nachos… or what about Hearty Comfort – in Nacho Form … Chicken Parm Not-Chos, Broccoli Alfredo Nachos, Tikka Masala Naanchos, Lasagn’chos, Beef Bulgogi Nachos, Stroganachos, Pierogi Nachos… and then we haven’t even talked about the Breakfast Nachos, the Chicken and Waffle Nachos, the Trashy Microwave Nachos or the Raspberry Cheesecake Nachos.

So of course I made a bunch of recipes… and oh my. That stuff was Delicious!!! I haven’t had a go at the more exotic recipes yet (Gyros on Pita crackers is as crazy as I got), but even regarding the more normal recipes, these were some of the best nacho’s I’ve ever had. The recipes themselves are fairly simple and the ingredients easily available (the only thing I couldn’t find at our supermarket was a jicama).

The book itself looks great as well. It is bright, vibrant and clear. I would have preferred some more pictures… mainly just to drool over. I love how there is both a lot of guidence if you need it, but you are also let free to experiment and just do whatever you want.

I will most definitely get my hands on a physical copy of this book, and I cannot wait to work my way through it. They may not be The healthiest dinners, but damn they are tasty ones.

lots of great recipes and combinations that I hadn't thought of before. But, the lack of pictures was disappointing. The really good cookbooks? They have pictures of some sort for each recipe. You eat with your eyes first and using your imagination just doesn't do the trick.
