I loved how this book explained and showed how easy it was to draw the characters in such vivid detail. The book was well written and had easy to read instructions.

3.5 Stars for How to Draw Anime Characters

This book gives some good how to draw tips for anyone who's interested in learning to draw. This is a very beginner level "how to draw" book specifically drawing anime characters. I would recommend this book to anyone who's loves anime and is curious about learning to draw.

This was cute. My kid loved it! We read it together before bed. He liked the characters and the graphics. He loves anime and loves to try to draw!

This is actually a pretty nifty little book to have if you're somewhere around beginner level with drawing and want to just get the basics down for drawing anime characters. I loved that it explains all the different materials you can use, and the pros and cons of each, and takes you through different inking tools. It was all really useful information.

A few caveats - as other reviewers have mentioned, the characters are pretty similar and don't vary a whole lot, which can be a little frustrating. Also, and this one is just a 'my experience' thing, but it affected my review - the images in the ebook often didn't line up well, and sometimes the text was all over the place, so getting instructions or learning from this book (the main reason I picked it up) was virtually impossible.

I think this is a nice little beginner book, but just wish the formatting in my copy had been a little better!

I really recommend this book to people who like to have explanation as to how to draw something. Indeed there is a lot of text with tips, instruction and explanations. It is all very basic however so it is a good first book if you haven't read any "how to draw" before. I wouldn't recommend it if you already know how to draw the basic shapes.

I enjoyed reading this book on how to draw anime characters. And I was surprised by how many things were explained in just a 100 pages. Of course it's just the basic but enough I think to be able to start on drawing the anime characters.

How to draw anime books are always a hit, and part of my job is acquiring these books for my school district's citywide digital library. This is exactly what I'm looking for: clear instructions, strong art, good visuals.

I actually passed this book to my older son who is very into drawing anime, manga and his own comic characters as I decided h was far more qualified to give an accurate review. This is what he said:

I would definitely recommend this book for a beginner artist. The book has a good cover of the basics for drawing characters and people, Even going as far as describing the materials you should use and how to use them correctly. The character designs go from poses and body structure to expressions and how to truly build your character.
While the book has a good grip of the basics needed to start drawing characters, it lacks information that could be of use to much more experienced artists. Tools such as digital drawings aren’t included for example.

Out of 5 I’d give this book a 4 since it’s perfect for starting, yet I feel it lacks something for those going beyond the beginning phase.

If you want to learn how to draw anime characters this is the book to buy. It not only teaches you how to draw but also teaches you about your tools and when to use them before you even start drawing. Just an amazing how to book and now I have new techniques to use when drawing. highly recommend for anyone learning to draw even if you aren't interested in anime.

This is a very helpful book for people who are interested to learn drawing the anime style art form. I found it very helpful and have tried the exercises and guides which were in the book. This book covers the basics and it is a good one for people, artists who are just starting out.

I found this to be really helpful. I like how everything was broken up, like the drawing exercises, explanations, and it even provided background context to things like color theory. It starts off with the basic facial features and goes into anatomy drawing. The guides were great for practice as well. Definitely recommend this to any beginners out there!

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my copy!

Its a pretty basic book to introduce you in the anime/manga art world.

For me it wasn’t what i was looking for, most of the topics that touch the book i already knew it but i think its a great book for beginners artist

How to Draw Anime Characters is a nice guide for absolute beginners, with lots of general info (tools, paper, etc.).
Then there are step by step instructions on how to draw a body, a face, and different expressions. And while the explanations aren't bad, the given examples are mediocre at best. All of the example drawings, be they of children or grown men and women, have the exact same body (women only get boobs, but the general body shape is copy-paste). And the style itself doesn't look very inviting.
Probably the best part in the book was mystical creatures - those actually looed nice.
I'd recommend novices to give a read to the book, before moving on on more in depth how-tos.

I received a complimentary copy of this title from the publisher through NetGalley. Opinions expressed are my own.

I recently decided to try to learn how to draw very simple characters and chibis, so I was very excited to see this up for review. I was very soon disappointed, however, when I started going through it.

I'm not sure if it just didn't mesh with my learning style or what exactly happened, but I found it to be very difficult to access as a complete beginner. In my opinion, I think it should be billed as a more "intermediate" level book. There wasn't much actual instruction--or even drawings--to learn anything from.

Again, this could have been me, as a non-artistic soul. But I did find this particular guide helpful or interesting.

I have been trying to learn how to draw human figures in any style really, but anime character styles have been really fascinating to me. This book goes into detail on how each of the elements of the human body would look like in the style and it was fun to learn a few more new things.
Thank you to netgalley for providing me with this book.

I am way out of the target for manga and anime, but I am always a sucker for a how-to-draw book and this slim volume is pretty good! I was especially impressed by the scope of the book and the efficiency yet thoroughness it covered the details of tools and materials, elements of line, shape, and color, Anyone interested in learning to develop comic-style characters, anime or not, will find plenty of information, exercises, and step-by-step how-to drawings to get started.

This is a really helpful guide especially for beginners. I liked that it starts with some simple drawing exercises to get a feeling for your pencils and how to work with them. From there on it advances from drawing the face over body parts towards more complex poses and specific characters. Since it‘s starting from scrach but also explores more difficult aspects like shading and colouring this book can be interesting for experienced artists as well. I really enjoyed reading it and now I feel like I really can do it and you can, too. I would just have liked a little more pictures and examples.

Informative and does the job. More description and explanation of different art concepts than the books I used to look at when I was a kid. I think this will be a very good reference book for people of any age looking to begin drawing anime characters!
