If you have a young budding artist in your life who has a particular interest in Anime, this book provides a decent introduction to the craft, with good sections on the tools of the trade, as well as how to construct bodies and how the face conveys emotion. That being said, should your artist really get serious about Anime, they will most likely not take long to move beyond the basics included here. In a nutshell, this book would be a nice addition to a Middle Grade classroom library or anyplace where it would be available to students looking for a primer on the art of Anime.

I thought I'd take a look at this with my nine year old who is a keen drawer and anime fan. His feedback was that it's too complicated and unnecessary to do all the steps. I can't drawer to save my life and found it very useful to do all the steps. So I'd definitely say it is for beginners rather than more able drawers.

I love drawing, and for the ones who are trying new art types and also the ones who never picked up a pencil to draw, this book is super helpful! It helped me a lot with things like inks and the step by step pictures. Really loved it.

Thank you to NetGalley, BooksGoSocial, and Fluffels House for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a very basic beginner level "How To Draw" book with a focus specifically on anime characters.

Th book goes in a structural order, starting with being prepared with various supplies, if the artist really wants to go all-out on this. (I of course had to at least draw something from this book as a sample; I was going to hand-draw and use colored pencils, but I ended up using a digital drawing program to draw mine).

This book goes over the basics, such as using shapes and lines to form something, and how to do body parts, such as hands, feet, heads, and torsos, individually, before putting them all together.

This book also goes over different types of anime characters and how to draw them, such as teenage boys and girls, preteens, bad guys, humor, and even fantasy type characters (that section was quite inspiring). While the basics are laid out, there is a lot to work with in this book to allow the artist a start and to add their own creative flare (as I did with my own sample). I highly recommend this book for beginning artists interested in drawing anime characters.

See my Goodreads review for my sample art piece :).

This ebook does give good tips for those who want to attempt drawing anime characters for their leisure or for work. However the issue I have is the characters shown in the anime all look the same. I would advice the author to give other anime artists a go on showing how they design their characters.

Thanks anyways, Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for the easy access to this instruction book!

Really good tips, especially for beginners. I think anyone could learn to draw with the detailed notes and step by step sketches. It’s really made me think differently of the way to draw characters. I guess that’s where I was going wrong!

Good price for the content.

Many thanks to netgalley and the publishers for my copy to review.

A great in-depth book on how to draw anime characters. There’s information about the Japanese nib and nib holder, ink to use etc I like the step by step pictures. I’d have liked more pictures and examples though.

All in all a good, thorough guide to get the budding artist started.

Thank you to #netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

I expected this book to be a simple step by step guide on how to draw anime characters but it was so much more.
It went into great detail on what pencils to use, how to shade and where, even how to choose your colour palate.
I am not a great drawer and I have never really understood anything about shading but there was a section of this book that went into really good detail about it.
Great book that is fab for anyone who loves Anime, and for anyone with an interest in drawing.

A great book that explains the different tools of drawing... It also has great examples of drawing exercises to improve your techniques. I especially like the section on shading, sketching...etc. A terrific book for beginners and intermediate students who wants to improve their drawing.

Thanks to the publisher for providing an ARC.

This book is perfect for all the anime fans and even those who are new to drawing and want to learn. Was pleasantly surprised by the thoroughness of this book. The author perfectly explained all the materials to use and started from the basics to upwards. This might not be for those who already are aware of the basics and already good at everything art but even then there is always something new you can learn.

More than a anime drawing book How to Draw Anime Characters reads more like an introduction to drawing book. First of all, I know there are many styles of anime, but the particular style used in this book did not appeal to me at all. I was not a fan of any of these drawings. Perhaps this book would be good for beginning artists looking to copy a mediocre style, but for those of us who have been drawing for a while and want a more diverse book, this is not the book. I was hoping for an exploration of different types of anime styles, but just got this one basic style. This was not the book I had hoped it would be.

I am very impressed with this book. From the tools required for drawing Anime and Manga to the drawing skills required, and illustrated examples of them, this is a book for beginners and more experienced artists alike, and I enjoyed reading it. Highly recommended.
