Disclaimer: Although I received this book in exchange for my honest review…all the thoughts and feelings are my own!!!!!

Vampires …add werewolfs + a very old hotel, and I was sold lol
A quick , fast paced book full of action and magical beings. I enjoyed so much that I found myself turning pages (swiping - because ebook duh) so quickly ….ended uo reading this in one sitting, in a couple of hours.

The plot was very well executed, the writting style was good.
The worldbuilding was unique and good, although I would have liked to know more about the background of the hotel.

I found the main character Kennedy very interesting from the first pages.. so it wasn’t hard to connect with her.

I can’t wait to read the next book in this series…….and I would recommend this book because it’s a “once you pick it up, you can’t put it down until it’s finished” kind of book!!

Thank you so much NetGalley and Sandy Williams for providing me a copy of this beautiful book in exchange of an honest review!

The story follows Kennedy and her family business running a hotel for paranormal creatures. The hotel is a place void of magic and is where vampires, werewolves and other paranormal creatures can find sanctuary from their powers. Kennedy doesn't want to run the family business but finds herself in a situation where she is stuck doing so.

The concept of this book was really unique and interesting. The writing and world building was great. There are some details in the characters and world that could use more details which leads to lack of investment on my part. There were questions I wanted answers to but the story didn't leave any explanation, it just is which left me hating it a bit.

I totally thought there would be some steamy romance in this book and basically it was non-existent. There was some chemistry in the air between the characters but that is as far as it goes.

The ending, it just ended. There is no cliffhanger or any resolve. I'm not sure if this feels worst than cliffhangers (I think it does!). I hope the author writes the next book soon. I think the story is interesting to continue on but the abrupt ending and extra explanation would make the story feel whole.

When I started A Void of Magic I was hoping for several good hours, and it delivered. It was actually surprisingly more interesting, entertaining and almost captivating read than I expected.

Forbidden marriage and reluctant heroine was interesting. I liked that there was no sex scenes. But readers find no relief at the end of the book, because there is not any refreshing closure regarding the question raised throughout the book..

In general, it is a good urban fantasy book if you are searching for slow romance building and have no problem with halfish cliffhangers, this book might be very engaging book for you.

I requested an ARC based on the cover and the blurb and I was not disappointed.

Warning, this is the first book in the series so although it is fast-paced with a lot going on, there is no resolution - there is definitely a To Be Continued ...

Kennedy Rain's family own the Rain Hotel, it is situated in an area of null magic which means that paranormals staying at the hotel are not bound by their normal limitations (eg vampires can walk in the daylight, werewolves aren't forced to change at the full moon etc). Kennedy hates the hotel and the paranormal world, she's spent as much time as possible avoiding the hotel, but her parents have gone on holiday and asked her to look after things.

Things are going badly, the paranormal staff hate her, the hotel is being inspected for the first time in living memory and Kennedy's arch-nemesis from school, Nora, the daughter of the werewolf Alpha has demanded that the Rain Hotel host her wedding, to the vampire leader's second-in-command - no way that's going to end well. Add in the werewolf second-in-command who isn't used to humans resisting his authority, parents who won't answer the phone, a werewolf Princess with entitlement issues and rising hostilities between the paranormals and Kennedy is fighting fire on all sides.

I really enjoyed this, there are enough ambiguities about some of the paranormals to keep you guessing. I would love to read the second book in the series and look forward to it.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Title: A Void of Magic
Author: Sandy Williams
Publication date: July 27th, 2021
Series: Kennedy Rain #1

Summary: They trusted her to keep the peace between the paranorms. They made a mistake.
Kennedy escaped the family business when she turned eighteen. Now, an ill-timed vacation pulls her back to The Rain Hotel, the only known null zone on the planet. It’s a place where vampires can see the sun rise and werewolves can avoid the lure of the full moon. And it would be the perfect place for a paranormal wedding…if the bride wasn’t the local alpha’s daughter and the groom the scion of a vicious master vampire.
With a sexy werewolf determined to sabotage the wedding and dark forces threatening The Rain, Kennedy’s life is thrown out of balance when she’s forced to confront a past she swore to avoid. Ultimately she must choose: will she maintain the stability of the supernatural world…or will she destroy it.

Review: I really like Kennedy, I totally understand why she doesn't like being there. I love how as a human she stands up to the paranormal. I do not understand her parents leaving without a specific date to come back on. I would never agree to something without specific dates. It would just drive me crazy. I am pretty sure I'm in love with Blake. Honestly I love 90% of the characters in this book. My only question is why did the author wait for the last 30 minutes of the book to just absolutely demolish my heart. I'm so ready for Bound by Bloodsong!

Four years ago, Kennedy Rain got out of the family business. She wouldn't have come back now except her parents want to go on a second honeymoon. Again. So now she's back. And there's something going on, secrets that her parents have been keeping. It's well known that The Rain is a "null place". The problems (and pluses) that come with being a paranormal (vampire, werewolf, etc.) are voided in The Rain and there has been a treaty in place for hundreds of years keeping Kennedy's family and The Rain safe. But someone isn't happy with the status quo. Suddenly, the tables have turned and the treaty has been breached.
This book, of course, reminded me of the Innkeeper's Chronicles by Ilona Andrews. The ages are a bit younger but you have the site of an Inn being "neutral territory" and a hotel owner who has (or at least it's hinted out) powers as well.
Like most first books, this book is just the seed of an idea. There's not a lot developed about the hotel and there are a lot of secrets that even the readers don't get to know. It's an interesting start and I suspect the readers of Williams's other books may enjoy this one.

I don't really know what I was thinking going into this story. Kind of liked the idea of a hotel that neutrilized paranorms powers the second they step inside. But oh my god, it was so good. I had a hard time putting it down when it was time to sleep. I honestly finished this so quickly that I was up until the wee hours of the morning, completely hooked - and the ending...I wasn't expecting it to end quite like that. Don't hate it either. I feel I'm officially hooked to Kennedy Rain's story from here on out. I nearly cried when I realized the next isn't out until next year. So good. Ms. Sandy done got me hooked and I'm so happy about.

Ms. Sandy's writing is very well done(this a first for me for her books) which was added perk to this story. The romance is kind the backburner which I actually like. I like that Kennedy doesn't back down from all the alpha males being thrown at her. A lot of the story lines are not resolved but I think that may have been done on purpose to move into the second book. Either way, I'm game for the next book. This is easily a favorite for me.

Thank you to Victory Editing Co-op for accepting me to review this book!

Did I stay up until 2am to finish this book? Yes
Am I tired? Yes
Do I regret my decisions? HELL NO!

I need the second book, like now please?!

I went into this book after a complete contemporary binge so in all honesty I did not have very high hopes however, after literally the first 5pages I was well and truely hooked!

I adored Kennedy's character... She was literally thrown in at the deep end having to deal with her families hotel, the supernatural world and also her frenemies love life, on top of attempting to have her own personal life away from all of the former. She was a bit naive however, she handled her situations with sass, compassion and a bit of creativity.

Nora grew on me... Having being made out to be a total b***h all she was, was a bit desperate for a friend, I think.

Blake... Hot werewolf who is (i think) into Kennedy but sadly can't do much due to her lack of love for anything supernatural.

The cliff hangers and twists in the plot were a bit confusing at times but were immediately explained.
I think there needs to be more romance and that is I think why I gave this 4 stars. Purely based on my romance quota filling needs.

Overall, if youre a fan of paranormal/supernatural (hamans, vamps, wolves & other things) this is the book for you!

Kennedy was born into the Rain family. Rains have run the Rain Hotel for generations. The hotel is a refuge for paranormals. There are rules that govern the hotel, the people that run it and the people that visit it. The rules created a rift between Kennedy and the hotel when she was younger. Now, her attempt to stay away from that life has been thwarted by her parents. And so the stage is set.

Not being much of a YA/NA reader, I was a little worried when I started reading this book since the main character is college aged. However, Kennedy is a mature character that does not exhibit the angst of youth. Not that she doesn’t have any problems – she has a million problems. Between a job, school and covering for her parents while they are on vacation, Kennedy has way more than she can adequately handle at the moment. Setup for disaster. Maybe disasters.

Sandy Williams’ heroines tend to be of very strong mind. Kennedy is no exception. She has developed the mental ability to stand up against the werewolves and vampires around her – despite her youth and being human. I love this about her since typical paranormal fiction tends to depict humans as soooo inferior to the paranormals.

Two of the main paranormal characters are Nora and Blake. Both are thorns in Kennedy’s side, but both have their moments and could possibly become friends. Or more, in the case of Blake. It will probably take more than one book to determine their true natures.

I loved everything about this book – except for the ending. Yep, it’s a cliffhanger. Very few of the plotlines are wrapped up. The only thing resolved is my need to read the next book as soon as possible.

I wasn't exactly sure what I was expecting when I picked up this book, but the premise sounded promising and I love a good vampire and werewolf fic. It starts out a little slow but eventually picks up, and I was a little confused about the setup, but things were explained over time. There are some particulars that weren't exactly explained throughout the story, but since it's the first book in a series, I'm hoping they get covered in the sequels. Otherwise, I enjoyed the book! The concept of a supernatural neutral territory being a hotel with protected caretakers is new to me, and I'm looking forward to reading more about Deagan and Jared in the future!

I hadn’t read this author before, but the blurb on this intrigued me. I started reading, and I was immediately drawn into the story. I admit that at times I really was annoyed with Kennedy because she kept going on about not wanting to be in the inn and not wanting to be in the paranormal world. Other than that, though, I was drawn into the mystery of why everything kept going wrong for her, what’s up with the financial situation, and where Christian fit into everything. At the end, we have a few answers and a lot more questions. This was a well-written, interesting universe, and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s coming up next. Highly recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

Thank you for the e-arc I've received via Netgalley and Victory Editing Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I am quite familar with the work of Sandy Williams as I read almost all of her previous books. Urban/paranormal fantasy is my favourite genre so I read almost everything out there. The Shadow Reader series had been a series I enjoyed quite a lot.

This book had it's ups and downs. It definitely got me interested and I want to know what happens next so I will be purchasing the next book for sure. I liked the concept of the Rains and how the supernatural society is operating in this world. I wasn't a fan of the male leads, but I'll give that a bit more time because character development can happen and I could see the potential in them.
However this book was very frustrating at times. A lot of things happen, yet it felt as if we didn't get ahead in the storyline. It kind of felt like running in circles and getting exhausted from a workout that left me standing in one place.
I liked the characters but the only emotion I felt towards the heroine was pity 80% of the time because of all the misfortune that befalls her. I was missing the badass vibes a bit. But there is so much potential in the worldbuilding and I also really really want to know how things work out and who the villains are going to be. At this point I am clueless and I like that a lot!

Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for providing an arc copy in exchange for an honest review!

This book opens to a girl who is looking after the family hotel, with no interest in being there longer than she has to. The only difference is, the hotel is on the only ground where vampires and werewolfs and other paranorms are free of their curses on neutral grounds. Kennedy Rain does not like the paranorms and makes it a personal policy to not get involved. When an old 'friend' shows up asking to hold a wedding at the hotel, which could very well start a war between vampires and werewolfs, she can't really stay out of it... especially with her parents on vacation.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this book, I liked Kennedy a lot more than I thought I would. She started out kind of whiny and though she was sometimes, she was a very independent girl who didn't take shit from anyone. I look forward to seeing her grow as a character as well as grow her relationship with Blake, Nora, Jared, and other paranorms that are slowly making their way into her life. They touched on what she had done with paranorms when she was younger that made her follow her policy so strongly, but I hope to get more in-depth descriptions of a few. It was a quick read with likable characters and a story line that keeps you interested.

P.S.A. The enemies to lovers "who hurt you" trope is in here too and I literally love it so much.

I loooovve when books are well-written, the world building amazing and the story interesting, ad some magic and sexy time( not romance yet) and you have a fantastic book which name is «  a void of magic »!

I end up reading the book so fast that when it ended i didn’t knew what to do of myself anymore! The first thing that Intrigued me was the beautiful cover, than i read the synopsis and i knew i wanted more of it! Argh, why does it had to end so soon? I’m looking forward the rest of the book!

This was an interesting novel with a good premise. I liked the characters and thought the plot and the mystery was compelling. I read the book within a day (the mark of a good book for me).
My only complaint was that this first novel in the series felt like an extended prologue. We are introduced to characters, a universe background, and a mystery but not really given sufficient information throughout. Then the book ends with no real answers, which was disappointing.
But, there was a preview for the next novel which continues straight from the end of this one and seems just as exciting. So I hope that in novel two the story and mystery will continue to be fleshed out with more revealed. I look forward to reading it.

Excuse me I’m supposed to wait a year for book 2?! I need to know what happens right now! Kennedy Rain is in charge of the Rain hotel. The hotel sits on a void where no magic exists. So vampires come here to get reprieve from the sun and werewolves come to get free of the moon sickness. Kennedy is supposed to honor the treaty and make sure the paranorm world remains a mystery to the humans. Werewolves, vampires, elementals, and other paranorms. I liked the idea of a hotel on a void. This was a quick read. The mystery aspect of it kept me wanting to know what was going on. I just wanted more. Really wanting to know what kind of paranorm Christian is. I feel like this progressed well even with little romance. I enjoyed the tension but I have high hopes for the next one. My Rating: 3.5 stars

Kennedy Rain is the heir to her family's hotel "The Rain Hotel". The grounds of the hotel are the only magical void on Earth, meaning the only place where "paranorms" can come to for a moment of peace and healing, since they lose their abilities temporarily while being in this null zone. Our MC has been away and avoiding the hotel but is forced back because her parents are on vacation. She doesn't want to have anything to do with the paranormal world but gets pulled in anyway and thrust back into the mess and the problems around it.

I wanted an arc for this book because the premise sounded interesting. The "null zone" isn't something I've read about in fantasy books before and it intrigued me.

I really enjoyed Kennedy as a main character, i loved her determination to not let herself get pushed around and bullied by the vampires or the werewolves. She was getting pulled into everyone's business and had to deal with so much of the hotel's that I felt sorry for her.

There technically wasn't any romance in this but possible love interests are definitely hinted at and something is already developing. Kennedy and Blake's interactions were so enjoyable and entertaining. Definitely looking forward to seeing their romance (hopefully) develop in the next book.

This book is a very quick and easy read. The writing was good enough and the story is fast paced. Some of the events of the story were definitely predictable but that didn't really bother me. Sadly at around the middle of the story I felt like the plot wasn't moving forward but that got remedied towards to end.

This wasn't a masterpiece but I'm glad to have read it. It kept me entertained and I'm interest in the rest of the series!!

First I want to thank Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for approving me for an ARC via NetGalley!

a void of magic is the first book by Sandy Williams that I read and I was absolutely not disappointed. All the necessary elements for a good first book are gathered in this book: action, paranormal creatures, a strong main character who does not let anyone walked over her, interesting secondary characters, a sexy and dominant love interest.
We discover the story of Kennedy Rain, whose parents are the owners of a unique hotel in the world because the land on which it is built is an area where the powers of the supernaturals are annulled. It is therefore a neutral zone where vampires and werewolves losing control are sent to resource themselves. Kennedy replaces her parents who went on vacation and trouble over trouble falls on her. I have found in this book a bit of a mercy Thompson atmosphere, where trouble falls on the protagonist without her asking for anything and will make that she will develop relationships with several people who seek to protect her from all this.

I am looking forward to reading the next book and seeing how the story will evolve, especially the romance because I have a little (biiig) crush on a certain Blake.
I really recommend this book for any urban fantasy fan looking for a story that changes a bit of the traditional story that we find more and more now.

Loved the book amazing characters initially I thought it would be a run of the mill YA fantasy romance but it wasn't with little hint of romance and a good dashing of mystery and a bit of comedy you get a very good book highly recommend it

This is for a NetGalley ARC

**I received an advanced digital copy of "A Void of Magic" thanks to NetGalley. This review is my own opinion.**

I have been on a romance kick in regards to my reading. This book reminded me that romance is not absolutely necessary to drive a story and to make it interesting.
"A Void of Magic" is a paranormal, new adult book with werewolves, vampires, elementals, witches, and other "paranorms".
Kennedy Rain is our main character in this story. Her human family has ran a hotel for paranorms for generations. This is a place where werewolves can recover from their moonsickness and vampires can live a week in the light. The hotel and its property is the only place where magic is voided. (Thus the title! Love it!) With the help of a treaty, the hotel is to run without any mishaps or trouble from the special guests.
Kennedy's parents go on vacation and she has to take care of the hotel. She is not very excited because she has spent the last five years trying to avoid that life. But of course, during her parent's absence, all hell breaks loose.

Here are some things that I loved from this book:
<3 Kennedy is spunky and doesn't back down from the paranorms who constantly try to get her to submit.
<3 There is some sexual tension in the book, but however, romance is not the main focus. I do believe that it will unfold more in the next book.
<3 I loved the hotel. As I was reading, I kept getting flashbacks to the hotel in the tv show "Angel' that he worked in.

Some additional thoughts:
*The story could have used a little more world building in the beginning. I was a little lost at first, but it did get better.
*There are two characters that have not identified their...species...to Kennedy. It is going to drive me crazy! I need to know what they are.
*A love triangle may possibly be brewing. Hm.....

This was a fun and original story. I can't wait to continue the series. Waiting for you Sandy Williams! :)
