I'd surprisingly never read anything by Jami Attenberg previously. Reading her memoir sent me off in search of her fiction books. This book reads like I think: In disjointed streams of consciousness. I felt this was an open, honest, and heartfelt book of essays. I believe if you were already a fan, this will give you insight to the author, and if you have just learned of Ms. Attenberg, you will enjoy her fiction writing even more. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the eARC!

I have been a fan of Jami Attenberg's writing for many years. I looked forward to reading her personal memoir. It is written in a disjointed fashion as has, apparently, been her life. In this book, Attenberg reaches back into her earliest memories of feeling like she is destined to be a writer, and presents us with so many clear examples gleaned from her life of travel, even as she faced rejection after rejection.

Ms. Attenberg has traveled extensively all over the world to promote her books, and in doing so has had most unusual adventures. In detailing them, she eventually comes around to processing them as part of her learning and growing experience, particularly as a writer.

In the beginning of the book, she expresses admiration for Patti Smith's "Just Kids", which led me to read that book again. This is Jami's "Just Kids", an exploration of her past experiences and intuitive feeling of how they might lead to her future.

A worthy read, with philosophical questions any artist poses to oneself throughout.

Many thanks to NetGalley for the eARC!
