I was disappointed in this work. I had been expecting something different, I suppose, perhaps with more emotional depth. The plot felt much too fast and there was an over reliance on dialogue that left the story feeling shallow

I have to be honest: I don't know what on earth was going on in this book. I appreciated the glimpse into Obijwe culture, but what was going ON character and also world-building-wise. There seemed to be nearly no in between Benny's consistent 'I do what I want' attitude and then his COMPLETE turn around in the last fifteen pages because??? He finally realised??? His actions had consequences and could hurt people, which is exactly what everyone had been telling him and he in fact realised right from the first page. Also, magic is real? But also, maybe it's just mystic Native powers? But also, maybe it's all just psychological talk therapy being carried out by a TWELVE YEAR OLD. And while we're on the subject! Twelve year olds are CHILDREN and should NOT be kissing and it definitely should not be sanctioned by the adults in their lives!
