Thank you Macmillan Audio and Minotaur Books for the gifted book!

This book was a JOURNEY. The first 3/4 I was so bored and kept wanting to DNF but I figured it had to redeem itself. Then the last bit of the book I was super invested in. Then the epilogue....I have read the epilogue no less than 5 times and still don't fully get it. I even sought out spoilers on the internet and no one has a good answer. This whole book could have been solved with people actually having conversations and not letting themselves be manipulated into going against their gut. It was pretty exhausting...

Heavy trigger warnings for infidelity.

Thanks so much to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for my copy of The Guilt Trip by Sandie Jones Narrated by Clare Corbett in exchange for an honest review. It published August 3, 2021.
This reminded me a lot of The Guest List. If that is something you enjoy, along with spouse and friend drama, you’ll enjoy this book.

Will and Allie are getting married in a fantastic destination wedding trip on an island. Allie had worked for Will's brother, Jack, who had introduced them. Jack is married to Rachel and they have one son. Jack and Rachel's best friends, Paige and Noah, are also going although they aren't that close to the bride and groom.
It seems like it would be a marvelous trip but there are undercurrents everywhere. Jack and Allie seem to have tension between them for some reason. Rachel notices that and chalks it up to Jack's recent distance from them all. She knows he is working something out and is giving him space to do so. While Paige is Rachel's best friend, she has known Noah longer and the two of them had been best friends for quite a while. Perhaps because of this, Jack and Noah have never been close and seem at times to be hostile to each other.

Once on the island, things are still strange. Rachel starts to believe that Jack is having an affair with Allie. He had spread a rumor about Allie and another man at work but what if that was just camouflage? Then there is Noah. He has decided now is the time to tell Rachel he still loves her and that he believes Rachel and Jack's son is actually his, an idea that could possibly be true. Paige is ready to go for Allie on any grounds as they are oil and water. Will this marriage ever take place?

Sandie Jones has written a twisty tale that leaves the reader changing their viewpoint over and over again. Each person seems to have secrets and as these are slowly revealed, the relationships change also. Some are lying but how to determine the truth? I listened to this novel and the narrator was perfect. This book is recommended for psychological thriller readers.

I really enjoyed this book. There were so many twists and turns, I couldn't put it down for long. I loved the narrator doing different voices for the characters. It really made me feel more committed to the story. One complaint was that it was a little hard to keep track of so many characters and who was married to who. The end was also a bit confusing as to who was saying the epilogue. I assume Noah, but can't be sure.

This book began with a group of friends at the airport getting ready to leave for a wedding. The title for this book is so appropriate. Things happen throughout the course of the book and guilt trips occur. Was there an affair among the group? Paternity comes into question for the child of one couple. So many things happen in this book. Shocking ending. Kept me on the edge of my seat especially at the ending. Great read!

First off, thank you to netgalley and St.Martin’s press for this audio ARC.

Ok. So we all love a fabulous party off the coast of somewhere exotic and amazing. Four friends are heading to Portugal for a wedding and a whole bunch of drama ensues. Betrayal, deceptive Ed’s and first impressions are not what they seem.

This was a 3 star for me as I didn’t quite feel the thriller in it but more drama. Throw in some completely oblivious and unlikeable characters, along with some dragging pace - it just hindered my liking of this book.

I got to say, the narration of the book I did enjoy. That is what kept me going and trying to see where are all the characters end up. I will be checking out other novels by Sadie.

The Guilt Trip was okay for me. I am usually not a fan of Sandie Jones but I believe this book was better than previous books I have read by the same author. I would give it a fair rating of 3 stars but there are just some authors and books out there that aren't for everyone. I will say, I did enjoy the narrator of this book. My review is not based on the narrator. I am just not a fan of Sandie Jones writing and the Climax of the book just did not wow me enough to rate it higher.

What a fun book! I love twists and turns that I never see coming. Like watching a train wreck, I couldn’t stop reading this one. Secrets and assuming and secret loves is what this book is all about. A fun holiday to Portugal, three couples go to celebrate a wedding. Seems innocent enough. No way! Read this roller coaster of ride.

I was not anticipating enjoying this as much as i did. i flew through it in a day. the author is hit or miss and in terms of keeping us all flipping the pages she did an A+ job! Narrator was fun as well

What a twisty book! I really like how the six main characters were connected in a complex web of real and perceived relationships. I also enjoyed how this book focused so much on the differences between perception and reality and how our friends can influence how we see other people. It was so much more than a thriller; it really dived into the relationships between people. I guessed part of the twist but it didn’t ruin the enjoyment of the book at all for me. I really enjoyed the different voices the narrator used in the audiobook and found that it helped to bring the characters to life. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

I really struggled to get into this book. A group of couple friends travel together to attend a destination wedding. It seems there isn’t much honesty amongst these friends. I found it to be. Wry slow paced however the ending picked up and I did finish the book.

Thank you to NETGALLY and Macmillan Audio for a chance to listen and review this book

Three couples go to Portugal for a destination wedding. They all thought they new each other, but the secrets and lies will confirm that’s not true.

I had to start this audiobook twice because the lack of interest in the beginning. I finally pushed through and finished it. It was a bit over dramatic. I had high hopes, but didn’t love it.

Thanks to NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for this ARC.

" The Guilt Trip" is a story of three couples at a destination wedding in Portugal. It is filled with too much drama. I found the main characters unlikeable and the story was difficult to follow because the character development was not great. I had a hard time keep track of who was who and this book just didn't do it for me.
There were several times I almost stopped reading but I hate not finishing books. The last 10% of the book was the best but that is not enough to make it worth it.

This is a destination wedding with soap opera vibes. The audiobook was very well narrated. This is a drama filled story that also includes a lot of who slept with whom elements mixed with secrets, lies, and alcohol. I did enjoy reading the book and the ending was a much needed bit of thriller excitement. The rest of the story seemed to be more like friend drama than a thriller. I will, however, give this authors work another try.

Thanks to NetGalley for the audio ARC. The above opinions are my own.

I don’t think I’ve ever hated a main character as much as I hated Rachel. WOW. I found myself screaming at Rachel way more than necessary. I was heavily invested in the beginning. Sandie has a lot of foreboding incorporated into her writing. Along the middle I just got really frustrated with the main character. Then the end just went really fast. I’m actually still confused on the ending!! This was more of a domestic drama/thriller. A lot of the characters were unhappily married with their fare share of drama! The audio was beautifully narrated - so many character voices done in perfect harmony. I’m usually not a fan of UK accents for audiobooks but loved this one! I’ll continue to read Sandie Jones future work.

Three couples travel to a destination wedding. The bride, Ali, rubs each of the other characters the wrong way for different reasons. As speculations about Ali's character and stories of her behavior are divulged it is difficult to like Ali or to conflate Ali (as presented by the author) to the way that the other characters portray her.

This book is full of deceit, denial, treachery, star-crossed love, self-absorption, body image issues, and a shocking ending. This was a fast paced audiobook. I definitely could not stop listening. It definitely should be added to your tbr list.

Three couples have traveled to the coast of Portugal for a destination wedding. Rachel and Jack and Paige and Noah are the old married couples. Will and Ali are the bride and groom. Ali is the new one of the group, the others have a history that goes back decades. Rachel and Noah have an even longer history. Things are rocky before they even leave the airport, but they are committed to making sure that Will has a great wedding weekend. But then Rachel suspects that her husband, Jack, is having an affair with the bride, Ali. It becomes all Rachel can focus on, and she is convinced that Ali is a truly horrible human being. When the wedding arrives, it becomes clear that not everything is as it appears. Will the five friends be able to deal with the truths once they are revealed?

I started and stopped The Guilt Trip a few times. I couldn't get into it at first, but I knew that Sandie Jones wouldn't let me down if I could just stick with it. At first, I really liked Rachel and Paige, but then I thought that Rachel was being paranoid. I didn't really think that Ali was a home-wrecker, but instead a flighty young woman. I was also very intrigued by the past that Rachel and Noah shared. I knew that there was going to be more to that story. CLICK HERE FOR SPOILERS Things rushed to an explosive conclusion that left me spinning.

Bottom Line - I knew that Sandie Jones wouldn't disappoint me and I was right. The Guilt Trip was one heck of a ride!
